You gotta look at XII and ACC head coaches. Maybe you could snag a guy from a smaller SEC school. But any B1G or SEC school has just as much ammo as we do.

XII
Matt Campbell
Lance Leipold
Chris Kliemann
Mike Gundy (probably not realistic)
Dave Aranda (probably not realistic)

ACC
Pat Narduzzi
Dave Doeren
Dave Clawson

Others
Hugh Freeze
Luke Fickell (probably not realistic)
Matt Rhule if fired before December 1
Gus Malzahn
Group of 5 head coaches.
Im confused by all the Matt Campbell blathering. It took the worst Iowa offense in years to allow Campbell to eek out a win. Relatively good ISU teams have been routinely beaten by Iowa under Campbell. That matchup with a Big 10 team speaks volumes to me.
Nebraska cannot afford to screw around anymore. The stakes are too high. This needs to be a home run hire with someone proven to be able to win big games and recruit at a high level.

I'm not suggesting Matt Campbell. Personally I think Dave Doeren Dave Aranda or Matt Rhule would be better picks. Doeren feels like he'd be someone we could get more so than the others.

How can you know LL or any of these guys cant recruit top notch to a top notch school? Superficial reasons? Because Im pretty sure nick saban would not have looked attractive before he won titles after his mich state career to a lot of people based on the same false assumptions. A grumpy old dude who ran the football and never won anything. Turns out he can recruit with the right resorces and after doing some winning with the talent he had..
Or ryan day…barely any college expericence with recruiting, turns out recruiting is working pretty well.
Not every white dude in the midwest is kirk ferentz. Not every program is iowa. We have no reason to believe LL cant recruit to nebraska, heck he must have recruited pretty good to WW to get kids to play down to D3, unless you expected him to pull 5 star recruits there. Kids are kids, regardless of their ranking.
I bet most of these coaches could do a lot more with the talent we’re getting which is a start, which will lead to more.
Having said that Im not opposed to an urban meyer or mikey joseph if he earns it. Make urban say no.

Because they cannot recruit top notch players now. None of these guys are charismatic, dynamic or even remotely interesting to 17 year old high school players.

Have you ever watched a DIII football game? It is literally below good high school football, at least here in Texas. I am not sure "LL" got kids to play down at DIII, most of those players had no, or few, other options. They could either play DIII football and pay for the privilege to do so, or go somewhere else and do the same thing.

Are you salty I dont wanna type his name out? 🤣

He cant recruit because he didnt pull five stars in his first year at perennial dumpster fire 2 win KANSAS? He must be charasmatic enough to get kids to buy into what he’s selling within the program.
Saban is not remotely interesting to 17 year old dudes either, except for play for me and you’ll win. He won with guys he inhereted first, just like many guys on that list. Youve never been recruited by these guys, so I dont know where you’re getting this from.
Again, not every white dude in the midwest is kirk ferentz.

For the record I dont think trev should go hire him now, but he absolutely deserves to be on the list. If he fizzles and wins 3 or 4 then not an option, but if kansas goes and starts winning imo he deserves a hard look.

You just don't get it. We're never going to be at the top of the recruiting rankings based on charisma or style. How do you think we're going to go into the top talent regions of the country and out recruit the local teams? We need a unique identity and the ability to recruit to it within the 500 miles. Missouri, Colorado, Texas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota with an emphasis on a few hot spots.

I disagree. I dont think its realistic to think we’ll be number 1 all the time but look how high we have been with garbage product and lazy recruiting. Bring in a winner and those classes get even better. Nebraska is still a national brand.

I think you underestimate the pull Saban has with 17 year olds. When he took over LSU they were coming off a 3-8 season and within 2 years, they were a top 10 team and within 5 years they won a national title. He didn't do that without recruiting top players.

Your guy LL has exactly the same number of games that Mickey Joseph does to make an impression. So far he has shown that he can win 4 games at KU, the MAC East title once, and multiple DIII titles. Forgive me if I don't think he has shown anything to prove he would be successful at Nebraska.

If we have top 20 classes, that's about the best we can expect. We won't out-recruit Ohio state, michigan, Penn state, alabama, georgia, Notre dame, USC, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Miami, Michigan State, UCLA, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Tennessee.

