Probably...Does all but 3 power 5 teams need 2 loses for UCF to make the playoffs? NCAA football is the only competitive sport that playoff criteria is decided by opinions.
Nebraska fans don’t care.
The autonomous 5 should separate and begin a new division to stop all the distractions.
That isn’t true some of do care but until they let every Power 5 conference champion in the playoffs teams especially UCF will be getting screwed.. Like SF said we need to move forward to a 8 team playoff..
Or cut bait and create a new division, there are enough teams in the 5 to have a playoff....you can still play the OOC anyway with the other 60 odd teams
You know...if they did this and then ran a playoff format similar to the NFL it could be a pretty big deal. America loves football...we love playoffs...we love brackets and we love gambling.
Yep, the prime example of why UCF wont make the playoff. Not only does Nebraska not care, nobody besides a small area around Orlando cares about them. They need to get into a p5 to have a chance in hell to ever make it. Right now there are many factors why nobody wants to have them in their conference. 1 of the those reasons is low support/interest, even from their own fan base.Nebraska fans don’t care.
Hahaha!I would love it.
And it would give UCF a chance to get a NC in Div 1. And then we could all quit hearing about it.
This is probably their best shot.Or cut bait and create a new division, there are enough teams in the 5 to have a playoff....you can still play the OOC anyway with the other 60 odd teams

Hahaha!
I know what you mean...this "playoff talk for non P5 schools" was like the pot debate...Once it started getting legalized potheads had nothing left to talk about.
It's fun to laugh about this until you realize the special deal Notre Dame has/had...It will take a miracle. I'm sure a .500 Alabama team will still get a golden ticket.

What awesome, superior factors did Rutgers and Maryland have to get selected by the Big 10? It wasn't full stadiums or rabid fanbases. They, respectively, had approximately 40k and 30k at their last home games. They didn'the have much different attendance prior to being selected. The only thing they had was the good ole boy network from being around for the last 100 years. Even if their stadiums were completely full, they respectively hold 52k and 52k. Remember, our stadium was built in 2007 (44k), not 1957 or whatever year theirs were built in and then later expanded. We can expand our stadium to ~65k. So a difference in stadium size of 8k seats made their program at such a different level? What obvious advantages do they have that we don't? Is it the 1 conference co-championship Rutgers has had in well over 100 years? Or is it Maryland's 1 conference championship since 1985?Yep, the prime example of why UCF wont make the playoff. I agree with your Maryland and Rutgers argument. Along with interest, another thing is market. Can UCF bring in a new "market area" if it would join a conference. The only potentials in this area would be BIG10 or the BIG12. I believe the BIG12 is the best fit for UCF, but they turned you down already. The BIG10 would be the next option I think. Maybe if expansion took place again down the road it would happen. If it happens it would be years down the road. What awesome, superior factors did Rutgers and Maryland have to get selected by the Big 10? It wasn't full stadiums or rabid fanbases. Everybody keeps saying why don't we just join a P5 conference? Last time I checked nobody is accepting new members, so there is nothing we can do but keep collecting hardware as we are, and growing our brand. The #1 reason people don't want us in their conference is simple math....the pot of money everyone is currently making would be split amongst more programs, which means less money for each member. It has nothing to do with our athletics.

Big 12 is the best bet. I don't see the Big 10 taking UCF. The Florida market is tapped by UF, FSU, and Miami. Rutgers and Maryland while not world beaters are the flagship programs for their areas. Not to mention Rutgers played in the first football game ever. Sort of a feather in the cap of the Big10 if you will.
Big 12 is where UCF needs to get in. However if I was the B12 I would go get BYU and Boise state. Good football and they would bring some eyes in. I bet Idahoites would tune in en mass if Boise State got into the B12.
We were supposed to play Texas again in 2017. They bailed out of the contract so we had to schedule Maine instead. USF was supposed to play Mich State and Wisconsin in 2016 but those two programs bailed out, so they had to schedule schlubs. Nobody on tv is ever going to bring this kind of stuff up because it doesn't play to their narrative, and most elitest fans don't know this happens pretty regularly. I wouldn't doubt if we played SC State because somebody bailed on us, but maybe not. We've stopped signing those kinds of contracts so teams can't duck us, and actually have to play true home-and-homes. It's also very hard to fill those schedule gaps once they exist. That's why we have future home/home games with Loserville, UNC, Pitt, and GA Tech. They will actually do it. Stanford actually signed a true home and home as well. We played there in 2015 (btw, if you ever get the chance to play them it is a great away game to attend), and they play at our place next season. We've recently played @Ohio State, @Michigan, @Penn State. You think we got a home game back?....nope.UCF has no one to blame but themselves. They could get in as an undefeated. However, they have South Carolina State on the schedule. If a non Power 5 team is really serious about trying to make the playoff, they would not schedule an FCS team. The rest of their non conference schedule is about as good as their conference schedule, which is pathetic. Play the big boys, beat the big boys, get in.

