I'll just use the big dog - OSU - as my example. Yes, schools like Rutgers gets an equal amount through this MONSTER deal but where OSU dwarfs others is the sales of stuff like gear, shirts, flags and other items. If you've ever lived in Ohio - specifically Central Ohio - the amount of OSU stuff you see on the streets and in stores is unreal. I believe they do their own marketing and don't use a separate marketing firm - could be wrong.Btwn 2015-2019 we were 7th in the big ten

Would prefer to stay with fox but highest bidder wins and more bidders is bestCBS and NBC want b10 games on next contract.
I think the thought is that more money means we can afford to fix past errors and keep up with the Jones's. Maybe even surpass them. That would help get the Jimmies & Joes we need.I guess I'm supposed to be excited about this but I'm more like .."Meh". I don't see a dime of it. Have ticket prices been lowered? Does it buy wins in the sport I care most about? I guess you can say it bought a couple. I'll leave it to others to get excited about it I guess. As long as we under achieve in football and basketball our bank balance dosn't do it for me.
This is not a shot at Nebraska, but the biggest difference between the two is that Ohio has a population right around 12 million (or near that) and 75% of them are fanatical OSU fans. Nebraska fans are every bit as devoted as OSU (maybe more so) - just more OSU people. And I believe that I read that OSU has a top 3 or 4 alumni base (PSU is no. 1)Kinda like here except for the last 20 years

fox is not leaving. Fox owns BTN network . So big 10 will stay on fox but also go on cbs or nbc. the network this would affect is espnWould prefer to stay with fox but highest bidder wins and more bidders is best![]()
the 8 games is going to happen to much money.BIG also wants to stay with 9 conference games.

At the time nobody could have predicted that these coaches would be failures. And the TV money helped us pay for them. The next ones will for sure cost much more.I understand why it's supposed to matter, but to date it has netted about zilcho, unless we care about making our failing coaches multi-millionaires.

No explaining the Moos effect. Had to be the booze.Contract extensions...as in plural, is what I was referring to. I loved both hires initially.
What some people don't realize - especially the ones that complain about the conference - is that the huge markets in B1G are staggering. Start on the East Coast - New York City, Washington D.C. Baltimore, and Philadelphia. The Midwest comes in with Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Detroit, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Chicago. All of those metro areas have populations of at least 2 million plus. And then there's smaller metros like Omaha and Des Moines - not as big as the others but not exactly hick towns either. This is why joining the B1G was not a mistake
Agree. Too many people are still stuck with the "winning should get the most" mode. Here's a new flash to the dimwits that keep complaining about the B1G - GET A CLUE. When it comes to money, the BiG is tops and let's face it - everything comes down to money. NU made the right choice in joining this conference.....not even debatableWhy? It’s a fact that Nebraska draws big viewership numbers. Let’s run your tiers by who draws the most eyeballs.
True and it was like that in the 70s-90s. You also have to realize Nebraska is a huge exporter of talent to all parts of the world . If I go anywhere traveling, yes been awhile, I get a GBR all the time. This is not a shot at Nebraska, but the biggest difference between the two is that Ohio has a population right around 12 million (or near that) and 75% of them are fanatical OSU fans. And when I was travelling a lot for my company before I retired, I was amazed at how much OSU gear and clothing I saw at huge airports like O'Hare (Chicago) and Hartsfield Jackson (Atlanta). Probably more than any other school That's all money back in OSU's pocket.
Yep, and what's even cooler is that NU's athletic department is financially secure thanks to the monster conference they're part of. If they screw it up, they have nobody to blame but themselves.True and it was like that in the 70s-90s. You also have to realize Nebraska is a huge exporter of talent to all parts of the world . Pretty fun and cool isn't it?
I don’t want to disparage your thinking or conclusion, so I’ll just politely say that I believe I’m right.Absolutely wrong. Next to nobody in New York or DC cares about college football. I lived in DC for three years. Very few Maryland football fans in the area. IMO, it was a mistake to add those teams thinking that they would bring along more eyeballs. They don't.
They brought in the MARKET. You may have Nebraska fans, Michigan fans, Buckeye fans, but they didn’t have the ability to watch games if BTN wasn’t available in NYC or DC.Yes it is true. Those people you reference were already watching Big 10 games before Maryland and Rutgers were added. Maryland and Rutgers brought in very few new viewers
Yep agree, and what's so hard to understand ? But I guess some are going to argue no matter what. A staggering BILLION dollars compared to their current $440 million. That doesn't happen if people aren't interested in B1G sports (BTN) in those marketsThey brought in the MARKET. You may have Nebraska fans, Michigan fans, Buckeye fans, but they didn’t have the ability to watch games if BTN wasn’t available in NYC or DC.
You're not seeing the big picture. Yes, the Maryland and Rutger fans don't come anywhere near the fan bases of OSU, PSU and Michigan but look at the alumni bases of some of the B1G schools - they're massive and spread out all over the country. Adding Rutgers and Maryland got the B1G into those markets.Absolutely wrong. Next to nobody in New York or DC cares about college football. I lived in DC for three years. Very few Maryland football fans in the area. IMO, it was a mistake to add those teams thinking that they would bring along more eyeballs. They don't.
this tells me that winning does influence eyeballs.. maybe not as much for certain programs, but it does have an impact on the numbers.. for all the losing we have done, our eyeballs are way down from what they used to be in my opinion.Btwn 2015-2019 we were 7th in the big ten
