Hope is eventually N, but not looking very good at this point. Even when we were peaking for 3 decades, a few in-state studs got away. I remember a stud O-lineman back in the 90's that went to ND. Can't remember his name? Richter?

Wiltfong disagrees. If he was going to pull ND trigger I think he would have done it on his official.

I seen that too. It may be a Tate Wildeman and Iowa vs Huskers type deal. We all remember how that played out and that family was Iowa fans and players (or at least dad was). And if we don’t get Watts, so be it. We did pull Betts and he’s the WR that may end up being a 5 star player at the end.

I believe you're thinking of Tim Ridder the big OT out of Creighton Prep.

Are you thinking of Trevor Robinson from Elkhorn who went ND? That was more recent though...2004? 2005?

Larry Station was always the one that hurt the most to me in the "one that got away" category.
Yes, Larry Station was a tough one and he had a great college career. I believe there was another highly touted defensive player from Central shortly after that who didn't go to NU, but I cannot recall the name.

I think it is hard for any of us die hard fans to believe, that anyone who lives here doesn't automatically love the huskers. Many families, kids live here but have zero interest in the huskers. So it isn't a dream for them to play for Nebraska. Suck be we aren't going to get every instate kid. As we have said we want kids who want to be here 100%. If the coaches have to convince and beg them to come here, it probably won't work out well.

Lol I know they are like aliens, hard to understand.

Yeah, I think you are right. I think it also is true that, unlike before, we've had a lot of coaching changes and haven't been nationally relevant. That always helps land recruits, in-state especially.

So long as our fanbase stays as rabid as it has been, Nebraska will never become completely irrelevant. Although it reached an all time high before Frost came in. His prestige as a coach alone has made us semi relevant again. I believe that’ll change this year if we miss another bowl though.

It is rare that the coach doesn't have to "convince" a recruit but no begging. Every coach has to sell something to recruits. It is great for him to have so many options and I would never blame a kid for wanting to explore a different part of the country and school. A degree from ND is pretty valuable. Glad so many kids from other states decide to come to Nebraska, works both ways.

Yeah, I agree. If we don't make a bowl game this year, I think I might be done being an insane Nebraska fan. That only takes 6 wins and our schedule is a cake-walk compared to prior years.

I think it's possible that Watts could verbally commit to Notre Dame and then end up signing with Nebraska or vice versa. I think the staff has done everything they can to this point. I would just stick with him no matter what happens because things can change between now and signing day.

He’s been wanting to play for the Irish from the very beginning, just like Wan’Dale Robinson wanted to play in Frost offense from the very beginning...

If he wants he can change his mind around Thanksgiving...

Ty Goode a WR from Lincoln South East picked ND as well in 1994

and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the Watts family is originally from Nebraska.

Maybe it's just me, and I am not a Notre Dame fan at all, but when we lose an instate player to them it doesn't bother me as much as losing them to someone else. Some kids like the religious ties there and it's a good school. Hard to hold it against someone for making that choice.

Right that is the kicker. Not from Nebraska and not fans. Tough to get a kid to stick around with zero connection to the state or program.

I think the two all-staters he won a title with last year then committed may disagree with the zero connection to the program bit but who knows

You folks are talking about fellas who didn't play for the Huskers. I honestly don't know who they are, and I've followed college football since I was a child.

So they must not have been much of a loss. JMO.

So if Watts goes to ND, do we have to worry about his 2 high school teammates transferring there? I mean they would have a “connection” to ND.

C’mon man. There just friends and teammates.
