It would be great if he committed here. There is no one on the roster like him. His lateral movement is so quick and smooth sometimes, it’s like he’s gliding across ice. His acceleration is very impressive as well.
Alabama had been showing him interest before he committed to TCU and came to see him play in person then setup a visit for him to Bama.

HUDL senior highlights

some of those jump cuts are absolutely filthy.

The coaches obviously want this kid along with the other two they just signed on top of who we have now. My question is who goes to make room. How many are we over now?

whoever it is who goes, it's likely we won't notice

bottom 10% of the roster should be purged annually, whether we have replacements or not

Who cares? I don’t know why people keep asking this question and worry about it. I have news for you - the player that they ask to move will be a non contributor. It’s ok that non contributors move on to somewhere where they have a chance to contribute.

Apologize if this is common knowledge and has been previously addressed

For the past couple years we've had what, 800 walkons on the squad? It makes no difference how many RB's we have, it's more important how many we wind up with.

At some point, NU has to quit playing for participation ribbons and get serious about winning some football games. You don't need more than 110 kids total on the squad to win in big time football.

Prefer quality over quantity. I am not a live or die with the star system but we appear to be loading up on 3* talent. Somewhere along the way we need a separation to the upside.
The RB glory days have come and gone at DONU. They need to bring as many 3 stars on as will agree to come. And pray out of the 6-7 one or two turn into all conference backs. Then the door to higher level backs will open. No way a 4/5 star comes to Lincoln right now.

Not every 3 star is equal. In fact, some of them are quite a bit better than most of the 4 or 5 stars. Ajay Allen has the potential to be that guy.

The next two years Amber was capably backed up by Cross and Newby. Once Newby cleared out the RB room began to slip under the waves.
But they werent All conference RBs

Ameer was in 2012. That's why we went on and won the division.

The Grant kid who is now on campus was a 5.8 4* out of HS. Rahmir iwas a 5.8 4*. As was Stepp. If you look at the stretch of RB play post AA, it is associated with a degradation in Oline play. A kid like Mills might have been more sufficient had there been better play up front. Get some better Oline along with Yant deciding to quit dicking around and the run game goes somewhere. But the line is the chicken and the RBs the egg.

HIs film is pretty good, from what I looked at. The new RB coach wants him, and is 'estatic' about Grant too. The other guy we recruited, the freshman, that makes it 3 RB in, 2 out (Sevion & Scott III), with a potential of a 4th RB (the A&M portal transfer).. so they are going to have to drop at least 1, maybe 2. I doubt they flush Rahmir.. seems like it would be Stepp and potential for Yant to go back to walk on, and he would then transfer.. prob have to wait to see how it all shakes out after spring ball.

Stepp has been and likely will continue to be no factor. With a kid like Yant, you never know. He has a lot stuff going for him, but he will either get serious or he will be gone.

I never could get a handle on the way Held handled the RB's. A new RB coach who "maybe" finds the right buttons to push on a kid like Yant, and all of a sudden NU has something. Maybe the kid really gets serious in the weight room and studies the playbook. If not, he may as well pack his bags.

It's possible these new offensive coaches have seen enough on film to just throw him on the trash heap.

As far as Rahmir goes, he does a good job for the physical size that he has, but I just can't see him being "the guy" in this offense.

It looks to me like NU will be a team that makes a ton of quick, short passes, and with Palmer, Castaneda and a couple of other speed type receivers making somebody miss and taking it to the house. It does eliminate the need for the blocking to hold up very long.

Although, I'm never a Kool-Aid drinker, I think NU has some of the elements in place to be a helluva offense this next season.

If Mickey happens to grab 2-3 more tremendous players, I think NU will make some noise this year.

Why are you so pessimistic there fella? Top 10 offense in the country next year, guaranteed.

All good points.. the RB's are going to have to be able to catch the ball in this offense. I hope Yant works out.. he's a load to bring down.

Sounds like we are recruiting hard for next year already too.. keep upgrading the talent all over while we have some momentum!

I'm more impressed with Allen than Grant. Time will tell, but we sure as heck need both of them given our history of injury and non production at the RB spot since Ozig left.

I yearn for the days of Helu, Superman, Ameer.
I think some of those guys' success was their coaching.

