There are two posters here that have an extreme hatred for anything with the word Hawk in it and SOHusker is one of them. It’s to be expected and I’m ok with it. As with most fan bases, the majority of fans are ones you can have a conversation with.

As to where the conversation went after my post, I’m sorry Boiler but Purdue probably won’t be anywhere near Nebraska in 2020. Brohm will more than likely leave by then but Frost isn’t going anywhere.
Could you explain why you think Brohm is gone by 2020? What does Purdue not have that is the reason he will leave?

Didn't he go after the Tennessee job pretty hard last year?
Some say they never offered and he says he just rode it out because it had great recruiting implications for Purdue. I don't think he ever seriously talked to them though. The media blew it up before there was ever anything.

IF I were Brohm I would stay at Purdue. It's a good fit for him with a decent contract and realistic expectations. He could be a hero there if he kept them bowl eligible every year and a top 2 or 3 finish in the west every now and then.

Why would he leave? Purdue is a pretty good job to have as a football coach now and he is proving that he can recruit at a high enough level to have enough talent to compete for the big ten west and championship. Unless someone like Notre Dame or OSU comes calling, it's probably going to be a lateral move.

He doesn’t have any ties to Purdue does he? I see him in the same mold as Matt Campbell at ISU. Brohm has as good a chance at being in Louisville in 2020 as he does Purdue. IMO.

Except for the fact that Purdue is a better program than Louisville right now. Litterally the only thing Louisville has on Purdue for Brohm is that Brohm went there. Purdue is beating them in basically every other catagory at the moment imo. Plus Brohm is young, so he has plenty of time to get there. I don't think he's in a hurry. He's happy at Purdue. That is a known fact. Purdue is giving everything Brohm wants and needs to be successful.

Purdue is not currently a better program than Louisville. You asked me earlier what Louisville has over Purdue and my number one answer is “fans”. Purdue has 47,000 fans show up against a ranked opponent. (Almost as much red as black: http://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=401013119 scroll down for a picture of the game). Louisville has 54,000 show up against Western Kentucky. Louisville has been pretty consistent this decade and Purdue has been, well, Purdue. Louisville is also two years removed from having a Heisman Trophy winner.

Purdue also isn't the same program or athletic department it was two years ago. Purdue has some of the nicest facilities in the big ten, has invested over 100 million in the last two years, is paying Jeff Brohm good money, is planning more investments this next off-season, and about to announce a project to their stadium that will be worth at least 100 mil I'd say, the original was 150 mil. They are scaling it back to build it sooner. Plus Brohm currently has the #24 recruiting class with more 4 star guys potentially coming.
In order for Louisville to hire him this next off-season, they would have to pay petrino 12 mil to go away, then likely pay Brohm a 4.5-5 mil salary along with that same money in his assistant coach pool. That's assuming Purdue wouldn't match what they offered to keep him, which I think Purdue would match.
All that goes with a university remodel to the tune of approximately 2.2 billion I believe. This has all started in the last 2ish years. So not the same. Oh, and the Purdue fans are coming. Takes a bit to recover from not having a football program for four years.

As for Louisville, their athletic department is a mess. Why would anyone want to be a part of it? They just lost? a huge done in papa John and they don't get big ten money. Plus their path to the playoff is much more difficult. They get Clemson in their division. Purdue has beatable teams.

Another reason Purdue is appealing to Brohm. He was a QB and Purdue is known as the Cradle of Quarterbacks.

Sure, that makes good sense to me. He's got a good deal at Purdue and they'll appreciate his hard work. Good chance it'll be a win/win scenario for both Purdue & Brohm.

Except that’s not how big time college coaches opperate. People said similar things about; Scott Frost, Chris Petersen, Tom Herman, Kevin Sumlin, Charlie Strong, etc, etc. These guys aren’t looking to take it easy and be comfortable, they want to win big at the highest level.

Can Brohm not win big ten championships at Purdue? I certainly think he can. He has the resources and is recruiting to do it. It's also a known fact that Brohm isn't a fan of job hopping and he doesn't want to go far from Louisville. Plus he's making good money at Purdue.

I think if the money were equal, the win total wouldn't matter as much. Personally I would take a lower stress level and more job security of a Purdue job versus the crap some of the jobs entail. Purdue has just as much chance of being successful at a high level as Iowa does and maybe more as long as Brohm is there.

I understand that, but that just isn’t how these guys operate, look at the list I provided. Guys like Chris Petersen, Tom Herrmann and Scott Frost had it on auto-pilot and still bolted for the chance to win titles. And I’m not talking about a job like Iowa, Iowa sucks and would be a lateral move. But if a Tennessee, Texas A&M, Florida came knocking he would bolt (I used last years openings, because who knows that will be open this year).

