You would have to see How KU season ending played out, he wins 7 or more you could consider him as a plan b guy.
If Leipold wins 7 games at KU this year he should be #1 on the list....with a bullet. And I'm a KU fan (and would not be happy). :)

Don't you just love when you get posters who chime in negatively about a post but never add anything about what they would like. Just give us name or names you would like to see as the next head coach and let's see how many agree or disagree it's really not that hard or maybe it is for some.

There are many on these lists who may not want the Nebraska job and there are some that would treasure it. It's now up to Alberts and the search committee to find someone to turn this thing around and it can be turned around. When we try and play the guessing game as to who the next HC will be it's all done in good fun, none of us really know who Alberts and the committee will favor, we just hope and pray it's a home run finally.

None of those dudes do it for me.

Nebraska needs a guy who can recruit period. Stockpiling a bunch of midwest dudes like everyone else in this piss poor division isn't winning anything important. It is like winning the smartest Iowegian contest or best Asian driver, or tallest little person. All of the dudes on this list will try and be just like the rest of the Big Ten West, no thanks. That is a recipe for 6-6 to 8-4 football, and a 4 way tie for 1st in the division and a coin flip to get an *** whoopin by Ohio St, Michigan or Penn St.

1 - Recruiter
2- Recruiter
3 - Recruiter
4 -Control the LOS on both sides
5- Balanced offense where the RB is the main ball carrier
6- Attacking defense

Almost all of the guys on the lists complied by all the websites can do the last 3. We need to be the best at identifying and bringing in the best talent available, that is what sets you apart from the Iowa and Wisconsin's of this division.
Doeren would be ok with me. I’m waiting to see what Mickey does over the next 6 weeks though

If you believe that no one who has/ or is already winning at the power 5 level that most expect is coming

that leaves 2 broad categories

1. Power 5 coaching experience that is moderately successful with the hopes that they go from good to great at NU

2. No power 5 head coach experience - thus they really have no coaching record to base an opinion - coordinator-assistant- lower level head coach

both are a roll of the dice

I’m sure you’re a nice person but that list is absolutely atrocious and husker fans would riot in the streets with any of them. Why in the hell Leipold? Because he is 2-0 this year? Something he did last year? Remember we screwed this up with the last two hires. We need a proven guy who has built a program at the highest level. I hope you are kidding.

If it were up to me, I would start with Meyer and make him tell me no. Then go from there. Depending on what Joseph does for the rest of the season, and Meyer said no, he would be on my short list. With Joseph, if I were the AD, I would make sure that he hires experienced OC/ DC, which would allow him to just motivate players, oversee the program. He knows offense, and he knows defensive tendencies, which would allow him to do what he needs to do as a HC.

There are a ton of guys out there, I don't know who would have interest and who wouldn't. I listed the qualities I would want in the head coach, and recruiting is the most important thing on that list.

This is a post where the fans chime in as to who they would like to see as the next head coach, of course not everyone will agree nor should they. With that being said how hard is it to make a list of choices to be the next HC at Nebraska.

If you want to be honest about it just say I have no idea and no favorites and I'll leave it to Alberts and the committee, it's not that hard really. What I don't care for is someone who looks at a list and scrutinizes it but adds no list of their own.

Thank you for your input I agree starting with Meyer. Is it possible we could entice a coach like Sam Pittman from Arkansas if we offer enough in both cash and options?

My feeling exactly.. But I do agree with Tuco, let Meyers be the first one saying No..

Fickell, Kiffen and a few others all sound good but the bottom like is who are the one’s most interested in being Nebraska new Head Coach..

Exactly, Tuco. IMO opinion, coaches like Klieman and Campbell is settling on a likely 7-8 win season, 3rd in the Big West and a minor bowl.

Give Urban the chance to say yes or no. After that, I think there are different tiers of coaches, none in the same league as Meyer.

Once he rules himself out, then Trev needs to define the different type tier level of coach and be prepared to pony up the dough.

The question is, what type of coach is NU looking for? The steady, gonna take 3-4 years to rebuild the program? No. We need a coach that comes in and overhauls the program in 1 or 2 years.

NU's had enough screwing around with coaches who think they are going to methodically build a winning program.

Whatever methods Meyer has used in the last 25-30 years has proven to be highly effective from Bowling Green to Utah to Florida to Ohio State. Nebraska would just be another example.

K. I'll take a swig.

4,5 &6 are about philosophy and getting the right assistant coaches and coordinators to get the job done.

1-3 is also about bringing in the right assistants who can get the job done on the road.

HC is the ceo and deal closer due to limitations.

If you can't bring in the recruits and close the deal, then you have a problem. Transfer portal is a good thing but we shouldn't be using it like we did year 5 of Frost era. That means you failed as an evaluator, recruiter and/developer.

