So throw the swing pass to the left? Good breakdown by this guy though.

That is just not reality. He needs to make faster decisions, set his feet and let it rip. He holds it too long. Not the lines fault, most of the time.Definitely need better O-Line play. I think Am could be decent with a good line. Watch his footwork in the Illinois game compared to Fordham. He had more time and set his feet in the Fordham game.
I think the OL is hampered big time by one guy and that is Piper. The other guys although not great, aren't getting handled like Piper.I’m just as skeptical as many about Adrian, but the OL play is equally if not more concerning heading into B1G play.
What’s puzzling to me is how the OL play improved when we finished 4-2 in 2018. Will the OL improve like that this year? It’s hard to know for sure, but I have a feeling Austin will be the odd man out if Frost somehow keeps his job this year.
True. However I wouldn't be surprised if am has most of his production from busted plays/scrambles. On the flip most of his fumbles as well I would assumeDefinitely need better O-Line play. I didn't watch. Did he struggle against Fordham?I think the OL is hampered big time by one guy and that is Piper. The other guys although not great, aren't getting handled like Piper.
Yeah him and Sichterman. That guy looks like he can barely move. I was much more impressed with the backup guards who came in late in the Fordham game. We were actually getting some push with the backups.I think the OL is hampered big time by one guy and that is Piper. The other guys although not great, aren't getting handled like Piper.
the left tackle, #65, must be 7ft tall...he makes the rest of the team look like munchins
| Teddy Prochazka | OL | 6-9 | 305 | Fr. |
I thought that was the smart move right off the bat. I think Corcoran played left guard in high school and Teddy played left tackle. Seemed like their natural positions.Start Teddy and move Corcoran to guard
That's almost exactly what I said in a post on another thread.Yeah him and Sichterman. That guy looks like he can barely move. I was much more impressed with the backup guards who came in late in the Fordham game. We were actually getting some push with the backups.
I mean is this the case? We do have an OL coach, and there has been times Piper looked ok, but man this year he seems to be regressing bad.All bsing aside, when I looked at pics from 2 years ago it was always Frost, Cam and Piper hanging around with each other. Another example of a coach deciding to play his buddy to the detriment of the overall team.
Yes, bad and I think he got pulled, but don't fully remember.I didn't watch. Did he struggle against Fordham?
Damn. I remember hearing a lot about Piper being freakishly strong coming in, too. I was watching him in some film the past 2 games and you’re not wrong. He looks ok sometimes, but he looks confused too. I’ll go on record saying Martinez’s fumble at Illinois is just as much on the OL as it is Martinez’s. The left side got destroyed on that play… The opposing DCs will exploit the weak spots of the Left side of the line, and we will continue to see this if Frost, Lubick and Austin don’t make adjustments.I think the OL is hampered big time by one guy and that is Piper. The other guys although not great, aren't getting handled like Piper.
That kid never shouldve been given a scholarship. He's maybe 6'1.5" 280 thats tiny for a B1G Offensive lineman. Whats even more puzzling is why they arent starting Trent Hixon who is a legit 6'4" 300+I think the OL is hampered big time by one guy and that is Piper. He's supposedly a freak athlete that can jump out the gym, so he has to have some explosive ability. Honestly that says more about our coaching we can't get a guy like that to perform. Piper absolutely deserved the scholarship though. That kid never shouldve been given a scholarship. He's maybe 6'1.5" 280 thats tiny for a B1G Offensive lineman. Yep. What this shows is he is a bad QBso the way I see this, is subtract the entire bottom row. Those are the backwards passes from 0 to -10 yards. Then consider the next row, short yardage 0-10, high percentage.. but then his completion percentage drops way off.
It seems to me his completion percentage is inflated with all the short yardage swing passes to the sidelines, and he is actually more like a 50% passer type of guy or less.
I went and added up those completion percentages, (minus the backwards pass row) and divided by 15, so the completion average turned out to be 53.4%. (801/15)Yep. What this shows is he is a bad QB
I don’t think people are gaga about 6’9”… it’s more about their rankings when recruited. 6’9” just happens to be part of the equation.I guess the second team guard is like the backup QB, all world until they actually play.
Does anyone actually watch the line play? There is no way one can explain it away and be satisfied with it. I watched the film and showed my wife the play when a guy just flat ran right by Piper.
I am not a defender of AM. I am.on record during his sophomore year pointing out problems. Yes, he is slow to read the D and react i.e. slow release. The O line couldn't give a consistent throwing lane for him as well with guys at his feet often.
The Buffalo D is going to bring it on Adrian, especially on our left side.
Someone explain to me why we are so gaga on 6'9" linemen? I looked at all of the O line mentioned in the NFL draft and none were that tall. Way too much is made of this.
The combination of AM's lack of vision and decision making combined with poor O line play is a recipe for problems.
I agree with you.. There is of course this video..I guess the second team guard is like the backup QB, all world until they actually play.

Matt Hoskinson, (a walk on player here, and an admitted close friend of Scott) gives what appears to be a lot of excuses and thinks that the offensive line has figured out something against Fordham that could build on for the season.
I don't disagree with everything on this video, but the homerism is really strong.
I thought the same thing about hesitancy. It was a decent mixture of criticism and praise. Matt seems to defend Austin to good degree, which makes me think he’s not really the odd man out if push comes to shove for Frost at the end of the season. Thanks for the video, it was good. I detected hesitancy in Hoskinson. He started to say good things about Austin, getting on players, etc but he never said he is teaching technique like Tenopir. He wasn't piling on the O line but he certainly wasn't overly enthusiastic. In fact, he talked about maybe finding something against Fordham. That would imply something was missing before.
When I get time, I will go back through it.
Don't think there are a lot of options left.No way, I have been told countless times on this board that starting true freshmen on the OL and DL is a fool's errand.
It's not usually ideal but it may be out best option. No way, I have been told countless times on this board that starting true freshmen on the OL and DL is a fool's errand.
Zatechka on 590 today was similarly evasive. Sounded like he thinks they're making it too complicated for the O linemen and that they're thinking too much. Thanks for the video, it was good. Zatechka certainly knows more than all of us combined. Interesting that I thought the first three games have been basic blocking schemes when I replay them back. Certainly not much pulling. That is what had me most concerned, a basic plan and still not performed well.Zatechka on 590 today was similarly evasive. I don't think this offensive line starts to move any people until they replace Piper, Sichterman, and Benhardt. Those 3 are non physical, non pass or run blockers. Other than Piper, those other two are very slow footed.Post of the Year!
