In terms of Brohm, pretty weak. His passive aggressive comment as he's walking away was skim milk too. Grow up and act like you've been there before. Oh wait...
Who made the comment? Brohm or the Purdue player walking by?

EVERY Coach and Player should go into EVERY game they put on a uniform thinking its a "winnable" game.

Just like in Braveheart..."we didn't get dressed up for nothin'"

I still don't get this mentality. He was literally just stating a fact.

That his players had NO SHOT to be competitive vs Michigan?? Because that's exactly what he said by stating this RIGHT after that game.

Heck, SMU, with a true Freshman QB off the bench was "competitive" vs Michigan (was just a 2 score game till 8 mins left in the game...when Freshmen QB was knocked out of the game...and Michigan scored 10 pts in garbage time to win by 25 at the big house).

How do you think Army took Oklahoma into OT?

How do you think winless ODU, who got BLOWN out by Liberty, could beat then #12 Va Tech?

Nothing is EVER gained by having a defeatist attitude...and while the odds of success might be small in some games...as long as you have belief its POSSIBLE...strange thing is...sometimes it becomes TRUE.

This. Not sure why Nebraska fans have had such a hard time understanding that the context, and not the statement taken out of context, made it disrespectful.
Because it is obvious that the context is that we have similar talent levels to Purdue. The main difference is that Purdue isn't in the first year of the rebuild and have an experienced QB. Similar talent means it should be a winnable game. His statement was completely factual. Nothing more and no disrespect was meant. I guess when you've been a bottom feeder virtually your entire existence one is easily offended. NU AND Purdue don't have similar talent to MI. That doesn't mean Purdue can't Michigan.

And that same type of thinking process "thought" Nebraska had WAY MORE talent than Troy....just another example that you NEVER let thoughts like that get into your game plan and/or even to your players and other coaches.

No need to go overboard the other way either though… I know the players shouldn’t take any team lightly, same of the coaches, as we see upsets all the time. But you don’t want to instill in your team that they are so fragile they could lose at any moment. Frost is trying to change that sentiment. Even though it is currently true.

FWIW, several Purdue fans on our premium board (probably more than half that weighed in on it) thought it was poor sportsmanship on the part of Jones (player #8 who was the one who said it, not Brohm).

Regarding whether it was disrespectful or not to refer to it as a winnable game, I think the answer tends to vary with the age of the person responding. I'm in my 40's and thought nothing of it. Frost and Nebraska should look at it as a winnable game. Actually, he should look at every game as winnable which is maybe the distinction that created the "disrespect" in the minds of players and younger fans it seems. We live in a completely different society than we did even 20 years ago. Everyone is looking for any chance to be insulted or offended. Playing the victim has become the cool thing to do. It seems like the younger crowd has grown up in this environment and can look at such an innocuous reference and be disrespected by it.

Now did Brohm use it to try to motivate the team? I'm sure. He wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't take whatever he could find and try to use it to his advantage. I suspect he's also had a conversation with the player in question this week to let him know that he was out of line and was bush league in how he handled it.

BTW, there were also many comments on our boards about how great a visit it was to Lincoln and how great your fans are. I remember one comment from a fan saying he first thought he was being punked because Nebraska fans are so much more welcoming than virtually anywhere else you visit. After the first half dozen or so comments welcoming him, he realized that's just how your fans are. Frankly, that is the best compliment anyone can pay a fan base in my opinion.

Good luck with the rest of the season and with Frost as he rebuilds your program. We have had several rough seasons since you joined the Big Ten but we haven't exactly been the bottom feeder historically that Hazell made us into. More middle-of-the-pack with several good offenses and a good tradition of pro quarterbacks if you look back over time. I hope that we have several good, meaningful games between us in the near future.

Agree with you on this one. Rational fans think nothing of what Frost said in the presser. Regardless of how it was perceived, he meant no disrespect and was actually trying to boost the confidence of his team and fan base. Frost has done nothing to earn a bad reputation. And I'm sure Brohm was just using it for motivational purposes. To come back and make those comments after the game, if that's what Jones did, was bad sportsmanship.

Like your post.!!! The way a lot of teams and their players act sportsmanship went out the window 25 years ago. You used to see opponents Help each other off the turf after some plays, now it who can talk more smack. Hopefully you guys can hold on to your coach he sure has changed Purdue in the position way.

I thought Brohm handled it well publicly. Brohm and Frost are two talented young coaches with a lot of mutual respect.

