And Charlie Weis inherited a .500 Notre Dame team and took them to 2 BCS Bowls his first 2 years there.

KU Football is like Nebraska Basketball without the great facilities and fan support. Les Miles won't have any clue how to recruit and win somewhere with no resources or recruiting base. He won't have SEC tradition or Boone Pickens to help him at KU. He won't be able to hire the top assistants like he could at LSU.

If I'm hiring a coach at a place like KU, I'd be trying to hire the brightest young offensive minded coach I can find. Seth Littrell at North Texas seems like a no-brainer - he started his coaching career at KU and runs a dynamic offense at UNT.

I'm not sure how realistic Les Miles is but I think he could do a decent job there. Ed Orgeron has burnt some bridges to Louisiana high school coaches and KU has taken advantage of this to establish their own Louisiana pipeline. No doubt Les could capitalize on this and stick it to his former employer a bit.

Miles to KU would be GREAT if for no other reason than the press conferences....:)

This seems like a rash decision by a new AD, but upon further review it looks like the KU football staff saw the writing on the wall and either stopped recruiting or at the very least no longer had their heart in it. So if you are a struggling program and you only have one commit anyway, it's probably a good time to make a change. My guess is that Long has someone in mind and by making the change early, he's going to position himself to get someone in by late November.

I think this new December signing period is going to lead to more in-season firings. That's unfortunate for coaches because it takes away the opportunity to finish the season strong and perhaps save their jobs.

I couldn’t agree more. I live in KC, so many of my close friends are suffering KU fans, so I completely agree. If Miles is available and willing to take the job then you take him. I just don’t think he’s going to have the same level of success at KU that he did at LSU. That said, I do think for KU that’s a good hire that would make you guys competitive and respectable. You would consistently make bowl games and would get a few shots at winning the Big 12. At the very least you would piss off a lot of KSU fans who are starting to realize they may never get rid of Snyder.

Not sticking up for Beaty but they want an experienced guy and it is very hard to imagine a current head coach jumping to Kansas. Maybe a former head coach...one more adventure for smiling Mike?

Oh yea, in no way would anybody expect Miles to have the same level of success as he did at LSU. I would like to see consistently around .500 and be in bowl games every other year or so.

Our football program is broke, folks. Something tells me though that this is gonna be an eye opening hire. As one KU player's parent told me "Long wasn't brought here to **** around!". Kind of like you guys did with the Frost hire, there comes a time you have to roll up your sleeves and start punching hard.

Well, he would give you want you want, .500 football and he knows how to recruit to a school with little tradition. He was at Oregon State for many years.

Beatty has actually gotten Kansas better, which suggests that he was fired when the new AD was hired to fire him. They did it before Saturday's K-State game because KU could win it and then what?

As for Les Miles, my God, he'd be like hiring WTFChuck again. Which is why KU will probably do just that. They haven't had a solid coach since Mason ran off to Minnesota, so what's the rush?

Given their FBI issues on the basketball side, I can't see them hiring anyone with a 'record' like Art Briles. Bill Self brings enough baggage.

I don’t think he would leave his current position, but if I were the KU brass, I’d see how much it might take to lure Leach from WSU...the Pirate seems to enjoy a good challenge

We beat a one win Rutgers and Central Michigan team. Beat TCU but the dude is 6-39. Humor me and watch the Iowa State replay and tell me you have seen worse play calling in your life. Doubt you have.

With the right coordinators and staff Miles would be about the best KU could hope for. Instant cred. He could make them respectable.

Les Miles is a likely pick. He didn't get a P5 job offer last year so it's not like he has a lot of other choices if he still wants to coach. Nothing to lose for him. And he was a good recruiter and has past experience in the conference so it makes sense for Kansas.

Mangino proved you can win at Kansas but nobody is going to expect conference or national championships either with Oklahoma and Texas in the same conference.

David Beaty is suing KU because they are holding his buyout until the NCAA is finished investigating Beaty for NCAA infractions.
KU might have to give up those 6 wins in the 4 years they got from all of Beaty's cheating ways.


“Immediately following the end of the season, Kansas Athletics staff conducted standard exit interviews of all football coaches and staff, and through that process we learned of possible NCAA violations allegedly committed by Beaty,” Marchiony said in a statement. “KU contacted the NCAA and the Big 12 Conference and began an investigation into the matter. Beaty refused to cooperate with the KU review and, ultimately, the NCAA took the lead in the still-ongoing investigation.”

I guess it depends on the alleged violations. $3 million is pretty much chump change and I find it hard to believe that KU would hold it unless there was something serious.

A little more reading into this. It sounds like Beaty had his video guy function as the offensive coordinator without actually being an official NCAA coach.
Maybe not the biggest violation ever, but holy crap, what a moron if true.
