Took pics of a couple county seats in the Texas panhandle yesterday. I missed them when was out here earlier here this year. Woke up early today and was entering the park just as the sun was rising. Hiked out to the lighthouse (rock formation) and back. Had a cheeseburger at the trading post. Having a ribeye tonight. Head back to DFW in the morning. Love it out here!

Nice photo. I spent a month in the Amarillo area earlier this year. I would much rather have spent it in that canyon.

Yeah. It's nicer in Canyon. I'm going to check out how much season passes (Texas State Parks) are.

On top of the lighthouse formation.

Very cool! I need to go do that! I'm out here in Aledo! Do you ever go to any North Texans for Nebraska events?

Haven't done that in years. I've gotten together with a few on this board over the years. When I was younger, it was harder to find the game. Now, you can watch it anywhere. Well, except for the stadium. LOL I plan on going to a game in Lincoln in the future. Hopefully after all this COVID stuff gets back to normal.

Well, I'm ten away from all 254 here in Texas. I've been to all of the counties (June), but still need to take pics of ten county seats. :)
theyre one of the most overlooked, important characteristics of the American lanscapes (besides retail row buildings in rural towns). most all other buildings are subject to wrecking ball.

I was just telling that to lady while waiting in line to vote. In our big cities (in Texas), we tear down old buildings all the time. But those smaller towns don't have anyone that wants to spend the money to tear down old buildings. I LOVE old buildings. Besides the landscapes you see here, my favorite stuff is courthouses and old buildings. Love water towers, too. I also get firehouses and police stations. I also do my best to get First Methodist and First Baptist churches. There's invariably one in each (Texas) town.

Since that is my goal. My mother wanted me to finish this before she passed in 2017. My wife made to 166 counties with before she passed. It's something I wanted to do before I passed. You have any bucket list stuff? I update mine all the times as I experience things.

It's also something that me and my late wife liked doing. It's been hard at times.

I don't take offense. I liked some things and my wife liked pics of other things. She also took pics while I was driving. Now, I get to do it all by myself.

I had a few more mountains I wanted to summit but alas my failing joints aren't going to allow it. Right now my top bucket list thing to re-visit is having a sandwich and cold beverage at the grill at Jackson Lake Lodge in Wyoming. HAVE to get back there. That patio might be my favorite civilized spot in the world. It used to be I didn't want to just sit and look at the Tetons. Now it's mostly enough.

A visit to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is one vista I would like to see that I haven't yet.

I've been to the South Rim. January 1, 2016. Yes, part of the obsession is doing stuff while you can. You never know when you will no longer be able. I like to look up to people like George Bush or Jimmy Carter. They kept (keep) on living and doing things well into their old age.

I was doing some very high impact backpacking and day hiking up until I had a lengthy stay in the hospital due to an autoimmune disease 5 years ago. It took me well over a year to fully recover from that deal and my arthritis continued to progress to the point that it's fairly painful to hike for long periods of time. I did do one hiking trip to RMNP after that episode. I had the rest of my meniscus removed in my right knee a year ago and was told I needed a replacement then. Still haven't done it because the ankle I dislocated on that side is arthritic and there's not a good option for that anyway. My right hip needs to be done too. I had my left hip replaced 12 years ago and did lots of hiking after that. Heck I even played a little half court basketball on that baby. The ironic thing is that the left knee that I tore the ACL in and never had it repaired is probably the best joint I have in my lower body. I played some intense full court basketball on that knee 3 times a week for over 15 years after I tore it. I had to have it cleaned up once and it never bothered me after that.

I still work on my feet for a good share of the day but man by the end of the day my right knee and ankle and my left foot are telling me it's time for a hot shower and something with alcohol in it. I'm hoping to maybe still do some hiking down the road. I've had a couple of short trips planned these past 2 summers but last summer my one old hiking buddy ended up in the hospital with pneumonia and this summer COVID shut me down. Maybe next summer. I used to lead/guide scout groups just about every summer in to the Tetons/Yellowstone, the Bighorns and Rocky Mountain National Park etc but I'm out of that now. I stayed with it for about 7 years after my boys were done to be there for the son of a friend who died way too young. I've got a one year old grandson now so spending time with him is at the top of the bucket list now.
