Our defense had the best roster it had since Pelini. We would have won 8 with a different DC last year. Look back at their stats alone
There are 4 or 5 really good players on D, the rest shouldn't be starting at NU.

How's Dawson's unit performing? Complete trash.
Look at the way Chin was playing them. It made ZERO sense. I'm looking forward to seeing them at least line up in something resembling a logical scheme. I've heard two former Blackshirts who played in the NFL say that there was no way what Chin was asking the defense to do had any chance of working. They were saying that before the most recent debacles.

Chins was fired this morning. I think Mickey is doing what he should. I like it so far. Go Mickey Go!

I agree that especially our D line talent is down but damn, we can do better with these guys than what Chin did. He's an awful DC. I just bit my lip last year when people were anointing him last fall.

Improper use of race card. “Race card” is when someone wants to use their race to gain leverage. More appropriate complaint on your end would be “potentially false accusation of racist acts”…but then again there was realization change was needed to it was not really a false accusation
Nice try

It probably won't make much of a tangible difference this year but I don't care. I was so sick of seeing base defense in every situation, perhaps Busch will "try" faster players on receivers instead of relying on slow linebackers 100% of the time.

Anybody catch Urban’s comment that Nebraska wasn’t even trying to disguise its defense. Then Urban called the next OU play based on the NE defense he saw. And surprise, he was right and the play went for 10 yards.

This was a big mistake in my opinion.

It also shows me what the mob mentality is capable of, even when it's not in your best interest.

There is a whole lot of politics and stupidity going on with this move.

Dumb Dumb Dumb.

Think the mistake would have been firing him last Sunday. Now they get the bye week to get some new concepts inserted, maybe get some different dudes in the game.

This would take too long to type out.. I'll try the short version, but most people's comments here already tell me they don't understand.

Chins defense has played well as a unit the past couple of years, and with upperclassmen on the roster, who all left last year. You have a roster full of young guys.

He plays the scheme Frost wanted, which is an attacking defense, but this year, he played more zone coverage the first 3 games because why? we didn't know why, but we got ate up on the run game.. Chins knew something.

MJ tells him to run Man coverage against OU, if we get beat deep, we get beat, but at least we can stop the run game. The kids had 4 days to prepare for this change, the first half we tried it, and got boat raced.

The second half, we went back to playing zone coverage, but the game was already over at that point.

So 'trying something different' just created a worse situation, but I don't fault them for trying.

Now you have fired the guy that was holding it together on a thread, the defense is going to completely fall apart. I will be surprised if we win a single game from here on out, and it won't even be close anymore.

Basically, you made the guy make the change he was worried about, and it got worse, he goes back to what he thought was the best way they could play it, and the points stop accumulating, and then you fire him for making the change you forced him to make in the first place.

If you want to fault him for recruiting, then maybe I can be on board with that, but that guy had demonstrated his units played well together and improved, all while for years Frosts offense sucked, and just look at the comments here blaming Chins for the whole problem.. the stupidity of the comments in this thread blow me away.

I don't think Busch is an upgrade. Would have been better off just keeping Chinander and I've been as critical of him as anybody.

Following the Cornhuskers' blowout loss, Fox Sports radio host Colin Cowherd posted a message on Twitter specifically for Nebraska fans.

Cowherd tweeted, "Nebraska fans — just keep blaming the coaches."

Obviously, this was Cowherd's way of taking a jab at the fans who thought all of Nebraska's problems would be solved once Frost got fired.

Cow herd is a pacific coast dbag. Ratings will continue to fall now that joy and her tig ole bitties have left the show.

I disagree.. that was against a good OU team. I fear now we will get boat raced by everyone left on the schedule and there will be mass transfers out. If MJ made this decision, it was a poor one, because he allowed a mob mentality to happen and those players on D, trust me, they are done with this.

Maybe not. They aren't stupid and no doubt very prideful. Getting chewed up by OU is one thing, but by giving up over 600 to GASO they HAVE to know something isn't right and probably want it fixed more than we do. You can like a teacher, boss, coach, etc. and still understand he is incompetent and has to be replaced, even when you are 19 years old.

I agree with this. The players aren’t dumb. They know the D wasn’t working under Chins. Young players vs what we had last year doesn’t matter. The tackling techniques are horrible. That’s if they can even get to the ball carrier, which most of the time they can’t. They can’t even line up properly. That’s some very basic stuff they can’t do. They know they weren’t getting the best coaching here.

I respectfully disagree. Sure OU is a good team. But GS put up over 600 yards. Didn't they just get dropped this week? MJ is coaching for his future as head coach. And the last 2 weeks have been a debacle on defense. His scheme is absolutely killing this defense with lack of talent which is on Chinander as well. And I'm afraid he mailed it in when Frost was fired.

6 yr seniors masked alot of Chinander short comings. We are seeing it present time. Jmo

That’s what I’m saying. Joseph’s hands were tied. There would have been a deafening outcry if he was retained.

Chins felt playing zone would give them the best chance, and the first 3 games were at least close.

We found out why he didn't want to play man against OU, and got ripped up.

MJ is coaching for his future, prob should keep the guy that had this group at least keeping things close.

Now he's got someone with no defense ability calling the defense.. not smart.

I agree about the depth & recruiting, but firing him only made MJ job harder in my opinion. D is going to get worse now.

fair argument, but at least you had a d coordinator and a unit that played together.. now you have an old guy with a 12 pack blowing a whistle and yelling something unintelligible.. seems like a downgrade.. or bad joke to be honest. it just makes Mickeys job even harder in my opinion..

It is a move to appease a mob alone.

Are they going to get another defensive coordinator to jump onto this sinking ship? No. Are we going to win more games by doing this? No.

Does it make the mob feel better? Yes.

I agree.

It’s not that he is doing well this season. He isn’t. It is that no other defensive coordinator is going to throw themselves into this dumpster fire. It is only September!

Joseph's only objective is to win games. His future here depends on winning games, not appeasing the "mob."
