If Martinez wins the top job or the backup, he will not RS. The competition for this spot will be fierce over the next couple of years. AM, Vedral, TG and POB. It appears the staff will look to recruit a strong QB in the next cycle as well.
Someone is going to transfer, probably either TG or POB.

Correct. A Freshman’s ability, coachability, potential, position, depth at the position, competition, etc are all factors to take into account in redshirt decisions. Team chemistry, player maturity, long and short term goals of the player and the team are also considerations, in addition to future recruit perceptions. I don’t think it is normally as simple as saying player X is a top 100 recruit and he doesn’t want to redshirt, so he won’t, as some on here have indicated. I think it is a much more individualized decision. And since there is a fair amount of subjectivity involved in many of these factors, I don’t think it is unreasonable for people to question whether a redshirt/nonredshirt decision was or is appropriate.

Yeah and great job;
- Dabo Swinney on Tee Higgins (#2 WR)
- Urban Myer on Trevon Grims (#4 WR)
- Jimbo Fisher on DJ Matthews (#5 WR)
- Nick Saban on DeVonta Smith (#6 WR)
- Clay Helton on Joseph Lewis (#7 WR)

You should add

Donovan Peoples Jones to your list. (#1 WR)
Jerry Jeudy (#3)

They didn't have good years either. All of their stats really came in garbage time of awful games. Matter of fact none of the top 10 recruited WRs from the 2017 class had a good season. That's normal for WR. IMO the hardest transition from HS to College occur at WR. One doesn't normally see a TFR WR who blew up. All the top 10 guys from last year did about the same. The only one who had an amazing year (that one can make a case for) is DeVonta Smith since he caught the game winning TD in the Nat Champ. IMO that would be worth burning a RS.

But all top WR want to see the field in year 1. Then they learn how hard it is. Lindsey is going to be just fine in a few years and not RS him is just the price that occurs when landing top 10 WRs.

I tend to agree he will benefit, however, he didn't show me much in 2017 and consider it a wasted redshirt opportunity, thanks again Riley! ...

I think ALL the players will benefit from Scott and Company. Riley was mailing it in. A paycheck collector. I am betting we see a difference as soon as the Spring Game. I think you will see the whole program more organized. Practices will have focus, Weight training and workouts will be designed to get the best out of the players and I think every player will know exactly where they stand and what they need to do to be a productive contributing member of the team.

The obvious answer would be in the description of "upper classman" who obviously wouldn't be around in his 5th year. But I think you already knew that and just wanted to argue.

Well the argue point maybe true. But my comment was more about my theory on redshirting and who/ why you redshirt.
