The other recruiting sites are saying he has 3 years to play 2. Rivals and the Omaha World-Herald are saying he's 2 for 2. I'm not sure who to believe here. He is not listed on his JUCO's 2017 roster, just 2018 and 2019, so I would think he still has a redshirt to use.
2017 Redshirt
2018 Safety for Diablo Valley (RS Fr.)
2019 LB for Diablo Valley (RS So.)

cover kicks and punts at the very least year 1

I'd excuse some new-to-football penalties if they result in bone-crushing highlights

I love the dudes that are like "That is awesome that he isn't online...all those dudes online are jokers!"

Of course...this is all posted by people online...on this site...and checking their twitter.

that would be like a David Schwimmer calling the kid gay

So much this. We need athletic assassins (metaphorically, of course — this isn't Baylor) on special teams. Depth will allow more players like Mauga to excel on special teams. In addition, even if he just learns a couple of different blitz packages on defense and is inserted to wreak havoc on third-and-long, then we're better on defense as well as special teams. Dude doesn't need to be an every-down player to help us immediately. We have two fifth-year seniors as the likely starters at ILB, and we have a couple of strong RS freshmen to provide initial depth. All of the non-starters at DB and LB should be ready to say "hello" to Ihmir Smith-Marsette next year, and not just as he flies by them en route the end zone.

I'm just quoting what his coach said. Maybe the coach is embellishing. Mauga was off the radar of the recruiting services, so it's hard to know who has all offered.
Rivals also lists a slew of old offers for a lot of prospects which could never have been used for a real life scholarship so I'm not sure how much we should make of those offer lists.

I didn't say online...I said twitter. I personally do not post anything personal, pictures or opinions that are tied to my actual being. Having discussion and dialogue about interests is far and away different from one sentence responses when you are emotionally distraught or enlightened. The seven second culture has made everything superficial and generally exaggerated. If you want to berate a player you have to go to twitter and say he sucks balls instead of pointing out in a data driven article that he wasn't blocking on screen passes. A kid who isn't on twitter is a kid who isn't addicted to attention, good or bad. And I guarantee the bad attention has a greater effect on performance than the good. There is a reason the great athletes go through social media blackout.

Getting voted conference defensive player of the year first year playing LB when he played on a team that went 0-5 in conference play is impressive.

And he follows up his announcement saying “nobody cares work harder”

If you think they are "blacked out" you are crazy. They have burner accounts, their friends share/show them ****, they post and tweet all the time you just don't know it is them. They sit around making fun of us and the stuff we post.

He will be in Lincoln for the Spring.

Also, here's something really quite amazing about Mauga:

The Bay 6 League Coaches voted him Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

His team finished 0-5 in league play. That would be like the Big Ten selecting a LB from Rutgers to be Defensive Player of the Year.
That’s great but playing LB in the Bay league isn’t exactly like playing LB in the B1G is it?

-15 years ago on this board I’d have had this kid winning the Heisman
-10 years ago on this board I’d have had him all conference
-5 years ago I’d have had him a day one starter

I’m just skeptical now. Sorry. I’ve just seen this late Juco diamonds in the rough story play out before and it doesn’t usually work

I believe Eteva came to college @ 5’10 160 pounds as a safety, hit a growth spurt and weights, eating etc. always was a hard hitter but know packing a punch at 220 instead of 160. Way under the radar, LSU showed late interest like us but he’s N.

He actually does have a twitter: https://twitter.com/tarz22strongg. But doesn't seem to tweet much about himself, he mostly retweets his friends' offers/commitments. He hasn't tweeted anything about his own commitment yet, which is kind of strange.
He doesn't seem like a social butterfly. Offers listed on recruiting sites are self reported and I don't believe that the offering school can confirm that they've offered so regardless of what shows up on the database you're trusting the kid or his coach.

His coach said most of the PAC-12 offered him and LSU showed interest.

This is his 3rd year playing football and first year at LB. This kid screams Red Shirt but he doesn’t have one to give. I just don’t expect much from him in 2020 except for people to ask why he doesn’t play

He should at least be on special teams

We have to start taking tbat serious...hell Miles Jones could have at least return kick offs.

Since you couldnt put him in for 2 yard run early in the season instead of letting Wandale take a beating.

your post hasn't aged well now that he's finally been evaluated and his offers disclosed. Does he remind anyone of LaVonte David with the way he plays?
