Replays seen at the game made it almost impossible to change it no matter what had been called!

That was some really solid defense. Damn it feels good to see a defense again that has strength on the line and speed at the skill positions.

That said I still have two concerns. First, we were still giving up too many pass plays in the intermediate middle areas of the field. Second, it was a real kick in the nuts to see Cam go down. That kid has “special talent” written all over him. I hope his injury isn’t serious because his skill set is very needed.

And where the hell did Eli come from? I love that guy.
We're ranked 116th in passing yards allowed per game. So that's not good.

Where are the posters that were slamming the Blackshirts and saying they would be no better this year? We will finish as a top 30 Defense this year. Mark it!

That's a good question. Indeed, where is the 400,000 (self proclaimed) ultra brilliant posters who demand Chin needs to be fired? Haha.....they're pretty quiet these days. Imagine that! Laughing

We're 69th in total defense, 51st in scoring defense. We're improved but still a long way from a good defense.

Great job by the defense tonight - anymore it’s really difficult to shutout anyone!!

That 4th & Goal from the 1 was HUGE!!!!
Well, it's still early in the season BUT so far the results just prove what you learn every season - the preseason speculation usually is VERY flawed. This year the offense got off to a slow start and the defense got off to a very good start. That's pretty much the opposite of what a lot of preseason pundits said would happen.

I think the only thing they missed on defense was that they thought our linebackers would be much worse than they are.

I respectfully disagree. As I see it, our defense is on the field a LOT due to our offense having essentially no real running game between the tackles. So it usually either scores quickly or goes 3 & out which results in the blackshirts not getting much of a breather (at all). When we can run the ball with some authority our defensive stats will improve boatloads.

Imo, the defense is playing good and getting better each game. Also, I just LOVE their aggressive play. Beaver-ball is long gone & I'm as happy as a pig in sh*t.

If special teams blocks a punt or field goal and returns it for a TD, nobody would ever credit the defense for scoring that TD.

Special teams is 1/3 of the game and should be treated as such.

When you’re trying to stop the other team from scoring, whether it’s your base, nickel, or “special teams,” it’s your “defense.” When you’re trying to score, whether it’s lining up for Hail Mary, or for a field goal, it’s your offense. Using your logic, the offense should only get credit when it scores 6, and “special teams” gets credit for field goals and extra points. How many times has anyone ever said “their offense averages 18 points a game and their special teams averages 9 points a game?” And to answer your question, I’m certain the blocked kick resulting in a touchdown would be categorized as a defensive touchdown, because it was the defense that scored it.
