He came out seemingly sounding defensive and uncomfortable. Very different than calm Mike.

He's a good guy and it sucks to see it not work for him. But it's best for him to move on at the end of the season. He should have never been offered in the first place. Not sure why he took the Nebraska job.. Did he expect this to be Oregon State? 500 won't do it here.

He's in charge of a $500million dollar program and failing - it doesnt matter if he's nice

if you are bad at your job you lose it

After Riley is asked to part ways with Nebraska, the ONE THING that CANNOT do is hire another coach with the same pedigree. If we do that we may as well just stick with him.

Frost or not, we have to go young after this regime finishes its work in Lincoln.

Can't blame Riley for taking the Nebraska job. He was on thin ice at Oregon State, getting pressure to at least fire some assistants, if not being fired himself. The NU job came out of nowhere and must have felt like winning the lottery. Our first clue to trouble should have been his hiring the very guys he was getting pressure to fire at Oregon State. He was out of his league at Nebraska. It resulted in him making desperate moves in firing his buddies, burning bridges in the process, and giving a DC nearly $1 million a year only to see his defense get boat-raced repeatedly.

The whole think is a complete cluster-f**k, courtesy of Shawn Eichorst. Unless Riley was nearly broke and needed the money, he will certainly regret coming to Nebraska.

Mark Pelini was 40 when they hired him.

I Feel bad for him too. He’s a decent human being. But we lack the intensity and sense of purpose that, for example, Urban Meyer brings to OSU. He is demanding, detail oriented and holds his team accountable. We need some (maybe a lot) of that. I think that would, at least, end the embarrassing blowouts.
Accountability has been an issue...from players skipping practice in year one w/o missing PT, to hiring a mentor of young men with multiple OWIs, to zero discipline for our guys caught with lettuce this summer, to in sound play. Lack of accountability seem pretty systemic

I want Riley back for 2018, because I want NO ONE to ever claim he simply needed more time. If this team has so much talent, I want to see him coach it. He just doesn't get to simply waltz out of Lincoln in a few days with a huge ******* check.

Obviously you haven't been watching any games this year. Let me recap it for you:

Arky State: Seconds from losing
Oregon: Gave up 42 pts by the half
N. Illini: Loss at home
Illinois: Only decent game.
Wisky: Obliterated in the 4th qtr.
Ohio State: No words

Our on-the-field performance has shown no signs of things getting better, therefore, it's time for Mike to go.

Who and the hell is going to claim that.. Judge the product on the field with you're eyes.

I've been watching all the games. Fans are still bitching about NU still paying Pelini's buyout. If they fire Riley this year, NU will be paying THREE head coaches in 2018. It's completely unfair to stick a new head coach with the 2018 schedule.

2018 schedule is brutal which is why its a great time to have a new coach in his honeymoon season

Money is no issue.
Your last ditch effort to save Riley holds no water.

Yes, it's a brutal schedule. But keeping MR for that would simply be suicide.

I think most fans would be quite willing to cut a little slack for his 1st year. Just look how many apologists there is right here for MR's 3rd year?

The stadium will be half-empty next year if Riley returns. It's not happening.

We have $25 million in Big Ten money coming in. Money is not an issue.

The 2018 team will consist of players that CHOSE to play for Riley. I don't want to hear anyone say these players wouldn't play hard for their new coach in 2018 because of some "Riley virus."

42 point home loss is the worst loss in NU history I believe. Having your name as coach that should not feel really good
