Fine, it is easy to be holier than thou and show people the door, many up, what ever you want to call it. It doesn't matter to me. I read the crap on here and people dance ll around things and want it to be the way they think they see it. Reality is always perfect in our own heads.
The team has turned over at a major rate, probably faster than anyone could have imagined. So did that help? Ask yourself that? Is it better because of it?
The snowflake syndrome (your words not mine) was most likely gone in the purging that took place in the program. The other argument is that "we have the talent" to win. Well, if that is the case, then why aren't we winning? So it is easy to throw this all on the players while I don't hear anyone saying some coaches have some skin in the game. It is always the players quit, never had the buy in, weren't mentally strong, etc, etc. Isn't some of that the responsibility of the coaches?
There are some reasons for this pathetic display of football we have seen. I don't claim to know all of them, the dynamics in a situation like this are not usually simple and myopic. One thing seems hard to dodge, this team my actually be worse than last year's team. You know, the one you said was coached by the coaches who "really sucked." Certainly they weren't all stars, but they were men that had relationships with players as men.
I stand by my statement that Frost has not attained "great" status. That is reserved for the Osbornes, Sabans, Bear Bryant, Bobby Bowden, and others. He is young and has plenty of time to earn the credentials that go along with the acclaim. I am not down on Frost at all, it would be interesting to hear him 20 years from now talk about this year of struggles that he and the program are not accustomed to.
Awesome post. Huge thumbs up!I have no desire to argue semantics with you. You seem fixated on the fact that I called Frost a "great" coach. Fine. Let's revise that and say I think he is a "great and promising young coach with a huge upside in his potential". Is that better? My main point is a simple one: we are lucky to have him. Do you disagree? Do you think he is an overhyped coach? Do you think he should be on the hot seat already? Do you think he is a bad coach? Are you glad he is our coach or do you prefer someone else? Do you think he will turn us around?
Yes, we are worse than last year. But we were a 4-8 team last year (and could have easily been 2-10) on a clear downward trajectory - - as in roller coaster going 90 mph downhill kind of trajectory. My suspicion is that this year would have been more of the same and even worse had Riley stayed. And we are installing new schemes on both sides of the ball and have a completely new coaching staff. So yeah... we have issues. Big ones. Issues that not even Frost can change over night. Or do you disagree? You will probably say "I was not expecting miracles, but this shitfest of horrible football is on the current coaches". I disagree. Old habits die hard and cannot be fixed in 8 months. There is a reason why many on here blabber endlessly about how important player development is. And it is. But player development takes years inside of a stable program with a system players have been recruited to and have played within for years. That is why experience matters and teams don't start 22 freshman. These players were, for the most part, developed under Guy Smiley. And it shows. Frost needs time but some of you already have the pitchforks out for him. My goodness.
I guess that means I have a man crush on Frost? Because I cannot believe the level of anger being directed at him by some on here three games in?? Because I defend him vigorously against the vapid stupidity of posters like NikkiSix and Oldjar?? Do you support their views then? Do you think fans should be highly critical of Frost and that we need to start demanding wholesale changes in the program already? Fire Chinander! Run the damn ball! Bring back the fullback! Revamp how you practice! Toss out the UCF blueprint because it isn't working here!
Frost inherited a dumpster fire. Do you dispute this?? Do you think Riley left the program in good shape? If so, why was he fired? You say all of the "bad attitude" guys left after the initial purge. Probably not. Sometimes upper classmen stick around because they don't want to transfer this late in the game and are already kind of sick of football and are just hanging around to keep their scholarship and to finish school. And if it is true, as you claim, that some of these guys are pissed at Frost for his comments about the previous staff, then you just contradicted yourself. Because if that is true, then it means the guys who still have not bought into Frost are still here. So which is it? All the bad attitude guys are already gone so there is no way this current situation is being caused by disgruntled players and it is all on the coaches? Or... There are still lots of bad attitude guys here and it is Frost's fault for bungling his comments about the previous staff? Either way, it seems to me, you just want to blame Frost. Never, in the history of college football, has a coach who went on to be a great coach, had a really bad start I guess. Not.
I don't necessarily agree that it is a good thing that Frost criticized the previous staff. Probably a bad call on his part. But hey, as I said, they DID deserve it. They were awful. And any player who likes the new staff and has bought into their project would just shrug it off and move on. They would understand the emotion and the context of the situation. They would understand why their new coach would say such things even if they did not like it. They would be mature team players and take it in stride. But any player that would get pissed at that and develop disgruntled feelings toward Frost that would then cause them to practice less hard and to play with less motivation, needs to get a grip or move on. I stand by that. This is big boy football. Quit being a ***** and play football.
