Honestly...this is with all possible respect...you had to be insane to think AM was not going to be named the starter.

only because the board was full of idiots...any amateur football fan could see how talented Adrian was...his mobility, combined with arm strength, and arm creativity was FAR superior to anything Gebbia could pull. Gebbia needed to be 6'5 220 to get away with his lack of mobility, and lack of upper trunk strength...meaning he needed a clean pocket to make plays...and was over reliant on the "full stroke"...needing to get his whole body into a throw. Adrian can throw from multiple arm angles, without stepping, and on the run. A MUCH superior qb from day 1....throw in the maturity, leadership, and nature running ability and it was no doubter...fans overlooked the fact that AM was a high ranked 4 star, who showed out in an all-star game, and didn't play in a game his senior season. He is by far our most talented recruit since the late 90s....he is Frosty's Suh...and all winning will go through him while they right the ship. Hopefully they don't pull a Pelini and think "they" did it...and continue to grow and develop the program so losing AM isn't as devastating as it was to lose Suh.Remember when Martinez over Gebbia was controversial.....good times.
Don’t get too big of a head, this isn’t all about you. Others were wrong as well. The sour grapes portion could easily apply to others who had an issue with AM as starter.I always said Martinez was going to get the nod, multiple times the whole summer AND I also later said the QB competition was BS toward the end of fall camp.
I was never a sour grape about Gebbia.. You really have it twisted, once again.
You must live in Lincoln and been able to go to practices, because all I could base my opinion on was a guy who had a good Spring Game against largely the second and third defenses. I've seen a lot of guys have really good Spring Games who hardly see the field in the fall. Case in point, Weinmaster. The coaches who watched practice every day said it was neck-and-neck and I didn't assume they were lying. Seasoned football fans know there is more than making all the throws to being a great QB. There are other important things like leadership, dealing with adversity, knowing the playbook, field and situational awareness, chemistry with teammates, and so on. AM is of course very good at all the above, but we didn't know that before some games were played.only because the board was full of idiots...any amateur football fan could see how talented Adrian was...

I thought Gebbia would get it on experience and arm talent. I had no way of seeing what AM was doing with his decision making and accuracy. It's not exactly crazy to fade a true freshman coming off shoulder surgery.Perhaps I am remembering incorrectly then. I don’t know. Just seems stuck in my memory that there were some posters on here who were convinced that since Gebbia was supposedly the better passer that he was going to (rightly) get the nod. And when he didn’t there was some ******** sour grapes on here about how Frost never intended to play Gebbia, that he knew Martinez would be the starter and so the whole “neck and neck “ competition was a sham. So yeah, the main accusation was “mismanagement” but with strong suggestions that Frost was a liar.
But like I said. Perhaps my memory is screwed up. I am 60 after all. Feeble.
AM was by far the best qb in the spring game and was the best and most accurate passer as well. What makes people think Gebbia has a better arm? I've certainly never seen it.I thought Gebbia would get it on experience and arm talent. I had no way of seeing what AM was doing with his decision making and accuracy. We've all seen "running QBs" who can't throw it in the ocean from a boat. All we heard was that AM was different as a runner compared to Gebbia. Well duh. We knew Gebbia was just servicable with his feet. We didn't know about AM's passing and hadn't seen him in a game.
Then you contrast NU's announcement with Bama and how Gebbia left town and the coaches were totally unprepared for it, that wasn't a hot start.
Once we got to see AM operate in real game action, it all made sense. But again, if you think Bunch was all we needed those starts he made, you're nuts. He was ineffective. It hurt not having Gebbia to finish the CU game and start until AM was healthy. Arguably cost them a bowl bid.
I don't remember people being upset UNTIL TG transferred. Then a few individuals went ballistic. It lasted most of the fall until we started winning and the team started looking like there was potential and AM & Co were showing the brilliance we're expecting for games to comeI agree that the "handling" rumor was nonsense too.
I remember people making an argument for TG over AM, but I dont remember there being a big stink once AM was announced over TG.
Trust the coaches. A lot of times they know and see more than ANY of us do. With this staff, ALL the time they do. They've got a plan and I trust it.You must live in Lincoln and been able to go to practices, because all I could base my opinion on was a guy who had a good Spring Game against largely the second and third defenses. A thread gets started to get everyone pumped and excited about the team and it turns into a food fight over who thought what about who should start at QB . . last year. More and more weirdness on this site everyday, and the off-season just began.
You are correct. I derailed this thread with my negative comments. My bad.

