1) Recruiting. Up until this season I think he's done a reasonably good job recruiting talent to NU. Both instate and out of state. Classes have been Top-25 all prior seasons.
2) Generally good demeanor on and off the field
3) Adjustments: The team does seem to adjust better than prior NU teams at halftime so games tend to be closer. Unfortunately we always seem to be playing from behind.

I can't think of anything else

What has Frost not done well?
1) Player Retention: Recruits have left in stunning numbers over the past few seasons. Some attrition is good and expected, but a lot of players that could have been contributors ditched the program.
2) Player Development: Players rarely seem to improve markedly after several season. Some seem to regress. Rarely gets backups at key position on the field.
3) Game Management: Play-calling and game-time decisions are frustrating and play a role in losing close games. I can't think if a single game he outcoached the opponent.
4) Filling Roster Holes: Hasn't utilized the portal as necessary to fill roster spots. Failed to recruit the right fits at times for the offense (QBs that can execute the playbook).
5) Instilling Disciple: Team regularly commits more penalties than the opposition. Sometimes the officiating seems biased, but more often the team just commits self-destructive penalties. Turnovers have been a chronic issue as well.
6) Preparedness: Team often looks clueless when the opposing team does anything unexpected. Special Teams, clock management, etc look as though they are only coached briefly and aren't a priority.
7) Staff: Position coaches seem to be overly assured of their jobs even when the product on the field is lacking.

What has he done well? Lose games by a touchdown or less on the regular, giving a false sense of progress. Progress is not just a 3 or 4 week process, it a continued process to build towards a certain standard. Scott Frost ******* sucks and should have been fired after the IL game.

What he's done well is managing to stay employed at Nebraska with the worst record in the modern era.

Wait, you said we could go toe to toe with "anyone in the country" which includes our putrid conference.

Since OU is the only qualifier in the category outside of our putrid conference, that qualifies? Do you really think we could go toe to toe with LSU, Georgia, ,Bama, Clemson, tOSu, heck even Okie Light? I don't.

We have shown enough ability to hang around in games, but that is about as much as we have shown. We have not won any games of substance and dominate games are few and far between. How good are Buffalo and NW?

OU has NFL guys all over and will be in the playoff if unbeaten

They’re not that different from Clem, Ohio, lsu, okst

Nw is horrible but will win some b1g games since every team they play is also horrible just like us

You mean the new OU, not the one who squeaked by in a couple early games? You did say anyone so I assume that meant, well, anyone. There is no way. I guess hanging around against Minny counts? If the B1G is putrid, what does that make the B12?

Your funny man. Who recruited Martinez and decided to hitch his wagon to him for 4 years? Again…AM doesn’t have the power to insert himself into the lineup. Kickers that can’t make extra points? Running out of the shotgun inches outside of the goal line…and Minny wasn’t the first time SF made that decision and paid for it. AM should leave after this season. It will be enjoyable to see the spin from people with our qb situation next year. Smothers may be a little bit better than McCaffery but from everything I’ve heard, doesn’t have the arm strength to be a Power 5 QB. That’s leaves a very raw and unpolished Haarberg. Get out the popcorn. Should be fun!

I agree that frosts loyalty to AM has been a pitfall in more than 1 way (Ls/recruiting).

Give me the unpolished 6’5” specimen with a rocket arm all day, though. There will be (more) growing pains, but the kid showed his moxie in the Spring Game and I really do think he’d be coming into a much better situation than AM did in 2018.

Our defense is good enough to win a lot in this mediocre-at-best conference

The AM years will be looked back on as a necessary and painful stopgap should Frost maintain his post. For what he isn’t on the field when the lights are bright I think he is a good teammate and conduit from staff to locker room.

We had the frosh left tackle for what, a little over 1 game, I really don't remember. Ever ask yourself why it took so long to make that change or why we are in year 4 of this staff and we still struggle to find O line players? Say it's because we put Benny all you have to do is really watch the O line and you won't see consistency anywhere IN YEAR 4.

So you are saying we would be worse in the B12? PSU would beat Texas, the Horns looked like a hot mess against OU. Again, speculation is fine so and so is better than the ones I like but the reality is we are sitting at the bottom of our division in a league you constantly call crap and everything else. It doesn't flow both ways.

On a side note, who were you watching in the spring game that had a "rocket" arm?

We are definitely at the bottom of one of the worst divisions in all of P5. I have never said otherwise.

We have 20-25 guys who are actual P5 football players. Total. We rely on a ton of true freshmen/2nd year guys up front on offense.

Some is due to big recruiting misses. Some is simply the nature of building a program.

Psu might beat texas, but vice versa. We would perform similarly in the big12 as we have in the b1g IMO. Just substitute the losses to nw/iwao/wisc/etc with ksu/okst/tcu/ect. Those teams are interchangeable in my mind and the minds of every other unbiased football fan.

People want to say the cupboard wasn’t completely empty when Frost got here. People want to say we have talent today. The NFL resoundingly says those things are not true.

We have had 2 guys drafted in the last 4 years. Among many things that put us in the bottom of the b1g, that’s the most glaring, at least to me. We may have NFL guys now, but they’re 18/19 years old if not named JoJo Domann.

@dinglefritz has been banging this drum for years and I think he’s been right all along.

And none of this is to say Frost hasn’t cost us half a dozen wins at least with his coaching gaffes.

Finally, Haarberg makes an NFL throw in the spring game no other qb on our roster, and maybe in Husker history, is capable of - Deep out from the opposite hash into a 20mph wind on a rope. He looks like Justin Herbert in terms of raw ability/physicality.

So Haarberg makes one long throw in a spring game and he has rocket arm and should be starting?

I have asked this question several times but how was it that Stanley and Ozigbo had such good years Frosts first year here. That was also the last good O line we have had in 4 years. Wouldn't you think someone would have seen this coming and done something about it like use the portal or get some JUCO help? It boggles my mind where we are as a program after 4 years. We have this model walk on program that is supposed to find those late bloomers or whatever, where is the return on that?

We can say we are young at the O line and at RB, how in the world can that be? Here we are in year 4 playing very young guys? We have a D that can collect SS before they leave here but yet, the battle cray is we are young.

I agree about not putting players in the league and that isn't going to change until we get some of them developed. I remember the days when Gil Brandt was rating college players for the pros. He made a statement I will never forget, basically the Nebraska players were so well coached in college they had a shorter ceiling in the pros. A generalization of course but a nice compliment to coaching and development.

List of not done well is spot on! It’s what he can control. Qb play is the key to his offense. Martinez is a gifted athlete but not the right Qb for his system. Milton was an accurate throwing qb who made good decisions. Adrian is no Marcus Mariota either. He has failed in recruiting QBs. Unfortunately there is no other Qb on the roster that’s better.

Imagine what the offense would be with a quick release accurate qb. Adrian misses open WR’s, makes careless mistakes, and holds the ball way too long. The WR and TE talent is there.

I think in 3.5 years the roster looks better.

The defense is better.

The penalties have gotten better.

The team does not quit!

Halftime adjustments have got better.

He is incorporating the option game(biased love here).

He is good with the press.

ST have got better since the first few games.

You know he cares about the fans and the state and the team. This isn't a guy whose loyalties and heart are questionable or tentative.

I agree with all of this, just needs to unhitch the wagon from Adrian. I like his offense and would actually like to see what it looks like with Smother's or Haarburg. I feel like it would be run like it should be trying to get the ball to playmakers with a QB who doesn't have a slow blinker. I feel like the receivers are open, we just never seem to find the correct one.
