It pays about the same. The United States is the richest nation in the history of the world, yet treats its citizens like crap.
The American Dream is dead and buried. America only exists as a relic in memoriam.
The drug war the United States started and continues is an abomination.
Democrats aren't liberal, and Republicans aren't about civil liberty or religious values.

You never answered my or anyone's questions to your comments. So what is the problem with each of the above you mentioned?

Explain why so many are pounding our borders down to get here, the American dream, no matter how flawed is way better than most if not all. Again, name one better.

People are fooled into thinking as most Americans do, that America is still this great land of opportunity. Also, America is a little less **** than that shitholes they come from so a net positive I suppose.

6 million open jobs before Covid

Explain why millenials couldn't take those jobs.

Spare me the millenials were screwed.

It's the BS degrees they wasted money on and now want us to.pay their debt off.
what jobs were open?
Stats don't lie unless you believe the downward trend of generations is just a coincidence.

Student Loan debt just doesn't go away. Good paying jobs are in the minority. Earning power is greatly reduced compared to previous generations. For many, playing all their cards results in barely living. That doesn't cover the anxiety of any unforeseen situations. Everything that is needed to live costs way too much. What good is our healthcare system if it is too expensive to even use it?
You're all over the place and you keeping adding to these scenarios.

What's your definition of a "good paying job"? BS, they're not "barely living". Again stop being so dramatic.

What’s going on Red? Something change recently for you?
I’m a millennial but at one point was gen y
I didn’t like being lumped in with the rest of the millennials but they’re not as bad as they’re made out to be
I hire them at work. I’ve had about zero problems with the
ones that are straight and not using (those are very few and far between) The rest are enterprising and upwardly mobile and motivated. They don’t stick around if something better comes along and that’s understandable
Their education is much more expensive than mine is and they are only 15-20 years younger than I am
Looking at my daughter’s education in about 5 years college tuition/room and board is way more than reasonable especially for out of state
We have four kids. I worked two jobs so my wife stayed at home until all the kids were in school and it about broke us financially
We are still paying off her out of state student loans at almost 40
Had to defer them when family/home emergencies came up
You never plan to have your spouse not working because of an auto-immune disease that set her back years. She works now but man that was some rough financial times
A lot of truth to what you’re saying even if it’s tongue in cheek/truth in humor stuff

I basically stopped being an American Homer and noticed we suck in many ways compared to other nations in many regards. I was always on the side of healthcare being privately owned but I'm swaying towards the other end. Healthcare is the one field that makes the least amount of sense to be controlled by the private market. You'll pay whatever they say because you have no other choice. An illness or injury can and will bankrupt you. What a ****** way to live in the "greatest nation on Earth". We fear governments denying access but insurance companies do just that and renege on coverage. Fair labor laws are way overdue.

Boomers were given the world and this is what they turned it in to. Boomers were better off than their parents as well as their children. Very privileged group of the anomalous post-war period.

Millennials are basically slave laborers in this economic system.

I'm a boomer who has been pretty honest over the years about the deficiencies of boomers. But while I admire the greatest generation, two points you've missed:

(1) They were the generation of the three martini lunch
(2) Many of them tolerated societal things that snowflakes (looking at you) think are hideously wrong.

But your post makes you a stereotype: "Millennials are basically slave laborers in this economic system"
- you live to be a victim, which leads to......
- nothing is your fault
- Boomers and their parents--as representatives of their generation--outworked Millennials and it's not even close.
- The trope of Millennials living in their parents' basements is based on a trend.

So, ya, Boomers have their faults, but you are a snowflake.

You live to blame something, someone, anything but yourself for things you don't like.
don't you think maybe, just maybe, we might have valid concerns?
pretty sure Boomers blame many things for why society sucks. If only they would look in the mirror. The "mine!" generation.

The bolded I heartily agree with.
It's not that I discount some concerns of some Millennials, but it is immaturity at its highest to act like a victim.

Got some Irish on my side who dealt with "Workers wanted, Irish need not apply". Pretty sure my kin didn't wander around complaining about being slave labor. Real sure they said the Gaelic version of "F you, I'll find my own way".

This board is basically dedicated to Boomers upset that Nebraska isn't a good football team. Sounds pretty snowflakey.

We had an election in 2020.

We had 6 million open jobs for millennials prior to Covid.

What's their excuse.

They voted for it.

Brilliant post..lol

A person’s lifetime earnings are heavily influenced by their level of pay in their first couple of jobs. For a generation that had a hard time finding decent jobs in their first few years in the work force, that’s a serious problem.

As I said before, it’s not that it can’t be overcome. It can, and lots of people have and will continue to do so. Doesn’t mean millennials don’t have a legitimate gripe about what was left to them.

I’m not sure what “they voted for it” is supposed to mean. I’m sure everyone would vote themselves into a good job if they could. Millennials do not control policy. That should be obvious if you look at the demographics of the federal government.

Boomers had affordable housing, and didn't have all these modern expenses like Internet, Smartphones/phone plans, Cable/Netflix/etc. These factors gave them a leg up, for sure.

With that said, many millennials still choose to live beyond their means....they could go to a cheaper college/community college for 2 years, they could drive older used cars, they could purchase cheaper phones and/or keep them for a long time instead of upgrading every year, they could stop eating out so often, they could cut Cable & Netflix and just watch Youtube instead, they can get roommates to save money until they can afford a small starter home. And there are also more opportunities than ever to pursue side hustles and side businesses to make extra money, thanks to the Internet.

Both of these things can be true.

I did/do all of that in the second paragraph. The real trick is to marry someone who makes twice what you make in addition to living cheaply. 🧐

Many people live to work and I think that is insane. Unfortunately, American work culture makes it difficult to enjoy work or time off.

What they don't get is that we don't want to be less off and sure as hell don't want to be blamed for what we didn't do.
It's one thing to **** up a nation, it is a whole another thing to gaslight less off generations into submission and shame with their heartless BS. All those types can go eat ****.

Somewhere where corporate capitalism isn't so morally bankrupt.
How old are you btw?

In what way is America the greatest at anything?

They also had more affordable healthcare and education. It's not just because of cable or smartphone plans that some younger people are falling into debt. I don't even know many people in my age group that have cable TV and just use a cheap Netflix subscription instead, so in many cases they already are cutting back where they can.

It's a **** "country"
It’s a representative republic, and one of very few in human history where one can make their own breaks, if they so choose.

Again, not sure what you expected from your country from the womb to now outside of the ability pave your own way. If it was anything more, this is a you problem.

The true falsehood isn’t the American dream being dead, it’s that folks expect it as a birthright.

Sorry you were led to believe the country was supposed to care about you, personally.

Maybe crying about it more will help?

I don't disagree, but a lot of that culture now is driven by fear that your job will be outsourced or automated, or you'll be replaced with someone cheaper. It's not a healthy culture, but it beats unemployment.