I know many think it is overblown but there is no reason to give an opposing team any extra motivation in the week prior to the game

Who cares...at this point winning is not the ultimate goal. If we only beat Purdue because they were unmotivated then all of our flaws would be covered by beating a bad unmotivated team. If we can't beat a "motivated" purdue team, then we are pathetic, and we are pathetic, and every knows it. So we go back to work until we can beat motivated teams. That is why the bluster is smart. Frost should come out every week and say he wants to kill the other team, he should WANT to get the best from the opponent. Because when he wins, he knew he took their best shot. You guys put way to much emphasis on winning inconsequential games. Right now it is better to lose and realize we are totally flawed, than win close games against bad teams. This is Frosts opportunity to get the kinks out of his own coaching, and giving bulletin board material is not one of his kinks. The best bulletin board material will be when we are undefeated and going into an opponent's house 5 years from now. At that time everyone will be gunning to beat us...this bulletin board crap is made up and silly, if it matters, good..we got Purdue's best, and that will make us better. Those of us who have competed athletically never wanted our opponent injured, weakened, or demotivated just to "win"...that weakened the competition and made the goal less sweet.

Honestly though, Frost needs to keep his mouth shut. Act like you’ve been there before
Maybe tell your players in private. Why give ANY opposing team ANY bulletin board material. Yes, it probably doesn’t make much of a difference.

Most games are “winnable.” Don’t say anything. That’s an inferiority complex and says that “yeah we suck. Some games aren’t winnable, but this one is.” Head scratcher there. Put your head down CSF and work on winning games not telling everyone that they are winnable. What exactly does his statement mean? Sounds like a coach feeling pressure and feels the need to say this crap.

You’re a bulkhead aren’t you? Just admit it.
Waiting for your origin story. Teed it up for you in the other thread. Why were you on a UCF board a year ago (you said as much in your post) following Scott Frost but didn’t join this husker site until September 11 this year?

If you are legitimate, your story will back you up.

First of all, I have been a member here for about 10-12 months. I just didn’t post. Old School AOL sucked, so I changed to gmail, your joining date changes, but whatever.

Secondarily, I visited the UCF site, but never posted there.

Not sure why I need to explain this since I’m just here to read and discuss Husker football and have done nothing but unless attacked

Problem is everyone is so freaking touchy and sensitive right now. Understandable. However, I’m not going to be a blind and delusional homer. If we start winning I’ll tell it like it is. Just like I am now

Everyone is a Troll now I get it. Move on already

GBR!

Dude, we have safe spaces, and people offing themselves because of cyber bullying. Not real bullying like getting slapped around on the daily by someone in person..something u can actually turn off or go somewhere else to avoid it.

So yeah the world has changed and if u dont think what Frost did was dumb, then i dont know what to yell ya.

There is a reason there is a thing called "coach speak" there is a reason all coaches talk and use it. As a coach u dont want to give another team ANY extra anything to try and beat u. SF screwed up period.

He has done this a few times this yr already. Hopefully he stops doing it.

Actually it was bad sportsmanship the context in which Frost used the term and how he used it. I know its vogue to try and defend everything SF does even to a fault.. but Frost should have NEVER said it in the context he did. He screwed up period.

An adult should know better than a kid what is right and wrong. Frost should have never made the comment and hopefully Frost heard the kid or has seen the vid so that he thinks twice in the future about making dumb comments which is something he has already done a few times this yr. He needs to stop cause it is not helping.

Not sure whats strange about it. Unless u find facts strange?
Here’s what’s strange about it. If Frost doesn’t say what he said, do we beat Purdue then? If the answer is uncertain or no, then just because Scott said it doesn’t make it a fact that it was enough motivation that propelled Purdue to a victory.

Cant answer that, what I can say is that Purdue did use it as extra motivation to beat us.

Part of A coaches job is to provide zero or as little extra motivation to beat u as possible. That is why they invented coach speak and that is the reason most all coaches use coachspeak even Saban. And if there was any guy who could prob throw coachspeak out the window and say "yeah we gonna win this week" its him, but he doesnt.

Also dont forget in addition to extra motivation it gives purdue, it puts more pressure on NU players to win or expecting to win..now is that something u want to put on THIS NU team?

No. So we got the doyble whammy w his comment. Pur had extra motivatio, our players had extra pressure..

Not a good combo..

I hear why you are saying and don’t disagree with you per se. I agree the best course is not to give them anything, nothing they can put on the “bulletin board.”

That said, I am still somewhat surprised that this simple comment got so much play. That’s all I’m saying.

Well it probably got more play than it normally would have because of that video of the pur player throwing it back at frost after the game.
