I think Urban Meyer will be fired, but UM will play dumb and act like he did not know he was fired, thus tOSU will allow him to coach, since he said he did not know he was fired.RollingLaugh

I kinda am going back and forth.... sometimes I think he skates with a suspension but sometimes I think that OSU will want to move on from the scandal. it won't go away.. especially all the gameday signs. I do think, however, that if he does get fired.. it will NOT be "for cause" and they will have to pay out a big portion of his buyout.

tOSU has a couple BIG hurdles to pass before they could fire Urb. Procedure/policy states that IF he reported the domestic abuse to his superior that he should take no further action. That is a truck load of burden that the university has to clear to fire with cause. If they fire without cause, they are on the hook for 8mil a year which I cannot see happening, especially with his success.

#2 is if they fire him with/ or without cause, the fans and donors will be lighting torches due to his winning. If he had the record of Maryland's programs, he would have been fired already. They will lose a lot of money, more, if they get rid of him, than if they keep him. Money drives this decision in all cases.
Did the OSU fans ‘light torches’ after Tressel was fired? That’s a legit question that I don’t remember. But point being, if there is cause, I don’t think the fans would act any differently than they did when JT was fired, as he also was a NC winning coach.

At this point, IF Urban reported it, as has been reported and as he was supposed to, and the AD didn't do anything with it, then the AD is gone. This is the same AD that when the Tressel/tattoo stuff was happening was quoted as saying, "I'm not concerned about having to fire Jim Tressel, I'm concerned about Jim Tressel firing me..." With the wrestling issue, this issue, and the tattoo issue years ago, Smith will be gone.

If UM keeps his job, then he'll have to spend the rest of his career answering why he kept an alleged domestic abuser on his staff for years, at two different coaching stops, despite the fact that he could have fired him at any moment and had pretty much the pick of whoever he wanted to replace him.

I think he will have to answer this question no matter what happens or where he goes

Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.

Maybe I am naive, but I don't think you schedule a meeting 2 days out to fire someone. In today's world there will be a leak and the news will be out before then.

With that said, Meyer may resign, forced or otherwise, but if he resigns, he is going to get paid.

From what I can recall at the time, Buckeye fans were generally happy with Tressel but few lit torches for him. When Tattoogate went down, it had been nine years since he won his NC. He was also ultra conservative and getting up there in age. Oregon is flashing different uniforms every week and he's quietly wearing a sweater vest on the sideline. His seat wasn't hot but there were grumblings from a spoiled fan base. (Sound familiar?)

By that time, their fans had taken his consistency for granted and wanted more from their offense and recruiting program... and those lucky SOBs got it. Even as the scandal unfolded, it was no secret that tOSU would pursue Urban and he would likely reciprocate. I'm friends with a big Buckeye fan and gave him a lot of **** for tOSU emerging from a "scandal" with a coaching upgrade. Their fans ultimately looked at Tattoogate as a blessing when they landed Urb.

As a consolation prize, at least NU got a win over interim HC Fickell and Joe "14 Gauge" Bauserman while that mess was sorting itself out.

Sentenced to 20 hours of community service, and one eight hour sensitivity training class. Both postponed to a later date.

Fully reinstated. Championship-winning coaches don't grow on trees.

Nothing except maybe a suspension. If things were that bad or they found something serious, they would have already fired him. This is just a waiting game to play out the press and wait for other stories to get to the top of the news cycle.

Apparently there was a closed door meeting today where they were verbally reporting their findings. Freedom of Info Act doesnt apply to verbal reports. The official meeting is Wednesday.

I’m indifferent about Meyer getting fired. I feel like most that want him fired simply want to see OSU fall. Screw that. I want OSU to be competing for national championships. And then I want Frost to go beat them. Not saying I think Frost will for sure win titles but ultimately that’s the goal and OSU falling off after firing Meyer ultimately doesn’t change where we want to be.