In a nutshell, I agree with you 💯 👍 👌

I agree recruiting is important, but that is only part of the story. SF did just fine recruiting here pre-covid. He had multiple top 20ish classes. His problem is he couldn’t keep them, manage them, motivate them or coach them. How many 4-5 star recruits did he bring in and how many successfully made it?

Which of the guys on any of these list will tick all those boxes? Urban? Maybe so, but you know as well as I do he will just leave 1-2 years in.

I believe that if Mickey beats OU or someone else big and his team puts in some real efforts and you can see measurable differences in technique and approach — this search will be SHORT and over soon and he will get the job. Not that I am advocating one way or another. That is simply the reality of Lincoln.

Don’t want Meyer but how could a person logically be upset if Trev hired him. Mickey HC, Vance DC and retain Whipple.

the other option for me is Doeren and yes I would want Beck to come with him. We would be in a MUCH better place if we had promoted Beck instead of hiring Riley. Beck would have kept the pipeline open to Texas. Doeren fits at NU

No HC or Coordinator experience when Arkansas hired him.
He just coached some of the best Offensive lines in college football at Georgia and has done nothing but win as a HC at Arkansas. We've had nothing but weak offensive lines at Nebraska for years, it's time we get the culture back at this vital position. I like Pittman but I don't even know if he will be on Trev's radar, but I hope he is.

As a side note I'm all for MJ getting a shot at HC but he must earn it in the next 9 games. I'm not saying he needs to win all nine but he must win a majority and his team must show up in the losses.

Could be, but 61 is not really that old in todays life cycles, I'm 70 and very active but I wish I were 61 again. I put Pittman up as a coach I would love to have not as a coach Alberts would even consider but I wish he would. Yes his team does have swag and they push teams hard and are relentless.

The only one capable of getting NU to that level is Meyer based on his history and resume.

The next tier is Ruhle and Aranda, and they seem capable in 2 years to elevate this program to 9-3 or 10-2 but have not yet proven they can take a team into that elite level.

After those 3, anyone else is a crapshoot.

For all we know, THE GUY could be Mickey. He's unproven for sure. But he has enough contacts throughout football to bring in the coaching/recruiting talent that can move NU into top 10 status in a year or so.

He may be another Charlie Strong or Herm Edwards and have a limited top side. I think Trev owes it to the program to give MIckey every tool available to see if Mickey has that "it" factor. It would be a lot disruptive to the overall program.

If Trev allows Mickey to fill out his staff with top staff, say a $ 2 Million a year DC, and topflight DL and OL coach can do wonders in a year or so. With Mickey's recruiting chops, opening up the NIL can do wonders for elevating the talent level to NU.

Although I think the transfer portal is a stopgap measure, a half dozen of the right type kids can move NU up the ladder, but we all know NU has to recruit the right type of players, develop them and keep them in the fold for at least 2-3 years, otherwise its just a repeat year after year of filling in the gaps.

Yes, recruiting does also fall on the assistants as well, but I just believe that the head coach sets the tone when it comes to recruiting. Getting top players is a top down process.

Urban Meyer wouldn't recruit to Iowa the way Ferentz does. The disadvantages Iowa has in recruiting would be the same for Meyer as they are for Ferentz but there is no doubt in my mind that Meyer would have a QB in place in year one that would make Petras look like a high school JV player.

The more and more I think about it, the Clemson model may work for us. Mickey is an elite recruiter and motivator and that is what the head man needs to be. CFB is all about recruiting. Listen to Kirby, Nick, Day etc. They talk about players. From there, just get some top flight coordinators to match and here we go. Those guys also need to be recruiters, but most top flight coordinators are.

Time will tell, but if Mickey were to get us bowl eligible, I'd say give him the job and get him a Top Tier D Coordinator. The assistants I would replace are Chins, Dawson, Ruud and potentially Raiola. Jury still could be out on Raiola.

Given the overall talent level, I've seen improvement in the OL under Raiola.

The OL looks slightly different had Cam returned and Nouili's "thing" not depleted 40% of his likely starting unit.

I'm giving him some leeway, not that it matters. Would I rather have Callahan or even a recently fired NFL OL coach, of course.

Along with Mickey he still gets 9 more games to show noticeable improvement.

I do like the fact that Whipple or Frost have made play call adjustments with the TE's and the TE's in motion to try to help the OL.

Even pulling Hixson back from C to help Benhart is a nice adjustment.

I expected a huge drop off from Cam, and obviously they can't ask Hixson to perform at that level or handle some of the assignments as well as Cam, but I think Hixson is doing a real nice job.

Other than a snap or two, NU has not been having issues with the snap from the QB's toes to his nose. Kudos to Hixson.

I like what I seen from Lutovsky, and I think even Bando is playing pretty well.

Keeping Benhart from blocking in space is important unless of course the pass pro calls for a retreat.

When Benhart blocks down in close contact, he's not bad.
