Many of these comments favoring smothers indicate that frost either won’t play the player that gives us the better chance to win or worse, that he isn’t capable of recognizing who the better player is and this at the most important position on the field

again, if this is true I don’t know how you bring frost back
At this point we have no choice

When the guy above you on the depth chart continues to make high school sophomore mistakes that cost you games, the number 2 guy on the depth chart absolutely deserves to at least get a series. I don't doubt that Adrian is more likely to take it 70 with his feet or maybe has a stronger arm. I've just seen too much stupid and too much inability to find or hit wide open receivers to think that nobody else could win a game for us. JMO
Or you could say “ How ****** am I if the guy above me continues to make high school sophmore mistakes” and I still am not as good as him?

Buddy, I'm just gonna put it this way. I saw him play as a Senior in HS in Oct 2019 when I went down there with my ex GF to visit her brother, her brother after we got down there asked if I wanted to go see my boy since he knew I was from Nebraska and knew that he was coming here and we went to the game. The other caveot, I've been to a couple of closed practices this year with my uncle who is one of the big boosters of the program. Go back and look at all of my posts on Smothers.

Oh yeah, you've been saying this a long time & I sure hope you're correct sir. If he really does have TMart's insane speed then let's get him on the field!

However, even if true, with an Oline that can't block anybody.....it's rough sledding for any qb for us.

Martinez missed his senior season because of an injury but shined during his junior year, completing 220-of-366 passes for 2,562 yards and 25 touchdowns, with just four interceptions. On the ground, Martinez ran for 1,462 yards and 14 touchdowns. Martinez also led the offense as a sophomore, throwing for better than 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also rushing for more than 900 yards.

Martinez was ranked as the No. 56 player in the ESPN300 and was the No. 4 pocket passer. Rivals and 247Sports both ranked him among the nation’s top 10 dual-threat quarterbacks, with Rivals ranking Martinez as the nation's No. 98 overall prospect and 247Sports listing him as the No. 142 overall prospect. Martinez was also selected to participate in the 2018 Under Armour High School All-America Game. He had dozens of scholarship offers and chose Nebraska over Tennessee.
Edit: Answered above.

I thought LS already red shirted last year? Why wouldn't he have? If that's the case, the dude needs put in our else Frost wasn't serious about changing things up to keep his job.

Is it bad that I kinda hope AM gets hurt to where he can't play a game? Like I don't want a long sustaining injury. Just one that clearly takes you out of the one game...

Last year didn't count (COVID), so he still has his RS.

I don't get how that works...

Everyone just keeps the eligibilty they came into last year with, no matter how much they played. For instance this is Zavier Betts second true freshman season.

It can get pretty stupid. Look at Luke McCaffrey, he is playing games in a third season. He has been at three schools and played games for two of them and is still a RS Freshman.

I heard from a good source that the Captain of the Titanic had one guy that he preferred to steer the ship, and as the ship slipped under the water he was heard to say "He gives us the best chance to make it to port."
And then he said, "I had a brilliant plan to get to New York, the lookouts and helmsman just didn't execute it."

Nebraska backup quarterback Logan Smothers may end up redshirting this season. If he does, it won’t be an intentional move by the Huskers.

Frost said Monday the second-year freshman is still the No. 2 behind starter Adrian Martinez and will be called upon if necessary against Ohio State, Wisconsin or Iowa.
Smothers has appeared in four games this season, the maximum allowed by the NCAA for players that redshirt. Frost said Smothers understands the offense well and makes good decisions.

“I think he just lacks a little bit of experience right now but he’s done a great job when he’s gone in,” Frost said. “I’m excited about him. If he gets an opportunity, I expect him to be ready.”

I read this in the OWH prior to the Ohio State game. I remembered that quote in bold and how maddening it was to see. Who's freakin' fault is it that he "just lacks a little bit of experience right now..."? Put him in the damn game!!!!!

So Smothers has a Covid year and might RS this year. And then stick around for another four years? I suppose if I'm Frost and I think I might have something in the kid, I'd want to preserve every minute of eligibility I could. OTOH, if Martinez is gimped, why not give Smothers a chance to beat Wisconsin and Iowa. The game experience would be valuable.