I think I heard last week that the time line was to hopefully have the investigation done by the end of the week. Then it would take a day or two to get report written and reviewed. Then they would report to the university leadership who then would share it with regents which upon that time decide what action to take.

So yes, I think Wednesday is pretty plausible and on schedule.

C'mon. When the day comes that a Frost team beats tOSU, we're not going to give a crap about who was coaching them. If Meyer's tacit approval or lack of action did indeed empower a wife-beating sociopath, then no one should lose a wink of sleep if he gets canned.

Exactly. Any day we beat the bucknuts is cause for celebration. They are 4* and 5* deep at every position except kicker.

If the investigation is complete, they would have had some sort of preliminary finding meeting with university leadership. No one is in the dark in this thing. If there was a smoking gun, and they could fire Meyer with cause, there is no need for a the extra days. If there isn’t a smoking gun but there is reasonable evidence to fire without cause, they could be negotiating a buyout. Or there is nothing going to happen so they are figuring out how to spin it positively and get Smith to fall on the sword.

To repeat my initial assessment, Urb is going nowhere. gene Smith will be the sacrificial lamb but Urb survives.

Not sure I agree with that. I, for one, have issues with a guy that has a wife-beating butt nugget on his staff not once, but twice. It speaks volumes about UM as a person. There are actually things to care about outside of playing them in a game.

The excuse of plausible deniability doesn't work when things are done at the stadium or occurs with large numbers of players. If things are done at the stadium like filming a porn, buying 2k worth of sex toys it shows a lack of institutional control over the people you hire. UM was in charge of hiring assistants and signing players, he is therefore directly responsible for their behavior at the stadium during work hours. Things that happen on recruiting trips and in lockers rooms also fall to the coach. Things that happen in private at coach and player homes is much more difficult. Urban will be fired if the report from the weekend is true about the sex toys and white house behavior, if the decision is based off of Smith's incidents with his wife only, I think he keeps his job.

See that's true too. The severity of the crime here is worse, though it doesn't explicitly violate NCAA rules. And more comes out about that guy every day it seems like. He was a real nutbag and piece of **** to his wife. And UM knew about it the whoooole time.

Remember, there has, at the very least, been a Title 9 violation, plus a lot of spinning and cover-up.
Fondling little boys wasnt explicity breaking the rules either yet PSU was sanctioned. Before they got unsactioned due to good behavior or some BS.

Depends on where the investigation goes and what they actually investigate. Will it be the domestic abuse only or all of the other things.

Understand what you are saying. Just saying what the anticipated timeline was and it seems pretty close to what they predicted. It appears as if Wednesday is going to be Dday unless something new has developed today.

He stays, and the outcry isn't going to be as large as everyone thinks.
The outcry was as bad as it was ever going to get two or three weeks ago when this first came out and Meyer was put on administrative leave. Putting him on leave gave outsiders and the people who hate OSU and Meyer a chance to pounce on the opportunity to get him fired. That's why no matter what decision is made, public opinion will be a 100x quieter than when this first came out.

lack of institutional control like Tressel. Lying to your boss is really bad but not being able to control the people you hire, especially with what has happened with Sandusky, with Maryland, and Michigan State really should be a death sentence(firing). Hiring practices in major college football are shady at best, with the foremost reason for hiring a guy being loyalty. When loyalty is the number one attribute of an assistant coach then weird stuff can happen. And assistants often know stuff about the head coach that others may not know. So it goes both ways.

I'm betting he isn't going anywhere. OSU remembers Luke Fickell's brief time as head coach after they fired Tressel, and they aren't going to go through that again.

I'm pretty sure that the fact-finding commission that tOSU has deployed to get to the bottom of all this is headed up by Stan Gable and Miss Betty Childs.
Next thing you know we’ll have bush. But, on the bright side, Booger has been combing the high schools all day.

Sounds about right. Things have been too quiet, I would have expected a little drip drip drip of negatives about UM if they were going to can him.