Finally, I am sorry if my vigorous defense of Frost has put some people off. But I am just dumbstruck how we have gone from farting pixie dust and rainbows as we floated on clouds after the Frost hire, to the pitchfork brigade in about 10 months. Most of the criticisms of him on here have been unfair and ignorant. And trust me... I AM AS PISSED AND DISAPPOINTED AS ANYONE ON HERE by the shitfest I am witnessing on the field right now. I expected more. I expected better. I expected a faster turn around. I thought we would be 8-4 this year. Much more competitive. So trust me when I tell you I do not have blinders on. I see this dumpster fire just as clearly as anyone. And it pisses me off as much as anyone.
I love Husker football. I bleed it. I grew up in Lincoln. Sold coke in the stands as a boy. Was in Norman in 71. I am not saying I am a super fan. Lots on here are. What I am saying is that I share your standards for Husker football and I am as disappointed as anyone. I do not have a "man crush" on Frost. I just don't like seeing him attacked on here by armchair coaches who don't have a clue.
But we had better rally behind Frost because he is not going anywhere. He is going to be our coach for many years to come. And we are now in coach number 5 post Osborne. Our program has never been lower in the modern era than it is now. If we all start to gang up on Frost and become bitter and angry at him after three games, we are in a world of hurt. We either give this guy time and the benefit of the doubt or we can move on to yet another coach. Here is my view: Scott Frost is our last best hope to save this program from oblivion. We are on a fast track to becoming like Kansas. So we had better rally around this guy and give him the time he needs, or we are most likely just ****ed.
Thanks. I know it is a long post. Ha. I usually don't read those. But I felt the need to lay the issues out clearly. I am glad you agree with my analysis.Awesome post. Huge thumbs up!

Bingo! His miracle turnaround of UCF caused all kinds of unreasonable expectations. Maybe even with Frost himself! So yeah... we need patience.Good post.
I agree ... Frost is the coach and will be the coach for the foreseeable future.
I find the massive pivot in the narrative between the 9 months prior to the season and now interesting. Had anyone posted in July that Frost might only win 3 or 4 games this season and that we might be underdogs to Purdue that would have elicited an equally passionate response.
Perhaps the take away is that after pounding our chests all summer and putting the conference on notice that none us know what the hell we are talking about. We should probably just check back in after year 3 and hope there has been sufficient improvement because at this point none of us know how things are going to look 5 years down the road.
Not certain. Ask TruHusker to link to them since he raised the issue. I think he is correct though. I think Frost has said some things about the previous staff. Nothing outrageous, but he has taken some digs. I just don't know where to go to find those comments.Where can I find these comments?
You really need to stop with the man crush you have on Frost right now. A coach NEVER talks down on the previous staff anytime. Not only is it petty, it also gives the team a built in excuse for failure. That's a massive blunder by him, I don't care how great or pathetic the staff was, you worry about what you and your staff are doing. He needs to look in the mirror and man up, take the blame and move on.
Bingo! His miracle turnaround of UCF caused all kinds of unreasonable expectations. Maybe even with Frost himself! So yeah... we need patience.
The key word is patience. Personally, I thought Nebraska would be 3-1 at this point, possible 2-2. But, it is what it is. They just need to work through it the best they can. I still trust Frost & his staff, it will just take time.Too many people imagined that Frost was bringing UCF team with him and the reality is he has Riley players and one year of Pelini recruits.
As hard as it for myself alone that the word patience means it’s going to take time and more time than I anticipated when Moos hired Frost but we must stay the course, right now this program has hit rock bottom..
SF and the staff need a few years to recruit and build this program back to being a football powerhouse again..
Purdue seemed to have found it last week. They’re defense looked really good against one of the best RB in the country. They’re loss against EMU was bad but they played pretty well in general against pretty decent teams in Nw and Missouri. They’re 3 losses are only by a combined 8 pts. If the defense doesn’t come to play on Saturday it could be a long afternoonIf we lose to Purdue, I really am going to begin to worry about only winning 1 or 2 games this season. I've watched them play a couple times and they are not good. Outside of the freshman that is a stud, I was not impressed at all. I know they did beat BC this weekend, so maybe they have improved, but I just didn't see it in the games I saw.
I do not agree. Purdue's first three games were full of turnovers and incredibly dumb personal fouls. They lost the first three games by a total of 8 points and all three went down to the final minute. With all that baggage, they were only seven point dogs to a 3-0 top-25 BC.If we lose to Purdue, I really am going to begin to worry about only winning 1 or 2 games this season. Lose this game and we may not win ANY games this year. Bethune Cookman is no joke.![]()
Bingo. But we are absolutely still vulnerable to crapping the bed on any given week. Very young and still flushing Hazell (worst in 100 years) issues through the system. I'll be there Sat to enjoy your pageantry and notable hospitality since I married into husker nationI do not agree. Purdue totally dominated BC. That 30-13 score is deceptive because it was 30-7 until the final minute of the game when BC scored on Purdue's second team defense. Right now Purdue is playing pretty good football.

