We have two seniors coming back at safety and he can’t get medically cleared at Wisconsin. It seems like QB, OLB and even OG and slot WR are bigger needs.

That being said, he is obviously a good player that could help a thin secondary, especially in 2022.

I hope one of those seniors isn't starting.

Those seniors coming back ain’t exactly world-beaters.

We’re desperate for better players at every position except place kicker

A team that views a 7-win season as a monumental achievement can use all the help it can get

Well our 2 returning safeties will probably spend a collective 3.5 games on suspension from targeting calls, so it wouldn’t hurt to have a 3rd option

True. But we only have two scholarships left to give.

If he’s 100% good to go, Then I say take him. He was the starting safety for the 3rd best defense in the country and was 4th on the team in tackles (Top for DBs) during the 2019 season.

Edited: In 2019 he tallied 60 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, had 2 FF and deflected four passes as a lead contributor at safety.

I would absolutely love to have him! Think how much more holding we could get away with in the secondary now?

Just the opposite, if a Wisky player transfers to Nebraska, Alvarez will have the refs on high alert for any slight contact her makes on a receiver. He would probably have at least 3 targeting ejections.

He's transferring because Wisconsin wouldn't clear him medically to play.

If he's OK to play football, I'm not sure why Wisconsin wouldn't clear him. He's an impact player.

This whole silly rumor started as a post on another board because someone realized his girlfriend played softball for Nebraska.

Pearson can't get cleared medically which means the injury is likely related to the head or to the heart. I only make that assertion because bone or tissue injuries heal and doctors aren't hesitant to hold dudes back, especially for more than a year.

I could see Nebraska accepting him as a walk on, similar to Miller from Iowa. That limits the risk involved with providing a scholarship to a dude coming off a serious injury.

But I wouldn't hold my breathe.

Talk about player development. Pearson was a 3 star recruit in 2018 who’s power 5 offers were: Wisconsin, Iowa State and Syracuse.

They do a nice job developing players for sure. But safety is one of those spots that really benefits from having good players and in front of you. Remember Matt O’Hanlan?

Frost has offered scholarships to enough injured players over the years. It's like a thing with him, and it seems to rarely if ever work out. So I think he should absolutely stop doing this.. the reality is, it's like self handicapping your own team on scholarships, no better than Bo Pelini who couldn't fill a class so several went unused every year.. heck, maybe we are eventually headed that way too, but I am against giving scholarships to injured guys, unless you can show me a pattern where that has actually worked out.. because I haven't seen it much if at all.

From a liability standpoint, we are not taking a kid that was not cleared to play football at another football program...not a chance.

Wasn’t that just a charade created by the Iowa staff to put him on medical?

He said/he said,

I was just refuting the other gentleman stating that Nebraska would never take A player not cleared to play at another school due to some sort of liability issue

Yeah but you have to remember each of our starting safeties will have to sit out at least in a 2-3 games due to targeting if they don't change how they tackle.

Shouldn't the coach be on his players to keep their head up and wrap up? For some reason they are not getting the message across. Need to take more steps I think, as in stadium steps.

didnt we just open up another spot?
if so then 3 qbs please

Not for the 21 class. Still only two left for grad transfers/JUCOs. It’s isn’t the 85 total, it’s the 25 in a class that is the issue.

I say offer him a walk on spot and do something similar to E Miller and O. Martin situation. Then if things pan out, then he can earn a scholarship later on down the road.

How many players currently on the roster fit this situation? Walked on with the hope of a scholarship? Seems to be at least three or four, that's a lot of extra scholarships laying around.

you mean you're not supposed to tackle with a blunt shoulder hit? seems like an effective approach

Actually, that’s three or four guys who, if they received a scholarship, earned it.

Not sure why this approach would get your knickers in a twist...

Sheez tim, who has their "knickers in a twist"? I just asked a legitimate question but I guess that isn't allowed these day.

Not meant to be argumentative... I guess I just don’t see why having them walk on and earn a scholarship is a bad thing. Maybe I read in to your question something that wasn’t there. If so, my bad.

Wr - Falke
OL - Ezra Miller
OL - Nouili

you have trouble seeing why he said that after you said this....

“How many players currently on the roster fit this situation? Walked on with the hope of a scholarship? Seems to be at least three or four, that's a lot of extra scholarships laying around.”

Maybe it’s time to take a break from the message board for a bit?

But no, having a player walk-on and using no current scholarship is always a good thing. And if it leads to a scholarship down the road, it’s STILL a good thing because it means said player/s did good, great or even better to earn a scholarship. So no, it’s a win/win for everyone involved. There is no bad way to look at it, not matter how someone wants to spin it.
