Wondering out loud because I didn't realize RB was an immediate need, as in, needing to bring in a juco player to fill a hole. I haven't been paying attention to the roster lately, so it could be an ignorant statement and question. Does anyone know the status of Tre Bryant and if going out and getting a juco RB is part of the answer for not knowing if he'll be able to be counted on? Or was that our best relationship and we went with it in order to take a decent RB prospect this cycle?

If Wilbon and Ozigbo are both seniors and Bradley a sophomore we would at minimum have 2 quality guys in 2019 to work with: Bradley would be a Junior and Bell a Junior or Senior depending on whether he sits out this upcoming season. Correct me if I'm wrong here

Bell's film reminds me of Bradley. Makes the right cuts, good balance. Doesn't blow your mind with his speed but breaks a lot of tackles and scores a lot of TDs because he knows how to use the defender's angle against him.

Can't imagine he sits out if healthy. NU has no proven #1 RB coming back. And if you watch Bell's film, most of his runs are inside zone and outside zone. He's going to come in already knowing the core concepts of this offense.

I waved my Wilbon flag as hard as I could since day one, but I'm off that train. He hasn't proven he can earn playing time or produce when he gets it. I'd like to see NU take another RB in this class.

We haven't had a good fast running back in a long time, maybe since Roy Helu or even Ahman Green. Newby had the speed but poor vision and balance. Abdullah and Burkhead were not speed guys. Bradley outran a few guys against Purdue but he saw very little playing time after that. With Greg Bell and Bradley he can have his speed guys and hopefully Tre Bryant can come back healthy and make an impact. Losing him so early this season was freaking yuge.

Would like to see Wilbon drop some weight and get faster.

Agree... I would think that Bell is probably the favorite to start next season. Wilbon is good if we are blocking decently... but he isn't a guy that will get his own yards. I doubt he (or Ozigbo) is what Frost is looking for because he doesn't have that top speed. Bryant doesn't have that top speed but I think he could fit into Frost's offense with his vision and balance.

Concern about lack of numbers is fine - but it sure seems like Frost is addressing skill positions on offense effectively. We need to fill in some of the other gaps for Feb. signing day. Yeah - we'll probably be under on count from what we could take but they will probably take a hard look at walkons and build up numbers there....not a perfect fix especially since we'll shed some players once they realize the days of Club Riley are over. Get in back in that weight room!!!

"IF" Bryant is still able to play football at least Frost will be more respectful regarding # of carries per game, but it's likely he's out of the question. I too supported Wilbon and still think he's serviceable considering 75% of his carries were doomed from the get-go with predictable play calling and poor blocking. Frost will find a way to utilize Ozigbo guaranteed. I bet we see a solid mix of them all with Bell & Bradley getting the nod.

Moses Bryant from Elkhorn South will likely get an offer if he can qualify academically.

Lets say Tre Bryant is done and gets a medical hardship...does that open up another scholarship?

So we have 10 signed, McGriff Friday will make 11. We have 2 others committed (Smith and Mapieu) but still haven't qualified academically. If they do that means we'll sign about 7-8 more in February.

Devine, Wilbon and Bradley will all be good in Frost's offense. Frost needs more than 3 scholarship backs though. He plays a bunch of guys on offense. Bell is a nice compliment to what we have and I expect him to play right away.

Maybe wishful thinking, but I look for this staff to work Mazour in to the offense. He had a quad strain early in the year, but assume he healed and was just not used.

Not sure that I ever heard about Mazour's injury. I think a few of us wondered about his situation since he did the typical "show-up-and-look-good-for-the-spring-game-but-not-play-in-the-fall" thing.

I'm seriously doubting these schools are looking at recruiting ratings to decide who is good and who isn't.

Fairly certain they're utilizing the services for one reason or another, if not multiple reasons. Most likely the biggest reason is to see who's still available.

Any OTs left out there yet that you think they might go after?

Utilizing them is one thing, deciding he's not worthy due to a star rating is another. I think they have their place to a coach, if I were one I'd use them but what they're looking for and what the fans are looking for is completely different.

Haven't looked. I need to get a better feel for coach Austin and if he likes guys then fits positions or if he's a position fit guy.
just looking at the list of OTs on Rivals, it doesn't look like there's many highly ranked guys left out there. A few in Florida, one in California, one in Georgia. Who knows if they will qualify.

I think it's a loose determination on how much they're utilized. Are you suggesting the staff is viewing film from guys that aren't ranked or 2-stars? I say no, and believe there's a reason for it, and that reason isn't because their film isn't available.

Do I think they care about a ranking? No, but they'd be silly not to check out the recruiting services for (their) top ranked players. It's the quickest way to find elite talent and go from there...

There's a 2 star small school OT from Tennessee that shows an offer from NU but I don't know it that was from Riley or Frost. It would seem more likely that it's from Frost but I don't know.

Winkel was offered by UCF then again by Nebraska after the staff change.

Correct, evaluated a 2* while at UCF then offered him after accepting the NU job.
If they thought he was athletic enough to play OT at UCF then I would think he would still work for NU. I have a suspicion that the small school he was at and maybe a lack of camps is why the kid is ranked so low. Certainly looks to have the frame.

But what about playing a kid at Tackle his entire career and then moving them to start him at guard the final two games of his career?

If we offer a local boy, I actually like Milton Sargbahs film way better. I know he’s a bit small, but I think he’d thrive in Frost’s offense.
