I think all three will be on the field a lot, especially on passing downs. But I assume Nelson and Mathis are starters in base D.

I agree. I think they play more 4-3 with Tanner playing as a WLB. Could also play Kolarevic,Bullock,Otte or Wright at WLB.
Playing more 4-3 would reduce the need for interior DL and would allow Butler and Gunnerson to get in the rotation. I feel better about our OLB group than the DL right now. I believe Frost said they played more snaps in a 4-3 vs the 3-4 last year. (Probably not by much. )

I haven’t watched much of the early season, but there was much more 4 man or effectively 4 man fronts (4 down or 3 down and 1 lined up over tackle) in the last several games. Inside, getting Drew and another guy suited as a space eater would be ideal. Drew played end in a 3-4, so with Mathis, Chins is getting some flexibility.

If he did get substantial NIL money which it seems like he did, I’m not sure how other starters who have been in the system a year or two already aren’t looking for some cheese as well. I know I would, and I’d also be pissed off if the collective came back and said no money for you, basically saying you’re not good enough or we need it to buy better players than you. I can definitely see this dividing locker rooms. Either start paying everyone in the same ballpark or don’t play at all

There probably will be some of that while the new norms settle in and guys get used to it. But the fact is Mathis has already proven he can get after a QB. Virtually no one at a similar position on our roster has proven anything. So, if you move the move the meter you'll get paid. If not, suck rocks. Mathis was the best talent in the portal so if a few "starters" at dear old NU who haven't performed are pissed off that's too bad. People aren't going to get paid the same, that's not the time we're living in.

I am only going off of last year. I can't say the same schemes were ran on D but I do know that the B12 passes more.

Nelson: 57 tackles, 11.5 TFL, 5 sacks
Tannor: 33 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 2 sacks

Mathis: 45 tackles, 7 TFL, 4 sacks

And then whats to stop these 1 year NIL transfer guys with absolutely no loyalty to the schools themselves from asking for a raise during the season? You think players sitting out bowl games sucks, wait until these guys start threatening to sit out big regular season and/or conference championship games without an NIL raise. These guys have all the leverage currently

I'm not sure Pichai is worth 280 Million a year as the CEO of a company, and the second highest paid CEO ONLY makes 67 Million a year.

In the business world, you're worth whatever your employer is willing to pay you.

Hey I totally get that, at this point I’m just expecting a totally different college football in five years. Not even sure its college football at that point. Maybe some sort of NFL farm league. The loyalty to your school will be completely gone. I fully expect the school/grades part of it to be gone by then. It’ll be all about the highest bidder free-agency every year for the best players. 1 year deals every year with very little roster stability, other than the middle of the road players. When the deepest pocket schools start poaching the best players from mid tier teams with big cash offers, that’s when I’ll be done. And it sounds like we just saw the first of this with USC and the Pitt receiver who wasn’t even in the portal. They straight offered him cash to transfer over, thats ********

Don’t you want production to go up or at least stay steady? His was cut in half

Obviously, but that doesn't always happen when a guy who has proven he can get to the QB becomes the focal point of the blocking scheme. A guy who always has to be accounted for is a huge piece of a defense, one we haven't had in years.

Hutchinson didnt have a problem with it. Hey I hope he’s a monster, it’s just stupid to me that you have to pay for a guy like this now. Without looking there’s probably 12 D-Ends in the BIG alone with better production than him last year in a league that runs the ball twice as much as the Big12

Hell, for all we know, NU went 0-12 and took the guy who would say yes.

It’s almost like it’s your money or something. But by all means please keep bitching about it because it’s not changing.

Hurchinson? The guy that had 0, 3.5, 0 sacks his first three years.

These pearl clutching posts from fans of Nebraska are cringe-worthy enough (we actually have something to be nostalgic about), but seeing fans of programs that never won one single meaningful game in their entire history pining for the days of yore really makes you wonder.

Not sure if he's that good or the RTs are that bad but I do like the way he tosses QBs to the ground.
Regardless, we have not had a defensive player with that kind of highlight reel for a long long time. Its not all about the sacks, its about the pressure and disruption he causes.

Yup, Nelson is the closest but has to get quite where Mathis has proven to be able to do

I want to know as well
I think an opportunity to compete in a better league appealed. The B1G Olines will let him and the NFL scouts he’s trying to impress exactly where he stands as a rush end.

If they were also recognized and honored on an All Conference team, then they might have a stronger case.
