So the really cool aspect is that we have to wait until 5/30 to find out if we're screwed. Are either of them graduating, i.e. eligible to graduate transfer? I was hopeful all the main players would return to win one for the Gipper! Is that not a thing anymore?

Reading between the lines, this means there is not a zero % chance they return to NU, but almost zero.

I fully expect to hear that Roby is transferring next.

Is timing on this announcement coincidental of Miles' extension?
If so a real slap in his face
Pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point. 'hang around until I know I'm safe than you can split' With the B1G trending upward next year and us without our top 2 players I have a real hard time seeing how 18-19 isn't Miles' last.

Unless they are graduating and can be immediately eligible as a graduate transfer, I doubt NU will lose either of them to another program. They would have to wait about 18 months to get on the court again, and the clock is already ticking on their opportunity to get paid to play.

I could maybe see them leaving to play overseas or in the developmental league, but that's a possibility for any college player who's on the fringes of the NBA draft.

People in this thread are working hard to frame this as an indictment of Miles. It isn’t. “Entering” the draft to get a pro evaluation is a good move for anyone with aspirations of playing in the league. It means very little regarding their presence in Lincoln next year.

There are reasons to be critical of Tim Miles (Personally, I don’t think he can coach offense effectively and it means he needs his star players to successfully play hero ball in order to win games). But there’s nothing to complain about here.

This is where I am as well. I will never gain entry into the Tim Miles Fan Club and you won’t find me singing his praises for NOT finishing 13th in a 14-team league. But college basketball is now much more like baseball. Players are going to explore their options any time they can- it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re unhappy with the NU program or its coach.

Miles should have been fired last year, but its just as well with the chaos that followed in the AD office, etc. He did enough for another year I guess, but he has no margin for error left. Produce next year or bye-bye
I'm calling it now, after Copeland and Palmer officially leave when we are getting blown out at home by Northwestern, people will be clamoring, 'give the guy a break his two best players left him! you have to give him time to get some recruits!'

Anybody remember Ryan Anderson from the late 2000's? He also declared for the draft. It's foolish not too.

When was the last time we legitimately had 2 guys declare who had any shot of being drafted? Personally I don't think Copeland has a realistic chance of being drafted but at least he's close. Get the evaluation and see where you're at. Personally IF they've graduated, they should try to at least start a Masters degree program.

Something about your posting history lately makes me think you need to change your sig pic. Judas might be more appropriate. Maybe Thomas as in doubting Thomas.

Yeah I don't blame Copeland and especially Palmer for testing the waters - why wouldn't they? If they do leave, it could get ugly for the Husker next season. But I'll save that discussion until the deadline for pulling out of the draft passes.

Neither have hired agents. Doesnt bode well for our prospects next year.
I've been saying all along that both would go. Hope I'm wrong. I think it's just an age thing with the belief that their NBA stock won't get any better than it is now. If overseas is their ticket and the NBA isn't in their immediate cards, well just as well go pro, make some cash and try the NBA a year or two later.

Relax, everyone. Breathe. This is a business move. They have not hired agents. They want to see where they stand and know what part of their game the scouts believe they lack. It is a smart move in the way the system is organized. They will be back, with focus on how to improve.

Judas had a cheap buyout and a very short contract. Must have been really bad for recruiting.

IF they've graduated, more power to them. IF they haven't graduated, they would be fools to not finish their degrees. That piece of paper is MUCH more valuable than a year in the G league.

True, but I think they would be thinking overseas where the money would be better. Get started earning six figures or close to it depending on where they go. A few kids actually come back and play some NBA ball like Anthony Tolliver.

It would be dumb for them not to do it. All it means is they're not idiots and they want to find out where they stand. There's nothing to read into here, they haven't signed agents, kids do this every year. I believe you can only do it once before you're out of eligibility and still return to school (could be wrong though) and both will have exhausted theirs after next year. There are many reasons to be concerned about the state of the program but this is not one of them. Turning down a free evaluation for your dream job with no consequences would make no sense.

Isn't it sad though that 2 players make all the difference between MAYBE being successful or being a bottom feeder in the conference
