Why no opt out announcement yet?

On another thread it was reported last night by a tv guy that the players voted no. Why hasn’t there been an announcement?

Penn State announced their opt out within minutes of their game. If the players have indeed voted no, what is taking so long.

I wonder if they are waiting to see which bowl. Maybe they would accept a Jan 1, but not a Dec 26?

My guess: the tweeter jumped the gun, hoping to be first and get some twitter cred. In reality, they are leaning to opting out but waiting to see if there is a better than expected option in regards to dates, location, opponent.

If they play, it will probably be without passion. And a loss.

If they play, it’s determined by the team... so I expect them to play with passion. A loss may happen, but I doubt it’s a lack of passion.

Shreveport is exactly the kind of bowl destination I wouldn't accept a bid from. It seems like it's always rainy and cold for that game, it's the day after Christmas and Shreveport isn't exactly a tourism mecca especially after the hurricanes. No thanks. Would rather they get to spend Christmas with their families. JMO. What a screwed up year.

These are the January 1st /2nd bowl games.

Birmingham bowl
Citrus
Peach
On the 2nd
Gator
Outback
Fiesta
Orange

There isn’t any bowl on those days that will invite a 3-5 football team..

AAC vs SEC
There would have to be a SEC team to opt out so is that USC there mentioning South Carolina or Southern Cal.. USC to me means Southern Cal..
Southern Cal has opted out. Bowls will be a complete mess this year.

What about making up for that 9th game? Let’s say we play on Jan.5 for the Lincoln Bourbon Bowl against Chattanooga? Is this out of the question?

If passion is the key, keep in mind no opponent is going to be thrilled with playing a 3-5 team that hasn’t been great for twenty years.

Would they still have enough time to see family and still get 5 practices in is the question besides actually wanting to in Birmingham?

Show the conference and the world that despite adversity, we are up to the challenge. We love football. Any time, anywhere. OK, not you Alabama.

What if the US rolled over when the krauts bombed Pearl Harbor? No we did not, a sleeping giant was awakened! GBR!!!

Normally I would agree with you. But as Frost stated, some of these kids haven’t been home or seen their families since March. That’s a long time for anyone much less 18-22 year old kids. Hard to blame them for turning down a meaningless game in favor of going home to see their families.

Except for that minor detail that the krauts didn’t bomb Pearl Harbor....

Agree - but opt out completely, don’t wait and cherry-pick bowl games, as some have suggested might be happening.

IDK. This team needs commitment. In full.

Forget it. He's rolling.

Another line that would also apply here....
Hey What's with this laying around sheit. Let's play the game!

If some of the players don't want to play then let them opt out. I am sure there are enough backups&youngsters that would love to play. I think we could field a team easily.

This nails it. As much as I am sure Frost wants the extra practices a bowl appearance gives, given the late end to the season the number of extra practices won't amount to more than a week, if that. And the bowl game atmosphere for the players will be totally different this year, with hotel lockdowns and no "fun" events planned. AMart and Luke are both banged up, as well as a lot of other players. They have not seen their families in months. Just pull the plug and send the boys home. Time to turn our focus to next season.

High temp in the 50s with no rain predicted in Shreveport on the 26th.

It doesn't make sense to opt out of a game you haven't even been invited to. If we are not invited to a bowl game you don't have to opt out getting the negative publicity.

I don't have a problem whichever way the players vote. If they get the Jan 1 Birmingham Bowl, not exactly a resort area but would they get a few more practices in than expected and I bet family and limited fans allowed.

Those poor little boys! Good thing we didn't think that way in past wars when 18-22 year olds only means of communication were letters if they caught up with them. Those 18-22 year olds were gone for 4 years. My first two years in the Air Force were in England 🇬🇧, I was. 19 years old, no trip home. These kids have FaceTime, zoom, Skype, and the list goes on. Man up!

This is what I think the situation is. They want to see where they could go first before they decide. I also don't see why the players still couldn't go home for a visit after playing in certain bowl games.

I can remember one year there was a raging blizzard during the bowl game in Shreveport. I think A&M was in the game. Whoever would think Shreveport would have a blizzard?

IMO this has nothing to do with commitment. These are kids. They are not professional athletes and 99.9% of them never will be. They are kids living through one of the strangest and most difficult time periods of the last 100 years. This season hasn’t just taken a toll physically, it’s mental and emotional too. And sometimes the best thing to do for focus and commitment is to unplug for awhile and then re-engage. It’s just my opinion, but I think there is more benefit to them going home to be with family and then Come back relaxed and ready to go for Spring ball.

Equating a bowl game with war might be a little over the top, but maybe that’s just me.