You don't understand and don't know the details of what happened between him and I. He didn't have to mention me. I was questioning the neck and neck QB battle openly, and he said Oh, you must be calling Scott a liar. I never said such a thing, but it got twisted really quickly. If this is not sarcasm then what in the hell are you smoking? The guy didn’t even mention you and you take it as an all out personal attack? Can we leave the snowflakes outside? They seem to meltdown quickly in here.
no, you brought up old stuff, then twisted it with a new idea, and then tried to wash your hands of it and say I dunno.. nice troll job, it worked. You are correct. I derailed this thread with my negative comments. My bad.

Actually, when I posted my comments in this thread I had nobody in particular in mind. I don’t remember this “history” between you and me, although if you say we had such an exchange then I guess we did. I really couldn’t care less though. I don’t take myself seriously on here nor anybody else. I don’t remember what you and I said to each other 6 months ago because I really don’t give a crap. I come on here for some light entertainment and the occasional nugget of information. That is all.You don't understand and don't know the details of what happened between him and I. Frankly, that is the problem with this board, it gets political really quick, and the amount of BS flung around here and what gets attributed to one poster or another can be so far from the truth, it feels like one has to defend themselves from it.
Okie dokieno, you brought up old stuff, then twisted it with a new idea, and then tried to wash your hands of it and say I dunno.. nice troll job, it worked.
But I want to tell you something.. There was never any real QB competition. He just kept saying they were neck and neck until he thought he was safe from a transfer, and didn't see the quarters transfer angle Gebbia was planning anyway.
So to use your own words, I will say it today, yeah, Frost lied.
Yes! That is something we can all agree on.In an effort to get us back on track here, I'm excited to hear that our QB is asserting his leadership skills in the offseason workouts. Here's to no more scrawny QBs!!!
I always marvel at someone remembering something I posted months or years ago. I'm having trouble remembering what I had for dinner last night.Actually, when I posted my comments in this thread I had nobody in particular in mind. Well said.Wrt the 2018 QB competition, if Gebbia knew it was a kabuki dance, then he certainly played along. He could have pulled the trigger much sooner and had a much larger menu of transfer options.
Nikki claims that Frost lied in terms of Gebbia vs AMart. Probably he was less than forthcoming. It's obvious that he had a favorite horse, given that Adrian's athleticism and skill level could really make the offense go. I wasn't at fall camp practices, but I could easily envision a situation where AMart was not a clear cut winner from practice to practice. Given that TG stuck around (and Frost was of the belief that TG was in it to win it, and would be a team guy if he didn't), it would be unfair to him to end the competition early.
I think Frost knew which way he was going some time before he made the call public, but waited to announce until the time he had stated much earlier in the process. Gebbia played the team first guy up until about 24 hours after the starter decision was made.
So both coach and player were probably less than forthcoming about their intentions.
No, those were Pennsy's words back then. He was all up in arms because I was saying was the QB competition was a ruse and bs. It was Pennsy that got all bent and accused me of calling Frost a liar. I'm only saying it now, just to try to get a rise out of him.Wrt the 2018 QB competition, if Gebbia knew it was a kabuki dance, then he certainly played along. Obviously it matters to him, as he mentions it again up in this thread. Only this time, he's saying it has something to do with sour grapes on Gebbia, which isn't accurate at all.
I don't care at all that Frost played Gebbia along.. he was supposed to do what he had to do to keep him here so we would have 2 viable options at QB, but mishandled the situation. I personally think Adrian was promised the starting job to get him to commit here. Gebbia might have stuck around if Frost had publicly "picked" Adrian as the starter after the spring game.
I might be wrong but was it not you that stated Gebbia was a punk and full of it. I think the gist was he was saying one thing but only for show. If not I apologize anyhow Gebbia obviously had back up plans and was discussing those with Oregon state before a starter was named. I really do not believe Frost would offer a starting position to any recruit before they step on the field especially one that was hurt his senior year. I think the competition was fair however the high skill set of Martinez probably had Frost leaning that way pretty early onNo, those were Pennsy's words back then. Is there anyone who believes that Gebbia could’ve had success running Frost’s offense??
