The NCAA committee should have went back to their early 2000s-like agenda and produced a regional like this...

1- Tennessee
2- Creighton (host)
3- Nebraska
4- Omaha

The committee has awarded a 2 seed a host site in some years so why not do it this year? Can you image the crowds that would come out to these games? It would be better than a possible UCLA- Oregon State, Ok State- Tex Tech, Arkansas- Miss State super regional matchups.

The committee has done better. Not complaining about Nebraska's manageable pairing. I think we got a better draw than Creighton and Omaha but at some point I think the committee needs to spread some of the host sites around when you have good seasons by teams that are not normally in the host discussion.

I believe that since they started seeding the top 16 teams last year(instead of just the top 8 previously), that all of the seeded teams host, so we won't see #2 seeds host anymore.

Its still possible. I think a few years ago Uconn was a 1 seed but didnt have the facilities to host a regional so it went to the 2 seed. That would still be a possibility in the future.

That or the #1 seed finds a neutral site. Okie State is doing that this year due to heavy rain in Stillwater, Maryland went up the road to a minor league ballpark a few years ago, and Purdue like 6 or 7 years ago "hosted" in Gary, Indiana, when they were doing renovations on their stadium (and not expecting to host).

This is the better solution, in my opinion, and more fair to the team that earned the #1 seed. I remember when the 2000 Nebraska team - arguably the best in school history - earned a #1 seed but had to go to Minnesota for the regional. Gophers' park was a dump that was about half a tick better than The Buck, weather was terrible and about 40 Minnesota fans even showed up. Thankfully the Huskers won, but the whole thing made little sense. Might as well have held it in Wichita, since the Shockers were the #3 seed.

Oh man, Shane Komine breaking his jaw on a comebacker. That's about all I recall from that regional.

Wasnt that in the super regional? Stanford maybe?
No, Komine's jaw was broken in the regional. He pitched in the Super Regional the following week with his jaw wired shut.

For this and other reasons, Komine might be my favorite Husker athlete of all time. What an amazing college career.

#1 seeds host unless their stadiums do not meet specs then the #2 seed in the regional may be offered the host spot!
