Any rumblings from players

There is much more accountability with the players now. Guys like David Knevel can no longer go through the motions. And yes, they are working much harder on the weights than in the Riley regime.
To be fair, didn't he have a nagging foot injury?

Is it just me, or does it seem information about winter conditioning is WAY more hush-hush than in years past? If so, either the players were asked to keep a lid on it, they don't like it so don't say much about it, or are too tired to tweet.

Don't know for sure if the staff is trying to keep a lid on it or not, but I think you are starting to see coaches tell kids to put their damn phone away and stay off social media. These phones and social media are like crack for kids. It is such a distraction.

Wasn't Brock Pasteur from the '05 class rumored to have squatted 800lbs? I don't believe he ever saw the field.

I think the hype surrounding Pasteur had to do with having some crazy high bench max. Can't remember the exact number but I think it was supposedly 500+. And yeah, he never saw meaningful time (may not have played at all).

Serious question for anyone who might know. Are they okay with not going parallel for this circuit?

That was my first thought as well. Most coaches make you go parallel, put a bench behind you and at least touch your but to it like you are sitting down. I also thought they were going to do more lifts from the ground, anyone know about that?

Really looks like the kids are working hard and doing their best for HCSF. Keep up the good work!
As I have stated before, I had felt we should have given MR another year. With the information we have now regarding every aspect of the Football Program, Thank God we didn't.

Everything was in need of a change. And the timing was perfect for Scott Frost to come to Nebraska.
So we couldn't have come out better.

But the need for a change was so great, it is hard to get my arms around it. It is just like everything about the program was in total disarray, and collapsing. Everything.

MR has been a HC for many years in many venues. Many here will say he wasn't more that a mediocre HC. But still he was widely respected by alot of people in the game. With that in mind, it is hard for me to grasp just how little control on the Football Program and Players he had. His performance as HC was pathetic. The Head Football Coach at West Holt High School in Atkinson, Nebraska would have done better. And I mean that as a compliment to the Huskies Head Coach.

The state of the program at the end of last season was Shocking to me. And what we have heard since the Coaching Change is Unbelievably Bad.

Sorry, rehashing old stuff. Time to move on.

New Day, New Beginning. Getting Back to our Roots.

Can't wait to get to Spring Practice!

Despite what most would think... The parallel squat is an arbitrary standard developed by powerlifters for powerlifters. It's not necessarily best for everyone. But even if he was just doing overloaded quarter or half squats (which he wasn't), that would still be useful lift to develop the quads which Olympic powerlifters and body builders do use in their regimen.

Considering this is the head strength coach's Twitter account, I have to believe they are doing quarter squats purposely. It's a supplemental lift, and I have heard it called the "sprinter's squat" before. You can go much heavier and mimic the leg motion you have during a sprint or a jump.

I hear what you're saying .His depth looked good to me .When I mentioned the "Quarter Squat Gang" I'm referring to those dbag ego lifters you see on YouTube or Instagram .

I'm sure Duvall could teach all of us that still lift a great deal.

Talk is cheap and based on recent performance, we should have nothing to say...

I see it the other way around. I don't recall any where near the interest level of offseason strength training in the past years like this one if I'm being honest. Public comments indicate we need to improve greatly in the weight room and overall effort. I'm very confident the current coaches (and players) are trying for major improvement currently.

Well said! You are what your record says you are and if anything, those Huskers may have been worse. Time to shut up and work.

My experience tells me that most of the team is loving it too. Players may not realize it, but they crave discipline and true competitors love to be pushed-- especially if they can see gains. I've heard reports of guys who haven't improved their athleticism since they got here and others that made up excuses to miss workouts. But that is the minority of the kids-- trust me the majority is loving the change.

And there it is...the humblebrag. The athletes on the board have been quiet for far too long!

Huh? How is that a brag in any way? Because I pointed out the fact that I am damn near my full body weight plus what I was squatting under what was being repped there? Whatever. Carry on, dude. Not a surprising post from you though.

Not sure if it was him, but I remember hearing a player then bragging about doing an 800+ lb leg press, but then couldn't squat 400 when he got in the weight room. I think Vrzal was talking about it last week.

Anyone remember hearing who that was or who they were talking about for sure?

No humble brag here, but an 800lb leg press isn't that impressive if you are someone that is reasonably strong and works legs on a regular basis.

If a person can Squat 405, they should probably be up around 1,200 on leg press . If someone is maxing out at 800 on leg press, they probably aren't getting anywhere near 300 on squat.

Agreed, I was just saying that I guess there was a former player bragging about 800+ (multiple...multiple reps, not max) and then could not get around like 400 even once. I think it was Vrzal that was talking about it last week. My bad, should have clarified.

Plus, I do not really use the press. For one, it tears up my lower back for some reason....and for another, I think it is worthless.

Agreed . I would never bad-mouth a player, but that is straight clown show if he was doing/saying that. I'm confident that every football lifting program incorporates squat over any form of the other machine.

Leg press (hip sled) is the classic ego-lift machine .It can put a lot more stress on the lower back than properly executed squats ever could . It's basically good for scaring the Invisible Lat Syndrome Gang or getting the haggardly soccer mom to look at you out of the corner of her eye.