Gotta love Brohm’s class too in not making a big deal out of Frost saying the Purdue game is winnable for us.Brohm did a amazing job last year in his 1st year. Previous 3 years yielded a total of 8 wins and in the previous 4 years Purdue only won 3 conference games. Brohm won 7 total and 4 conf games in his first year. Off to a rough start in year 2 however.

Exactly. Once again, people are nitpicking at something Frost said in order to find faultMaybe because it's not a big deal. It's not even a little deal.
Exactly. Once again, people are nitpicking at something Frost said in order to find fault
Understood. Was not criticizing you in the slightest. It was newsworthy.I did not criticize Frost for this - just posted Brohm’s remarks for informational purposes.
8 of top 12 defenders graduated. That simple. And the guy who won a 12 month QB competition chucked 3 picks in the opening half of the season opener. Neither does well looking over their shoulder. Someone has to be injured for the other to perform well. We might beat you by 21, or lose by it. At least the program trajectory is upward. I suspect you'll be saying the same before your 2019 opener.Brohm did a amazing job last year in his 1st year. Previous 3 years yielded a total of 8 wins and in the previous 4 years Purdue only won 3 conference games. Brohm won 7 total and 4 conf games in his first year. I wouldn’t be so fast to talk so arrogantly. I know I ... on the one hand don’t think Nebraska is as good as ANY of the people who thought frost would show up and let the 94 huskers out of a trap door (and we have plenty of those people on GBI), but I also know they are a team with some athletes who could do some things with confidence.
What you think you see in purdue is a team that replaced their whole front 7, which included two DEs with no burst .. one a hazell recruit, the other a two star that Brohm took in the weeks after he took the job.. a two star likely headed to be a pretty athletic DT as time goes on. They just moved a bigger LB to DE and he showed up huge on Saturday. Additionally Cornell Jones and Anthony Watts have made massive strides at LB and DT respectively.
Additionally you saw the coaches having to choose between two untested yet more talented CBs in freshmen Mackey and major or two hazell seniors who have experience and no talent in Cason and Blackmon. It appears that Mackey and majors have finally won out and stabilized corner.
And then you saw a team that lost two senior outside receivers and had to break in two JUCO seniors who didn’t do much last year :.. those two came up huge against BC and were looking much better against Missouri .. a team that we lost to by three .. that I can’t see the Nebraska team I’ve seen so far only losing to by three.
In short you’ve seen a team that only played bad enough to lose to Nebraska against EMU.. and if we play like that and coach not to lose (ironically exactly how Brohm coached down the stretch last year) Nebraska can embarrass us.. they have the athletes to do so..
But cut this “we are Nebraska” arrogant routine where you sound like Notre Dame fans sounded when they were actually in their glory days ...
So long as the boilers don’t play bad enough to lose recruits (and they haven’t yet) and if even half the recruits show up as advertised and Brohm gets as much as he’s gotten so far... this Purdue team will be good enough on day one of next year to go toe to toe with Nebraska IF YOU DO EVERYTHING ABSOLUTELY RIGHT from here till September...
Eric crouch and roger Craig can’t save you... this team right now has to come out and play well enough to win..
He's getting awefuly repetitive. Bro did you know Frost wasn't going to pull out the 94 Huskers from a trap door? Thanks for the lecture, appreciate it.
I did not. A little pissed about it, to be honest. I mean he kind of did at that press conference when he got hired, but still not good enough! He's getting awefuly repetitive. Bro did you know Frost wasn't going to pull out the 94 Huskers from a trap door?

I have no beef, I expect a good game. Anyone who hates ND is just fine in my book! Some of you all are awesome and just want to see the huskers succeed.. some of you all sound like ND fans
Yep, alot of people here think this 0-3 team is like one of the best CFB teams of all time. It really takes a special kind of person to run to another teams message board and talk down to them. But hey, your team does have one more win than ours, so there's that.Any time ... I hope we manage to defend the tommie Frazier pitch to Phillips on Saturday ...
I never said that Nebraska was good, just that Purdue is bad, which they really are and your 107 RPI shows that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, our RPI is lower than yours, I get that. We aren't a good football team either, but you are really bad too. If we lose to a bad, bad Purdue team, it's not a good sign for the rest of the season.I wouldn’t be so fast to talk so arrogantly. Another 2 thumbs up for the guy who continues to be thorough and well versed.I have no desire to argue semantics with you.
