Key Sr. is changing his tune

I’m wondering if maybe they are starting to realize that maybe the market for JR isn’t as great as they thought.

He does appear to be a bit out of shape and did get caught smoking weed in his dorm as a freshman. There are many coaches that wouldn’t want this type of player on his team.

As much as the Johnsons love MR, maybe they are realizing it was his l0ose approach that contributed to Jr getting into a little trouble with the wacky weed. Not that it still isn't totally on Jr that he did it, but maybe he needs a more definitive leader. I think most kids that age do.

Doesn't matter either way to me. This thing is bigger than KJ/KJJ. Get the right guy in here PERIOD. If that happens to be Frost then cool. If Frost wants to accept KJJ back...cool. If not that's fine too.

I'm just so past someone from the outside seeming to THINK they have some sort of say in who we hire. Now I KNOW KJJ didn't say as much but the fact that he mentioned if we fire Riley his son is gone kinda "feels" like that.

I like KJ as a player. So far his son hasn't really impressed me much. So as far as I'm concerned KJJ and his son are non factors until whoever our new coach is decided. Even then I don't care one way or another.

If he gets back on the team I hope it’s because the new staff believes he will contribute and be an asset to the team not because his dad thinks the new coach is cool.

This needs to be a coach decision not a dad decision especially since dad threatened to pull him permanently if Riley wasn’t retained. What’s next, I’m pulling him if he doesn’t start?

Coaches dictate the rules not parents.

Geez, you guys, we really have lost our way from the "Osborne Philosphy" - lets hope Scott Frost has not. If Dr. Tom thought KJJ had lost his way and he could help KJSr. grow him into a man, he would. I think Scott will look at it in similar fashion. No player will run through walls for you until you care about them first. I say HCSF reaches out and offers his old teammate KJSr. a 2nd chance for his son, and it pays off.

Let's not kid ourselves: TO was all about helping turning boys into men, but they also had to be skilled enough to help the team. If SF thinks KJJ can help the Huskers, he will welcome him back and help him become a man. But if he doesn't think his skills are up to par, he shouldn't ask him back.

Dr. Tom continues to help thousands of boys turn into men to this day...and they aren't helping him win games anymore. I guess I'll continue to kid myself about his intentions.

Laughing about pot references. No players toked under Osborne, right? Oh wait, I lived across the street from half of the linebackers and DB's in the 1997-1998 teams, and there was enough smoke coming out of that house to choke Bob Marley.

Funny aside about that. A homeless dude was doing a little window peeping on the woman who lived in the apartment below mine. Some of the players saw him doing it, and...uh...discouraged him from doing it again. She was a single mom, generally on good terms with all the neighbors, and I guess they were looking out for her. Bad choice by window peeper guy, though, wherever he is now.

You missed the point. Of course he is very interested in helping kids whether they play sports are not. But in regards to who he helped through their affiliation with the Husker football team when he was coach, they had to have the skills necessary to also help the team on the field. SF will be and has to be the same way. The football program isn't a charity for disadvantaged and wayward youth.

Not hating on him. I wish him well wherever he ends up. He's just not really a good fit for Frost's offense, which is all about speed. He is not a big body either - in fact, he's nothing like his dad physically.

Lets be happy that Mike Riley handled his dismissal the way he did and that KJS still considers us and maybe our new coach as people he would want to help guide KJJ through college. If our new coach wants him, I see nothing but upside to having on the team. IF he succeeds it's in part because our structure helped him. If he fails, well he's already shown a lack of judgement so I doubt we get the blame. We can ALWAYS use a big bodied receiver. I don't care what offense we're running.

KJJ is not a big-bodied receiver (he's not his dad). He's listed at 6-1, 195 and that's being generous. Mcquitty is listed at 6-0, 195, and looks much bigger than him side-to-side.

McQuitty is taller than he's listed at. You do realize that pic of KJJ was when he was ill. Supposedly he dropped 20-30 lbs. He easily has the frame to be a 6 to 6-1 225 lb WR when it's all said and done. That's a big body. McQuitty is going to be a beast IMO and matchup nightmare for most DBs.

That's why you commit to the school, not the man. If you really don't want to be in Lincoln, Nebraska for five years, then don't commit to play for the Huskers, regardless of who is coaching. Having to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules would totally suck, and should only be used as an absolute last resort.