I get it just fine. You are one of the folks that want to be the tallest little person, the best Asian driver or the smartest Iowegian. You want to use the location as an excuse as to why you can't attract top talent to Lincoln.

If Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer or Nick Saban were the coach at Nebraska, there would be people knocking down the door to get into the recruiting class. That is charisma and style and success. That is not letting an obstacle get in the way of the end goal. You, and people who think like you, are simply looking for an excuse as to why Nebraska can't succeed on the recruiting trail. If you give these kids a reason to come to Lincoln, they will come. Playing 3 yards and a cloud of dust with a bunch of farm kids, may win you 8 games per year, but it isn't even coming close to competing for national titles. Look at Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota etc as examples.

My point about saban is that you would have said the same thing about him before what you just referenced, based on his career before LSU, and you would have been incredibly wrong.

”the mac east title once” without any context at all there….

And as I said, I am not saying he should be hired now, but that he deserves to be a candidate because of his ability to flip programs and should be a serious contender should kansas keep improving. As I said, if they win 3 or 4 nevermind. That could happen, but anybody who says KU hasnt improved under him thus far is wrong, and he’s been there longer than joseph.

Who cares about candidates? As far as I am concerned there can be 300 candidates. I want to know and discuss who can actually be the next coach, period. I am not concerned with talking about who might be a guy, who could maybe be the guy, at some point in the future.

Louisiana is the most talent rich state in the Union. Assuming your coach is semi-competent, the best kids on the state want to play for the home team. I believe more NFL players come from Louisiana than any other state too.

The original argument is that Lance Leopold can't recruit high enough. There' no evidence of that. He's coached at buffalo and now Kansas. He turned Buffalo around and he's making Kansas into a winner. That is no easy feat. He's a proven program builder, so get him all the help he needs to recruit.

Mickey Joseph went head to head with LSU for players and won. Because he can sell what Nebraska has to offer and he can build relationships with these kids. He wasn't bitching and moaning about what he doesn't have. He sold what he does have.

Superficial? It is based on recruiting rankings. The coach at Kansas is almost 60 and spent 15 years winning DIII titles. He wasn't concerned with recruiting the top players in the country. When he was at Buffalo, he wasn't either and now at Kansas he is trying to get them to relevancy and he still isn't in on the top players. That isn't superficial, that is fact!

Seems like you're making the argument that they had talent but didn't coach it up worth a damn. Everyone knows one of the secrets to Osborne's success was continuity of staff. If you get a guy like Urban Meyer, which you won't because he's not even remotely interested, you're going to keep him for 3 years and then be in flux again. I want the guy we can keep for 10 years because he treats it like a destination job.

If it was just about winning then Wisconsin would have top 15 classes every year. They don't because their coach is lump of coal and very few kids are drawn to play for a team the wants to run the ball 100 times a game. But it wins 9 games per year so.....

None of those dudes do it for me.

Nebraska needs a guy who can recruit period. Stockpiling a bunch of midwest dudes like everyone else in this piss poor division isn't winning anything important. It is like winning the smartest Iowegian contest or best Asian driver, or tallest little person. All of the dudes on this list will try and be just like the rest of the Big Ten West, no thanks. That is a recipe for 6-6 to 8-4 football, and a 4 way tie for 1st in the division and a coin flip to get an *** whoopin by Ohio St, Michigan or Penn St.

1 - Recruiter
2- Recruiter
3 - Recruiter
4 -Control the LOS on both sides
5- Balanced offense where the RB is the main ball carrier
6- Attacking defense

Almost all of the guys on the lists complied by all the websites can do the last 3. We need to be the best at identifying and bringing in the best talent available, that is what sets you apart from the Iowa and Wisconsin's of this division.

Champions have top 5 classes year in and year out. Without that, a team has zero chance. We will not pull top 5 classes. Completely unrealistic. Our immediate goal is to win 9-10 games a year. Thinking about BCS is just laughable.

In the 1970's and 1990's. No one running what Osborne ran is winning titles anymore. Unless winning the Big Ten west is the ultimate goal.

Need a program builder and a monster recruiter that can take advantage of the NIL. Need a guy that can can coach but need better players than nearly everybody if we want to get anywhere. USC and UCLA are coming soon as well.
