True Detective Season 3 has a good chance to rival Season One. We’ll see how the next two episodes go though. Read an article a month back, Ali said the last episode was the best TV script he’d ever read, keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

True Detective is still living off season 1. Season 2 was hot garbage, and this season has also had multiple episodes where literally nothing of consequence happened. I’m holding out hope for the last two episodes though.

I have yet to watch IATN.

Season 1 of true detective is in my opinion the greatest single season of television I have ever seen. The acting is unbelievable. Season 2 was a disappointment but so far I have enjoyed season 3 very much.
Thanks, I have something new to watch :)

Haven't seen any of True Detective Season 3, but agree with this assessment of Seasons 1 and 2. I really wanted Season 2 to be good, and kept waiting for it to be, but it was awful.

I feel like Season 1 set a nice precedent for TV in which really good actors agreed to do a series for a very short period of time, and the results were outstanding. Now it seems like things are trending back toward mediocrity (or worse).

I still don't know what was going on in season two. Like, I literally have no idea what that season was about.

Season 2 was awful. Season 1 was incredible. I have a feeling season 3 will end with a bang. So far I'm hooked on I Am The Night. If you haven't watched it's getting interesting.

I have enjoyed I am the Night, but it pales in comparison to True Detective.

Season three has been tremendous. And I always chuckle when people say Season 3 has dragged a bit. Every scene in that show is meaningful. Every camera angle has its motivation. Every sentence is carefully crafted. There is nothing wasted. And the acting this season has been incredible. Ali's ability to portray Hays in the different decades is phenomenal. I think his old man portrayal is the most impressive thing he's done as an actor, and the man won an Oscar.

Also, when Stephen Dorff was first announced as signing on, I laughed. I thought it sounded ridiculous. Hell, Dorff hasn't been relevant for 20 years. But damn, he is really nailing the part of Roland. His tearful display at the end of episode 5 may just earn him an Emmy.

Season 1- Alexandria scene- nuff said
Season 2- ***-pen!
Season 1- McConaughey commands the screen in every scene. Awesome season.
Season 2- Total dogpoop other than the one scene you referenced. Watching Colin
Farrell threaten a bully at his house was hilarious.
Season 3- Pretty good so far even though I am lost at times. Season one was like that a lot too. Ali is really good. I feel the next couple episodes will make us all
be like...."No kidding. How did I not figure that out?"

Honestly, I just really wish I could hear/understand Ali better when he speaks.

Wow, glad to hear this! That was the one thing that I haven't liked about it, seems to mumble too much, or maybe their sound people aren't good. Or, I thought well, maybe my hearing isn't what it used to be, but didn't seem to have the same problem with other shows.