Yep. Take a look at the recruiting ranking of RBs that have produced vs. those that haven't at NU. There is not an appreciable level of difference. It ain't the Xs and Os but the Jimmys and Joes applies to coaches as well as players.

We need as many playmakers as we can get at running back.

Rahmir is a 3rd down back that can hold his own if needed on 1st and 2nd.

Stepp is not the guy he was at USC after injuries.

Yant is a wildcard but worth giving a shot.

Gabe coming off of a major knee injury

Sevion and Marvin gone.

We can't keep being the team that relies and injured players to make a full recovery and contribute.

We have to start recruiting over non contributors and injured players if we want to win.

Ajay is as talented as any running back we have on the roster. We'd love to have him.

In 2011 we had what we thought was a complete running-back room. good depth of guys who just didn't play much behind some serious stalwarts. Burkhead presumed the starter but it wasn't sure if one of the backups or one of the 2 supposedly great RB recruits were going to be the next guy up.

jr. Rex Burkhead who as a sophomore had already run for 1200 yards and 11 touchdowns
Dontraveous Robinson who missed the first part of his freshman year but had 165 yards and 2 touchdowns in the back half of the season and looked good for a freshman. (ended up transferring in spring because he was never going to play over the guy we are talking about)
Austin Jones a career backup but was going into his senior season - would have done well in the MA
Collins Okafor - career backup. looked solid but wasn't going to get carries over the other guys we had.
Currenski Gulillen - career backup - had once started at wr but moved to RB after his sophomore season.

we also had several good FB's who were going to get a significant number of rushing snaps and two walkons who weren't.

We had two supposedly elite freshmen already either in this class or set to play the upcoming season.
Aaron Green- supposed superstar not just of the RB recruits but of the entire class. 32nd best player in the country. 5th best back. People (not just scrubs on message boards but national media guys) were wondering if he was our next Heisman winner.
Braylon Heard - rated the #2 RB in the country by 247SPORTS #31st player in the country. If not for Green this guy was supposed to be our next superstar.

So we had a clear #1 RB who had shown infinitely more than anyone on the current roster. Several good backs behind him and two supposedly great possibly elite, young freshmen running backs that were rated higher than anyone on this entire team (I think).

And They STILL took a a 3 star rb/athlete who was otherwise probably going to vanderbilt or west virginia
named Ameer Abdullah

We have on the roster right now
Ervin - Looked Good but had a season ending knee injury. Will he bounce back and will he stay healthy?
Johnson - Looks good but is small and has a history of concussions. Can he stay healthy?
Yant - Looked pretty good. Even really good against Northwestern but has maturity issues. Already been disciplined at least once. Will he stay eligable?
Stepp - Injury prone at USC, came in with a broken foot. Even when he got healthy he barely played.
Belt?- Didn't look bad. But is he a rb or wr? Is our best back really a walkon?

We are bringing in
Emmett Johnson a 3 star out of Minnesota. Not nationally rated with no other P5 offers.
Anthony Grant the top juco rb. originally committed to Florida State.

*Deondre Jackson essentially a 3star from Texas A&M with 4 to play. - still listed as a commit but he's not coming here. we've moved on. but I listed him anyway just in case.

who knows who our best back truly is. Too many injury prone and inconsistent guys in that room.
We have NOBODY close to Rex Burkhead on the roster and NOBODY close to Aaron green or Braylon Heard in terms of hyped potential coming in. I don't know if we even have anyone on the roster right now who would beat out Dontraveous Robinson let alone Green, Heard and co.

AND PEOPLE ARE QUESTIONING WETHER TO BRING IN A NATIONALLY RANKED 3 STAR RB WHO HAS GREAT FILM AND HAD AN OFFER FROM ALABAMA?@!

ARE THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE QUESTIONING THIS INSANE?

With NU's history of going through players, I personally wouldn't concern myself with being over.

Actually wouldn’t mind Allen and the aTm kid… we have a handful of guys still who will never contribute on the field that need to be let go… Jackson, Mauga, an OL or two, wildeman, Cerni, etc

If they land the kid, it’s one enters, one leaves in the RB room.
Spring competition will be the tryout to keep their scholly. It’ll be a heated competition.
Ervin not likely to be full go I imagine?
Allen won’t be here, so he would have a default spot locked up.
