At one point this was true. Now there is zero chance of him getting the job.Brian Ferentz. Sonny boy will take over and win 6-7 games a year for a decade.
Could be a package deal. The more intriguing question is will Kirk retire or would Barta have to fire him?
Could be a package deal.![]()
So U of I president has announced his retirement but will stay on board till his successor is named. Not sure any coaching candidates of merit consider Iowa with the school’s senior leadership in flux. Barta, the AD is also a guy who has received tremendous criticism with how he has led the department in the past and he may feel his seat is getting warm as well. The more intriguing question is will Kirk retire or would Barta have to fire him?

He’s a terrible offensive mind. Do not want him to take over.Last year at this time that seemed likely. Right now his odds are about the same as Sandy Buda taking over.
Not just the unrest over the Summer where he was a pivotal character, most folks outside of his dad within the program don't like him. The guy is a next level doosh.
LOL at those first 3.I do not believe Brian Ferentz will get the job, Iowa is going after someone with previous HC experience. Stoops? Mike Leach? Bill Cowher? It will definitely be someone with the “it” factor. Probably a Mike Norvell or Luke Fickell.
Leonhard could be a sneaky good hire.Klineman
M. Stoops
Fickell
Jim Leonhard

At 5+ million a year they will get the “cream” of the crop regarding a coach.LOL at those first 3.
Wrong answer! Stoops is only 60. Born 09/09/1960 LOL!!Stoops is almost 70 years old, that ain't happening!
Would he have to get a release from Alvarez, since that is who he works for currently?Kevin Warren
The only cream you're taking is gonna be a hot one from @jlb321At 5+ million a year they will get the “cream” of the crop regarding a coach.

Alvarez basically owes Iowa as they taught him about coaching and creating a winning program. He patterned the program at Wisconsin at what he learned at Iowa. Barry basically owes his career to Hayden Fry, he won’t hesitate releasing anyone for a chance at coaching the Hawkeyes.Would he have to get a release from Alvarez, since that is who he works for currently?
