You know what they gave up a lot of yards, but they got the stops they needed. Been a while since we could say that. Bend but don't break to a T. Tremendous job across the board. DL brought the juice at the very end of the game when it was needed!

Long way to go, but they look alot better. Defensive side of the ball definitely looks better coached than the offensive side.

Having to play pretty much the entire second half didn't help in the yardage column.

Defense produced 10 points on the long INT return and strip-sack/fumble. Then kept PSU out of the end zone on 8 plays from inside the 13 yard line! PSU got 8 cracks at it in the last few minutes and could not get in.

Game ball to the Blackshirts from me!

That's actually what I'm most impressed by. Was already worried in the 2nd quarter when PSU's OL was getting a good push on us. Our DL wasn't gassed at the very end of the game. They were still coming hard every snap.

They forced one punt...did not stop on 3rd down till in the red zone. Don't know if it was scheme or just sucked... miles to go on defense

500 yards but only 23 points. Gave up lots of yards outside the red zone, but clamped down inside of it and made the stops when they needed to. I'll take that.

Blackshirts buckled down when they needed to. Congrats to them! This is the kinda defense that we need. They just have a TON of work to do offensively.

If they continue to let teams to leave their punter at home, they will lose more games than they will win. This was a lucky break for them. Chins has to got to turn them lose. Bend but don't break breaks more than they bend.

Giving up over 500 yards to a crappy PSU team is hardly a reason to feel good.
I really think you underestimate the talent level of PSU on offense. They've got really good talent on their O line, WR, RB and that new QB played pretty well. Our young guys in our front seven I thought played pretty well today other than that whiff by Henrichs on that long TD run.

I watched them play Maryland and they couldn’t move the ball. They are using their third and fourth string running backs. Yes they have talent but 500 yards.

I long for the day when a majority of people in this country can get beyond binary thinking (yes/no, black/white, good/bad, 0/1)

PSU vs. Indiana - 87 plays 488 yards - 5.609 yards per play
PSU vs. tOSU - 57 plays 325 yards - 5.701 yards per play
PSU vs. NU - 91 plays 501 yards - 5.505 yards per play

This is a team game and the performance of one of the units (offense, defense, special teams) has a huge effect on the performance of the other units. The offense put a lot of pressure on our defense in the 2nd half and the defense bucked up and held their ground.

Pre-season top 10. Lost to two top 10 teams. Maybe they’re 0-4, but they’re far from “crappy”. I haven’t posted in almost a year because of just how intolerable people are on here. We held them to less points than OSU. So I guess Ohio state has a crappy defense as well.

This isn’t the 90’s. The game has changed and stifling defenses aren’t a thing any more. Just ask Saban. Yeah, Nebraska’s defense may still not be a top caliber, but they’re moving in the right direction and the best unit we have fielded in many years. If you can’t admit that they’re taken a big step forward this year, then you’re either blind, unknowledgeable or have an agenda.

You're right but I bet Iowa holds them to less yards and points.

We are really just one or two OLB that can rush the QB (example: Shaquem Griffin) from getting off the field on 3rd and long. We REALLY need to keep that Payton kid from FL. Can't believe we haven't been able to show the Griffin tape to HS kids and show them we need that guy, and if you are, you're in Day 1.

If we do that, this defense's numbers start getting really good. They had quite a few 3 and 5+ conversions (as we've seen the last few years), and the offense gets a lot more chances to convert.

The standard right now isn’t “have a better defense than iowa”. The standard right now is to get better. If Iowa holds them to less yards and points but loses, how does that affect your argument?

We all want Nebraska to be great right now. But that isn’t the case. The only way to get there is to build. And that takes time. I see progress defensively. I see potential but inconsistency with the offense. The proper but hard reaction right now is to be patient. We’ve tried firing coaches every 3-4 years...it doesn’t work. So let’s try to give a guy who was a coach of the year and cares about the program as much if not more than us a long term chance. Frost is our best chance. The road will be bumpy, but you can see it happening if you look at more than W’s and L’s. It’s a tough pill to swallow as a Nebraska fan, but it’s reality.

They got burned on a few plays. Certain DB out of position, or took the wrong guy. We got burned on a few blitzes and at times, inside linebacker was nowhere to be found.

But

They played hard, and with fire, didn't let those bad plays turnover into worse plays..

There is room for improvement, but I also think there are some young guys that should be playing more at certain spots.

I love the energy and no quit from the defense today.
