This is true. Things can be super funny when you're drunk. As she falls backwards, there's no way he's thinking about her being seriously injured. He's just perceiving a fall or trip.
When I was 12 or 13, I was playing wiffle ball with some friends. It's kind of a grassy area with loose gravel. I was rounding first base, lost my footing and went down hard on some gravel and got scraped up pretty good. One of my friends thought it was hilarious and laughed his head off. I was pissed and got up and started to slug him which was very perplexing to him.
Stop being so hard on him. He was probably fight of flight, and probably hammered.
Can't say what I would have done, but there is certainly a possibility I would have done the same. Not on me to judge him. Plus he is at least helping to pay for all her medical bills. Seems like a nice dude. Everyone should just back off honestly.

I know when I'm on the fence about something I akways ask myself, "How does Deadspin feel about it"? Unbelievable some people's reaction to this. I wonder what the world would be like if we extended more grace to each other when they need it, and offered to help people when they need it, like Matt is doing in the aftermath here. You can literally read his lips. He says OH MY GOD and turns away not wanting to look at her. I do that when they replay horrific injuries during sporting events. I don't want to look at it. So his wife runs to look at the car wreck and he turns away. Big deal. There was nothing he could do to help that woman at that point from that stage.

B) can you use common sense? If not I’ll spell it out for you. Athletes, especially QBs that just won the super bowl, get paid by endorsements. Companies will be hesitant to pay endorsement money to people that come across as bad guys in the public eye. Him paying her hospital bills are what they call damage control.
