Funny, I was supposed to be there next week as part of a big Omaha to Colorado,Utah,Arizona,New Mexico,Texas,Kansas loop camping tour that I had to cancel.Took pics of a couple county seats in the Texas panhandle yesterday. I missed them when was out here earlier here this year. Woke up early today and was entering the park just as the sun was rising. Hiked out to the lighthouse (rock formation) and back. Had a cheeseburger at the trading post. Having a ribeye tonight. Head back to DFW in the morning. Love it out here!

I have a buddy who collects state capitols. He wanted visit every state capitol in the country......again I ask why. I guess I like cows so you could ask me why.

I had a few more mountains I wanted to summit but alas my failing joints aren't going to allow it. Right now my top bucket list thing to re-visit is having a sandwich and cold beverage at the grill at Jackson Lake Lodge in Wyoming. HAVE to get back there. That patio might be my favorite civilized spot in the world. It used to be I didn't want to just sit and look at the Tetons. Now it's mostly enough.
I was doing some very high impact backpacking and day hiking up until I had a lengthy stay in the hospital due to an autoimmune disease 5 years ago. It took me well over a year to fully recover from that deal and my arthritis continued to progress to the point that it's fairly painful to hike for long periods of time. I did do one hiking trip to RMNP after that episode. I had the rest of my meniscus removed in my right knee a year ago and was told I needed a replacement then. Still haven't done it because the ankle I dislocated on that side is arthritic and there's not a good option for that anyway. My right hip needs to be done too. I had my left hip replaced 12 years ago and did lots of hiking after that. Heck I even played a little half court basketball on that baby. The ironic thing is that the left knee that I tore the ACL in and never had it repaired is probably the best joint I have in my lower body. I played some intense full court basketball on that knee 3 times a week for over 15 years after I tore it. I had to have it cleaned up once and it never bothered me after that.I've been to the South Rim. January 1, 2016. Yes, part of the obsession is doing stuff while you can. You never know when you will no longer be able. I like to look up to people like George Bush or Jimmy Carter. They kept (keep) on living and doing things well into their old age.