Scott Frost left a non P5 school, so I'm not sure he's a good example. But is Florida and Tennessee good jobs right now? If so, what makes them such good jobs?

Are Tennessee and Florida better jobs than Purdue? They are great jobs. Recruiting hot beads, massive resources, tradition, etc. They have their problems, mostly in the AD's office for both. But yes, they are big time great jobs, especially Florida.

Haha didn't even notice. Must be scared that Brohm and Frost are going to build something at their schools while he is stuck with ferentz as a coach.
Why do screen names matter? Can’t people just have some good conversation without worrying about who we root for? And no, I’m not worried about Frost or Brohm taking over the division.

Hawkeyes and their fans aren't afraid of any team. They may lose 4 or 5 a year but they weren't afraid of them. It's how they can manage to beat teams that on paper they shouldnt. (See OSU last year) It's the one thing missing from our program for quite sometime. We on the other hand have a thread suggesting (foolishly) to forfeit two "unwinnable" games and posters questioning why the line of 3 at home isn't higher.

They ALL left for significantly more (millions) more dollars. You can say it's because they want to win championships and that's always one of their excuses but its ALWAYs about the money. If the money was equal and they were happy with their bosses, most would never leave to just to play for a championship. Unlike a pro ring, these guys are still trying to accumulate enough money to live as well as they can and job security, if the money is equal, becomes much more important. Ask a government employee who could double their pay in the private sector why they stay where they're at.

In order to be worried you have to win the division more than once every decade. Until proven otherwise, everyone else in the West is Wisconsin's *****.

I don't know if he would or not. I would because at Florida you're likely to get your brains beat out in the SEC and be out of a job in 3 years because of booster pressure. At Purdue he can probably win the same number of games and they'll build him a statue. It's simple economics. IF you take the Florida job you're banking on the time value of money if the contract is bigger. BUT....you may be back somewhere else as an OC in 3-4 years. I guess I don't study stadiums and facilities but I read an article a while back and it said that actually schools like FU and FSU have lagged considerably in the arms race.

At Florida you can win championships and become a star like Myer and Spurrier. I think a confident coach, like they all are, takes it every time, as history shows. I think that's a bigger lure than hey I can win 7 games a year and not get fired.

Don't sleep on how much alma maters mean to people. Personally, I don't think Petrino is going anywhere for awhile, but the way CFB is, I wouldn't be surprised to see a major school open up in the next two years and Brohm move up to the big leagues. He's a great coach, and he has Purdue worth talking about now, but it will be a stepping stone if something major opens up and he is offered the job. He'd be scary good with a team chalked full of talent like he would get at a major school. Dude is a stud.

It's also known that Brohm is unlikely to leave the Midwest though. So that helps Purdue out. Also, why can't he recruit a team full of talent at Purdue? Have all that talent and an easy path to the big ten championship. Top notch facilities. Anice pay check. What more could you want.

Purdue is a great school, and I used to love going to their campus , but I just don't see Purdue ever becoming a power. They are taking all of the steps to try, and maybe it could happen??? Weirder things have happened though. For me it would be like Nebraska becoming consistently good at basketball. I just don't see it for the long term.

I'm not arguing they would be a power. To me, the powers of the big ten are OSU, Penn State, and MSU. I do think Purdue and Nebraska, for the sake of conversation, can become consistent 8-10 win teams that every few years make a push for the west division championship.

I wear very rose colored glasses, but if Wisconsin can be a power in the Big 10, I think Nebraska can work its way back. I think Frost is the guy to do it, but time will tell. Because of us being known as a football school, I think we will always do anything we can to get back on top and challenge for Big 10 titles every year, which would put us in the conversation for other things.

Purdue is a better team than Minnesota. For the Huskers to be bowl eligible is razor thin.

The Huskers won't be bowl eligible this season.
Lets be realistic! After Akron was cancelled and we lost to Troy (and never led once in the game), you had to know this was not a bowl-bound team. Every one of the B1G teams we play would beat Troy (Illinois debatable). Any coaching staff with a pulse knows how to beat us - put 8/9 in the box and dare us to beat them with the pass - knowing they can get to our QB before he can get a read downfield. Any more than 3 wins with the OL we have, new system, freshman QB, would be an amazing feat.

With our OLine, possibly even a competent, experienced senior qb wouldn't help much.

IF the money is the same, I would stay at Purdue but then I don't have the ego of a D-1 college head coach so who knows. I'm old and have dozens of years of experience and for me work stress from other people who held power over me was the worst. Thankfully that ended 30 years ago. From everything I've heard Florida boosters are some of the worst right up their with Texas.