Teams like Clemson, FSU, Michigan, Ohio State, etc... will almost never sign true home and homes with us (or anybody). In 2016 Michigan played 8 home games. They'll want us to play at their place, then instead of our home game play a neutral site game or buy us out. If they lost to us the media doesn't see it as a quality loss. If those kinds of programs play each other, as they often do, in neutral site games, they know a loss is glossed over by the pundits as a quality loss. It protects their brand. For example, Bama hasn't played a true away OOC game since 2011. Why? Because why risk it when you always get the benefit of the doubt.
How come Nebraska's 2018 OOC schedule consisted of three home games against Akron (never giving them a home game), Colorado, and Troy (never giving them a home game)? At least when we play schools like FAU and FIU we play at their places as well.
You guys played NIU last year, and three times in the future. How come all four games are being played in Nebraska?
We don't want to play FCS schools but in order to have six home games you just can't always find FBS teams to play home-and-homes, so you have to go to FCS schools to get that done, and no FBS schools are going to play at FCS schools.
Btw, we basically scheduled two additional FCS opponents this year named Pitt and UNC. Unfortunately, a hurricane kept us from laying a beat-down on UNC (East Carolina beat them 39-10). When we signed those games up 4-5 years ago you can't predict what they will be in any specific future year.
Just check out this clip. Pitt did this all game long....amazingly, their offensive players never cramped up. You will laugh when you see this.
I would love it.

Have you guys seen UCF's TV ratings?Yep, the prime example of why UCF wont make the playoff. Not only does Nebraska not care, nobody besides a small area around Orlando cares about them.
You're trying to gauge UCF's TV ratings by looking at the kickoff-time crowd? They need to get into a p5 to have a chance in hell to ever make it. Right now there are many factors why nobody wants to have them in their conference. 1 of the those reasons is low support/interest, even from their own fan base.
Have you guys seen UCF's TV ratings?
In 2013, it was good enough to best the Big XII median.
In 2018, only Oklahoma and Texas have better.
This is exactly why the arrogance and ignorance of UCF is getting to a lot of people. UCF has a huge fanbase, not only much, much bigger than Boise State nationally, but bigger than half the P5 now.
You're trying to gauge UCF's TV ratings by looking at the kickoff-time crowd?
You do understand UCF allows drinking right up to kickoff, and people usually don't file in until the 1st quarter, correct? Also keep in mind that Orlando has a lot of distractions, unlike a lot of other areas.
Miami has the same problem ... and UCF passed Miami as the #3 fanbase in the state late last decade, and even Miami athletics admitted this by 2015. Miami is a perfect example of P5s that are being overtaken by UCF in fanbase size.
The TV numbers don't lie. And UCF is in a huge TV market.
The only reason the P5s aren't expanding is because ESPN is offering no more money in new contracts. No one would take even a G5 with superior TV numbers like UCF, when it will just dilute the existing pool of money in the existing contract.

The Big Ten plays 9 conference games, so 4 home/5 away one year and 5 home/4 away the next year. For most major programs to keep their budget in order (plus with pressure from local fans and businesses), they need 7 home games. This season, Nebraska is in a 4H/5A conference schedule, hence 3 home games in the non-conference. It has been NU's MO for a while to schedule one P5 team for a given two-year cycle that aligns with the conference home/away cycle to get to 7 home games, then two other home games. We don't want to play FCS schools but in order to have six home games you just can't always find FBS teams to play home-and-homes, so you have to go to FCS schools to get that done, and no FBS schools are going to play at FCS schools
There was a game scheduled to be played in Chicago with Northern Illinois as a NU "away" game, but was cancelled. You guys played NIU last year, and three times in the future. How come all four games are being played in Nebraska?
Wait?! You guys start a thread on UCF, and then say no one cares about UCF, and the TV ratings say otherwise (and have since starting late last decade, and are even higher the last 5 years), and you post this in response?
They have NO chance. Sagarin has them rated at 29th right now...and the committee uses computer models to inform on strength of schedule and head to head calculations. Basically they have no better chance than North Dakota st...in fact North Dakota state has a better chance. Both have extremely poor strength of schedule...like the worst, and both are undefeated. Those with the power think that 30 teams could also finish undefeated with their schedule. And that is probably a low estimate. I mean how many times would Bo teams have been in the playoff with an UCF schedule. Hopefully this attention gets them into the ACC or a power 5 conference, that would be fun.
The same tired, uninformed, elitest argument that is always used....
If Nebraska is playing UCF's schedule you also get to have UCF's budget and recruiting perception. If we played your schedule we get to have your budget and recruiting perception.
We also can't help that the mighty P5 programs we scheduled this year, UNC and Pitt....both suck ballz. At least we punked Pitt unlike Notre Dame.
SOS is a lot of opinion until the season is over because you have to see how everybody actually finishes. Boy, that touted Ohio State win over TCU now looks like just a meh win. As another example, when the season is over Clemson will have a really good chance of not having played a single ranked team based on final rankings....none. Why? Just an odd year where pretty much Clemson is dominant and the rest of the league is average to poor. I guess we'll have to just wait and see if some other ACC team from the coastal division gets hot. You know, Pitt still controls their own destiny at this point...
There is a definite pecking order with recruiting. Even schools like Vandy, Kentucky, Kansas, etc... routinely have better rated recruiting classes than us. I don't know why so many kids are stuck with the mindset that if you're not in a P5 program you can't succeed. If you're good the NFL will find you. I think we have 7 guys off last year's team on NFL rosters. Our backup TE from last year even got called up and had a catch for Cincy yesterday.

NY Times, USA Today and even ESPN itself (although not lately, as the AAC is in contract negotiations with ESPN) have covered this. ESPN makes over 1,000% more margin on UCF than most P5 conference medians.
That's why UCF has a bargaining chip any time a TV deal comes up ... just like when the Big East's did nearly a decade ago. Unfortunately for UCF, no P5 has a deal coming up for another 5 years. So it's stuck in the AAC.
But the TV numbers don't lie. Advertisers do care. UCF is ESPN's greatest margin, by far, by an order of magnitude over most P5 programs.
