With the new transfer rules, I think you will see alot of this. Got to wonder if we lose anyone in the next week or so.
What is the new transfer rule and yes I would guess we will see a few. I could be wrong but have a feeling Lindsey may not be long for this team.

Sorry, the new redshirt rule. I think with players being able to play 4 games and RS, we will now see alot of mid year transfers, after players have played three or four games and aren't happy with where they stand, they will just jet and take their RS season. It's already happened quite a bit around CFB.

Reading thread titles on RSS we had a potential star upset running back not show up to practice today.

McCleskey transferring from OSU because he feels he wasn't getting the ball enough. Not sure you want a "me first" type of player on your squad. He had 50 catches last year (3rd on team) and was the 2nd leading receiver this season.

Of course it is the student-athlete's decision, but man there are lots of 'Me' guys over 'We' guys more than ever now.

Players have more power and options now, don't blame them one bit for taking advantage of both.

I definitely understand your angle and I don't blame them either, but personally IMO I love being part of a team. But most importantly, I know my role and these players need to be told what their role will be, the truth and not sugar-coated crap.

I think a lot of kids think they can just snap their fingers and magically rely on their talent to make it to the NFL because of how good they are as told by their parents and superiors.
If it means sacrificing playing time or sacrificing a customer to let a co-worker take on a potential sale, I'll do that for the betterment of the business.

And now Clemson's 18 game former starter at QB Kelly Bryant decided to transfer after the first four games after a freshman QB was named the starter this week. I'm not entirely sure if the four game rule is good or bad, but it definitely has some repercussions.

On one hand, teams are left in really tough situations with sometimes one quality QB on the roster, but teams also get to give younger guys real-game experience without burning a redshirt and/or keeping players around in case of injury late in the season without burning their shirt.

On the other hand, if a player wants to leave a school, shouldn't that player have the right to do that? No matter how misguided, shouldn't a player have a say in where he wants to spend years and preparing himself for the rest of his life? Yes. From a team's perspective, it sucks. And we may say that the player is selfish, etc. but that player should have the right to make that call, even if it's the wrong one.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but if a player transfers during the season and is still able to red shirt not playing over the 4 games would that make them eligible the following season at the new school? Would this season count as there year sitting out at the new school?

I think that is too simplistic. I don't know your lot in life, but the ultra successful guys I know, don't want to be role players and won't give up a customer or client to make someone else feel better.

NFL dreams stuff is something that happens, but most of the guys are just looking for a place where they can be on the field. At the collegiate level, the guys that want to be role players are typically guys who grew up dreaming of a chance to play at Nebraska or fringe guys that didn't have big time offers, not 4 star guys that came to Nebraska looking to be a starter.

It's one thing to transfer during the offseason but to do it during the season is flat out wrong.

If it's within the rulez, then it's right, for the kid, if that's what he wants. I'd advise mine against it, I don't like it, but who the F am I to tell somebody what they should do? You have options, you use 'em. Makes them normal.

That's fair. I know exactly what you are talking about ultra successful Type-A guys; their way or the highway. And 9 out of 10 times I will side with the guy who wants to transfer to get a chance to play. It's just crazy to think that even though a player may be committed and signed to a coach or program, they will still be getting recruited 4 games into a season. That, to me, will be wild as hell.

What about the TEAM aspect, though?

I think us losing Gebbia the week of the Akron hurts us more than any one of us care to admit.

Of course losing Gebbia hurt, a lot, I don't think any reasonable fan would disagree with you on that. It freaking sucked. But you're suggesting a kid set aside his personal aspirations to start at the highest level and play CFB, for the team? Good luck with that one. Not saying it doesn't happen, but these days, that just isn't realistic.

If they decide to transfer, that should count against their remaining eligibility. I don't think this rule was ever meant to allow someone to play 4 games then transfer when they didn't get their way without any repercussions. This should be a warning to the ncaa that making transfer rules easier may not be such a good idea.

Can these kids transfer to new schools after classes have already started? If not, are they on the hook for the tuition for this semester?
