This will be a time to see if these coaches have some grit. Sadly, I don't see much of a different product than the previous staffs.
Terrible OL play, weak, undisciplined, bad technique
No rhythm to the offense.
Mysterious roster moves
Don't get me started on the LBs
Worst special team units I may have ever seen
Regression
What this staff has going for them:
They seem to give a ****
They can recruit
I'm behind this staff. But I'm far from impressed outside of getting a few dynamic players. I know we have weaknesses with the roster, but these dudes show up like they didn't practice at all.
If we come out uninspired and lose most facets of the game to IU, I'll probably tune into the NFL and forego Nebraska football till next season (not that anyone cares). I can't keep watching a team I really love play as pathetic as they do. NO more excuses. I'm sick of hearing them. This staff has to perform.
Hopefully this gets turned around.
It's shocking to see the lack of attention to detail that's become the norm over the last decade still here. Big things and little things.
12 men on the field coming out of a timeout. Illegal formation and other myraid mental mistakes causing positive plays to be called back and killing several drives.each game.
Center that can't snap the ball inside the frame of the QB for a month (an issue that should be corrected within a couple days). Fair catches inside the 10 yard line over and over.
I didn't expect a miracle to arrive with the new staff.
But I did expect to see some good football. And this isn't good football.
Watching the team make so many
mental mistakes each week is piss poor football, and is why we lost so many close games last year. It's how Colorado -- an awful team -- was able to beat us twice. It's the same undisciplined football being played here that was here under Riley and here under Pelini. With the exception of the routine late hit personal fouls, it's all still here.
For example, Northwestern had beat us 3 out of our last 4 matchups going into this season.
They never stuff the ball up our backsides -- they pretty much hang around, take care of the ball, make very few mistakes, and wait for us to blow our own head off. And that strategy has worked for them with regularity, almost worked for them again this season.
I think that this scheme is built around the offense being so dominant that it erases much of that. Except that our OL is so overmatched in this conference that the offense never gets going.
Unfortunately for us, developing that OL is not something that happens quickly.
