I am not a huge fan of the State of Alabama either. But the gulf coast down by Mobile is beautiful, and there are large forested areas with excellent fishing, hunting, etc....

To return to the OP... I can see why someone who is not a native Nebraskan might prefer it to Nebraska.

Lived in Mobile and I can agree.. if you’ve ever been to the Tuscaloosa/Birmingham area it’s quite beautiful in its own right.. rolling hills and Forrest as far as your eyes can see.

My Frost swipe was more of a swipe on the Dingle's "unity of purpose" comments than Frost leaving UCF. Frost was coming home. Welton has no ties to the state or the program. He may never get an opportunity this opportunity again. Alabama>Nebraska right now.
You take a swipe at my comment??? I'm shocked. He's gone. Good riddance. I have low tolerance for guys who don't really want to be here.

Not that Alabama needs much help hurting us with recuiting as they pretty much get who they want. But I wonder if they may go after some of our early evaluation targets that they may not of otherwise went after based on his knowledge of our recruits.

In 1988 I was hired as an account rep for a company in Lincoln called Metromail (now defunct). Within three months of being at that job I was offered the same position at a rival company called Equifax in New Jersey. Twice the salary, better benefits, housing allowance, bigger company with greater potential for advancement and so on. I took that job in a heartbeat and didn't look back.

It happens. And it does not always imply a lack of character.

This.

When hiring I always felt the biggest vulnerability to losing a hire was in the first six months because the employee resume has been on the street and some companies don't move so fast or a recruiter has a new order to fill with a fresh resume.

With all due respect, besides alumni, why would anyone have any favoritism to a place, besides prestige/cash? You think Walters just wants to coach at Nebraska?

Patience ladies and gentlemen. This sort of thing happens and we should expect turnover at times. Mr. Frost will reload. Excited to see who will replace Welton. Keep the faith!

That doesn't seem fair. There are lots of reasons to leave a current job, it doesn't have to be just "more money" and/or "going home"

Trying to tell people what is or is not an acceptable reason to take a different job isn't for you to decide...it is for that person to decide.

What if I got offered a job that was less money AND not in my home town but it was a job to bang porn stars all day?

Nobody wants to bang porn stars all day.
Not even once a day.

You shouldn't be going all willy nilly and putting it in porn stars.
When I was a DJ at a strip club, we had a cover girl from Club "headlining".
I agreed to let her come home with me because she was going to Wichita the next day.
I could not get that girl to leave.
She was buying me shoes.
And she didn't smell too good.
Porn stars are all right to look at, it's another story when they buy you shoes and won't leave.

If Alabama wants him that tells me Frost is good at finding quality people for the job. IF he leaves, it should give us confidence that he will find another great replacement.. idk why people are so butt hurt about this.

Off-season. Some need something to make a big deal out of something even though this type of position is easily replaceable.

I think he will, but, kids are not kept in a vacuum. People find out about them in dozens of ways. That's why the kids get multiple offers.

But, doesn't bama run a different offense and their player fit wouldn't be the same, but defense is another animal.

I said she didn't smell too good.
I didn't say she smelled bad.
Big difference.

good vs bad? I guess if you don't smell good, you could smell neutral or bad.

so, I guess she smelled neutral, not good, but not bad. I get you. Yeah, there would be a big difference between neutral and bad. Like in the Blues Brothers movie in the restaurant when the rich guy at the next table from Jake and Elwood said. "I mean, they smell BAD."

im fine hiring coaches/staff other people want to hire vs. what we have seen in the past 20 years.
not many have moved on to bigger and better places. what ohio? nfl oline coach? ysu? osu cheerleader? none terrible gigs, but...
im sure there are other candidates who will line up for a shot to be here.

Let's see... a chance for a job with a much, much better football program, with a soon to be hall of fame coach, with better facilities, better tradition, and probably offered more money, in a part of the country that doesn't get winter? No brainer....

1. a chance for a job with a much, much better football program... For the time being. In 1998 would you say "much, much" better football program? How long is Saban going to be there, because once he is gone this comment is False

2. with a soon to be hall of fame coach... This is definitely a big draw, but it is not something I would seek out after taking another position with the hottest coach in the country for only 3 months.

3. with better facilities, better tradition... This is 100% opinion, and I can't say either is better than the other. All I can say that Alabama has had a better run in the last 15 years, but that has nothing to do with facilities and tradition

4. probably offered more money, in a part of the country that doesn't get winter... Who's to say we can't match the money? Not everyone likes "No Winter" some people prefer the 4 seasons. I am definitely not one of them, but there are plenty of people that like the 4 seasons. Lastly with this logic he should probably go to San Diego State if they offer him more money, because they have way better weather.

There is one thing that stands out in this thread. None of us are Welton, and none of us know what he is looking for. So the "no brainer" comment is in the eyes of the beholder.

Who cares....it was an odd fit anyways. Frost will hire someone new and we will not miss a beat.
Exactly. People must be desperate for something to talk about to make that big of a deal about this. When I saw this thread yesterday, I thought "who is Welton?" I'd hare to think what people would be saying if we were losing a coach-not just the player personnel guy.

It is not an opinion that Alabama is a better program right now. Doesn’t mean it will always be, but with how Alabama creates bigger names out of staff, it is a no brainer at this point.

People can assume it is a no brainer all they want. Why, because that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. Just for the record, poster "Harry Caray" basically said the same type a comment about Armon Gates and Florida. It was more along the lines of "Gates would be an idiot to leave Florida for Nebraska", but worded in a more polite way, he meant it would be a "No Brainer" to stay at Florida...

We all saw how that turned out. So in my opinion there is no such thing as a "No Brainer" decision!

Edit: Here is the direct quote "Leaving Florida for the sinking Tim Miles ship would be one of the worst career decisions I've ever seen."

The difference that I can see is that there was smoke around Gates hire at Florida and the school having buyer's remorse. Specifically about it not being a fit and other coaches not happy about them naming him Assoc Head Coach. So there is at least the possibility that he was "forced" to move on, similar to how Pelini handled Watson.

Half the people on here didn't know who Welton was or what he did, let alone if there was any bad blood.
