This Forbes magazine article goes into length about the unfairness of the P5 college playoffs.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/bdavid...s-an-expose-of-selfish-interest/#295aa42f4e1a
Just think. IF we still had the pre-BCS polling situation, UCF would have had a shot at least at a split title. I hated the BCS system. I hate the new playoff. IMO, the year end polls usually got it right and I liked the original bowl system. JMHO. It's ALL debatable no matter how you try to structure it. Oh and BTW,....I wish those damned kids would get off my lawn.

Being the devils advacate. Could have they been unbeaten in a Power 5 conference ?

Most believe not.

I'm being a DB. I can't figure out why Central Florida fans are using the Husker boards to sound off on why they didn't get into the playoffs. They have their own boards to push their agenda.

Agreed. Ive read their board but never posted. They ***** non stop about any husker post, whine for a ban, and even have a pinned thread bitching about how rotten NU fans are.

Their season is over. Frost is not their coach. They can claim a title all they want but they arent playing in the CFP NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY AT&T monday. They need to get over it and move on.

I think certain aspects of the author's suggestions are valid. There is a monopoly and I think expanding to 8 teams with conference champions having an automatic selection would be more legitimate, more representative, more appeasing to the teams not in the p5 (but not a perfect solution), and even more of a cash cow.

I would like to see more benefit for the players like the suggested injury insurance because these kids have to live with those for the rest of their lives and the money the coaches and ad's make is getting unbelievable and the kids take almost all of the risk.

I am a KC Royals fan and year after year I get so sick of the large market teams using their big bucks for the highest bid to buy free agents out from under the small market teams. The small market teams pay to develop players just to be out bid by the damn yankees. But, without the small market teams, there wouldn't be a real league and the few big market teams would end up only playing each other 50 times and be very boring. This eventually would kill baseball as we know it.

The NFL, on the other hand has structured so there is more parody and the chances for any team to be in the playoffs is much greater, thus creating more interest and generating more money.

The p5 and college football as a whole actually benefits from the g5 to fill 12 game schedules and should give the g5 more of an avenue to participate in the playoffs, if nothing else, to keep the national interest at a greater level. Don't kill the goose that
lays the golden eggs.

As an example of lost interest, I will not waste my time watching another sec conference championship. alabama should not even be in it. This cfp, along with any and all previous systems for selection, is biased and subjective. The FCS has a workable and, seemingly, much more legitimate system.

Same sh—, different a—holes picking teams. The playoffs have solved absolutely nothing. The BCS solved absolutely nothing. All we have now is a generic clusterf—- of stupid participation trophy bowl games, conf champs that mean less every year and the same silly drama we had before.

Now we just have a couple of elite a—holes with golden toilet paper picking teams. Before, at least we had all the sportswriters and coaches with some say.

But of those other teams...NONE of them went UNDEFEATED...and they still got in!

One had 2 losses, and didn't even Win their Division in their Conference, let alone their Conference Championship. And they still got in.

I believe UCF has a legitimate debate point here.

For 15 years I wanted a college football playoff. And now that it is here, I find myself completely uninterested in it. I haven't watched a semifinal or final yet.

Now maybe that is because Nebraska hasn't been involved, but I don't think so. For some reason the games seem less interesting to me.

Actually, according to the BCS system, UCF would have been 9th on selection sunday.

They had a chance to schedule big names away just like Boise but they prefer to whine and claim no one wants to play them. The reality is that no one wants a home and home as they do not fill their stadium.

They would have lost a minimum of two games with WI schedule. Memphis got beat by ISU , yes they were better but still not an upper echelon team

I agree. UCF got shafted. I hate the college football playoff. I never liked the idea. At least with the previous system, there was a computer element to it. Now it's nothing but a bureaucratic cluster. But, this is what we have and it isn't going away. You aren't going to like my next comment, though. I think it's time for the power conferences to break off and form their own league.

Short of going to 16+ teams in a playoff, this system was never going to be fair to all 120+ teams in the league.

Not an upper echelon team...what does that make Auburn?

And did anyone actually Beat UCF?

So you and I and everyone else really don't Know of Sure do we?

And I haven't heard that much whining. I've heard more statements being made that whining.

As the Only Undefeated Team nationally, and having beaten the team, that beat both teams in the National Championship game, later in the season, UCF just declared themselves National Champions...just as Alabama has done on numerous occasions.

You don't have to recognize them as National Champions if don't want to. They Do want to recognized themselves as National Champions.

Seems OK to me.

I really do not have any grudge against UCF and thought they had a really good team this year. They can do what they want to. However the discussion is the same every time a G5 team has a great season " Why are they not treated as equal" the answer is very simple they do not play as tough a schedule as teams in P5 conference. It is one thing to beat a team in a bowl game it is quite another to have to play P5 teams every week. Injuries mount, any number of things happen and you can be beat almost any week.

UCF is just like Boise State was - whining about the unfairness of it all while at the same time they do not go out of their way to play top P5 teams on the road.

In the last 4 years UCF has played Missouri, Penn State, South Carolina, Michigan, Stanford, and Maryland on the road. Problem is schedules are made 6 years out and there is no guarantee a team will be good 6 years from now. Turns out Maryland was trash this year. Don’t know how that’s UCF’s fault. They did beat them like a drum though.

If Scott Frost wasn’t the coach at UCF, 99% of this board would be saying UCF played no one and didn’t deserve a spot in the CFP. Period.

Memphis played two middle of the road P5 teams and was 1-1, but since inflating their resume makes UCF look better, all of a sudden they are a juggernaut.

Don't you remember last year when Western Michigan was in the same situation and this board was blowing up. Oh yeah, me either.

see here is the problem - tell the whole friggin story

UCF is 2-7 against P5 teams in the last 4 years - 2 and 7 people, the only two wins were this year against Maryland ( who was horrible) and Auburn who was good - so one good win in the last 4 years against P5 teams and all the sudden they are now National Championship caliber - come on now lets be honest

2-0 this year. Yeah when they were 0-12 they weren’t beating P5. Amazing observation. Why not go back another year then and include UCF wins over Penn State, Rutgers, top 10 Louisville, top 10 Baylor and 3 point loss to #4 South Carolina. I didn’t realize past years mattered for the championship this year. I was merely pointing out that UCF has played away against P5 teams on a regular basis. Didn’t see people complaining when Auburn went 3-9 winless against the P5 and then were playing for a national championship the next year.

Because they play in a tougher conference dummy - you named the time period not me, dont cherry pick go back ten years I could care less you do not have a winning record against P5 teams.

It is pointless to discuss if you will not admit that the level of competition in a P5 conference is much tougher than a G5 conference

Never made the argument that it is as tough in the G5. Read what I said. I said in the past 4 years UCF played 6 P5 teams on the road out of conference. Make it 5 years and they played 7. Doesn’t matter. I wasn’t saying their conference schedule is “P5” (though the last 3 years American has been nearly on par with ACC in many metrics). Just responding to your post that they have to schedule non conference away games against P5 opponents which they do every year.

UCF would get physically beat up playing a P5 schedule and would go down to some of the bottom feeders on a particular Saturday, let alone lose to the big boys of the particular conference playing week in and week out.
