I have a 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie and I love it. I knew I didn’t want a Chevy bc my dad has one and I didn’t care for his. I had a friend with an F150 and while I didn’t mind it, it did nothing spectacular. Both of their interiors (and the Tundra) seemed too “plastic-y”. The Ram blew me away with its updated interior, ride comfort, technology, stereo, and reclining rear seats for my teenage boys on road trips.

The Tundra by all accounts is a solid truck, I just didn’t want the poor fuel economy and lack of updates for about 10 years when I was in the market.

Two years later I still love the Ram.

I had to ditch my 14 Silverado in 17 for an F150 because we needed room for car seats what ever you get, check the legroom in the back. There was a good 8-12" more in the f150 vs the Silverado.

That's one reason I got the Tundra. The backseat legroom is ridiculous.

I think all the manufacturers have bigger cabins now.

Really liking my Ram Bighorn

Bought it the previous spring. Best buying experience thanks to Covid. They brought it to me to drive. Appraised my trade at the office. Haggled on phone and by text. Same BS, but you aren't at the dealership for hours being pressured. Much easier to deal. Even brought paperwork to me.

Kept my F150 for 20 years. Loved it but couldn't see paying the equivalent of a small house for a new one. Ram was reasonable and drives well. Really spacious, good handling. No issues a year and a half in.

As a Govt employee we drive every model except Toyota. Dodges are nice new but are POS’s when they get a few miles in them.

F150 with the 3.5L V6. No regrets. Power to spare. Nice interior. Drives great. Can be tuned to easily get more power/torque/mileage.

Any interest in midsize vs the full size? Nissan updated, after 10 years or so it seems, their frontier this year. I've had one of them and an Xterrra that shares most of the components and they're pretty bulletproof, have a good pulling but thirsty V-6, and are easier to park etc. than my Ram 1500, which was also a great truck.

A friend that delivers vehicles for a local Ford dealership is saying the new F150s have quality problems. May want to wait til the current chip and supply issues resolve themselves before getting too far.

I just got a new Ram Laramie and I love it. I’ve ridden in and driven the other competitors (Tundra, F150, Silverado) and the Rams all had much nicer interiors. F150 and Chevy hasn’t changed on the inside in forever and just wasn’t comfortable to me. The Rams are very comfortable and smooth riding. Very spacious and the new front end design looks much better in my opinion. Ram is also the highest rated truck and has been for several years now. They’ve come a long way. I would go with Toyota as previously mentioned by others for longevity but I just didn’t like the ride and the body style of those. Mine already had weather mats and a bed cover as well so that helped sweeten the deal for me to make the choice. I get around 20mpg in town. Not bad.

My vote is the F-150 with the Ecoboost. I recently just got a new one. I have always had GM until this truck. My GMC Sierra was having tech issues with the main screen/back up camera and the Transmission was slipping with just 45,000 miles. I feel the technology is way more advanced In the Ford. That new screen Ford put in them rivals the RAM too.

Are you sure it doesn't have to do with a mexican food slinging ex? Taco has many more potential meanings there.

Nope. I used to be a read only type of guy with this board. Then one day I was making an account and paying my truck note online at the same time. While trying to come up with a name I switched tabs and said 17 it.

Funny enough I was with her at the exact time I made the account.

I've had 4 Chevys, a Ram Big Horn and currently in my 1st F150 Crew 5.0L. It's 3 yrs old with 166k miles. As mentioned, back seat has plenty of room and it's holding up well. I'll get another Ford next go round.

Friend had rear end go out sub 50k on a 3 year old one. Traded for a new one. Not sure why. I’ve never personally known anyone who didn’t have trouble out of some aspect of the Ram drivetrain

Had an 18 GMC Sierra z71… transmission gave me probs at 33k miles. Traded it for 2019 tundra. Liked it but drove it a year and was offered 6 grand more than I paid for it so sold it. Now I have a 2020 F250 with 6.7 turbo diesel. I LOVE IT!!

I owned a 2015 Chevrolet CC Z71 for 4 years. Put 85,000 on it and traded it in on a 2020 GMC AT4. The only issues I had on the Chevy were that the U-joints went bad at about 45,000 miles. They were covered under the powertrain warranty and were replaced for free.

The AT4 crew cab with the 6.2L V8 is the best and most fun to drive truck that I’ve ever owned. It has a lot more power and pep than the 2015 Z71.

I’ve always owned GM trucks and haven’t had any major issues with them.

I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 z71. Bought it used in 2009 with 7000 plus miles. It has about 195k now.

Replaced the front hubs on each side at around 120k. Does use a little oil now, but doesn’t smoke and it’s no spots on concrete. Don’t have any idea where it goes.

Gonna try and get 225k out of it.

Good for you. I had a company 2012 Silverado with the 4.8 and it was the weakest engine on earth. It was nerve racking pull out in front of traffic on those 70 mph FM's in Texas. Maybe it was the gear ratio or that particular engine was just a dog, but I could hardly drive it into a stiff wind. Mileage sucked too. They discontinued it the next year.

You are burning it. Rings, valve cover gasket, pcv valve, who knows. But it's going out the tailpipe if it's not dripping on the ground.

If your looking room and comfort, F150
Is the only option. Like being in a dang Cadillac. I’m on my 2nd lariat and have loved them both. Quiet, comfort, and the cab is set up for driver convenience. Don’t stray away

My company truck is a Chevy Silverado… the last 3 including the one I have now spent a lot of time in the shop, mostly transmission/software issues. My company is looking to switch to Ford because of all of the issues we have had with Chevy’s.

This all day long. I had a car salesman even tell me that it would be wise to postpone any truck purchase until mid 2022 if possible

Honda Ridgeline in mid size is perfect

Many do not consider this a real truck but my 2019 is a dream to drive. Towing capacity is limited to 6,000 pounds so pulling your tractor on a trailer is not advisable. The ride is unbeatable. Anyone looking for something other than a Big A truck will be pleasantly surprised by the Ridgeline. As for the Big A trucks, my lean is to the F150. Silverados have become the most unreliable brand. Dodge resale values are worse than the others. On the other hand, in mid size the Tacoma and Ridgeline have stellar resale value.

...instead of vaccines, the Air Raid, Rogers, what constitutes a downed punt, etc.

I'm looking for a crew cab pickup. While I may haul stuff, I don't have any huge need for towing capabilities. Just a good around town and road trip truck. Room for a kid and two dogs max.

I don't really have brand loyalty here. My father has an 07 F150 that feels like the hood and bed sit up a little too high (lines of sight) when I drive it. That could just be a difference from the last truck I drove regularly, and they're all made that way now. I liked my 99 Dodge Ram 1500 whose transmission finally died on me a few years ago.

I kicked the can down the road and bought a used Outback, that I named the Lesbian Mobile...which became the Dyke after changing its oil.

Fortunately, I'm in a better situation than I've ever been (changed jobs, got married {dual income!}, etc) and am finally tired of 3rd hand vehicles.

Let's hear what you got and what you wish you had.

Thanks in advance. Or are we still using Go 17 yourself in advance?

2021 version of El Camino. My boss drives one and gets non stop ****. But it is nice inside and rides good. The lesbos love em too

Honda Ridgeline is not a pickup truck at all. Still, it’s a smooth ride and useful for what the majority of people who drive trucks actually do with those trucks. The exterior look isn’t good, but the interior is nice, it’s super comfortable, and it’s reliable. It’s today’s 4 door El Camino. If you really have no need for a heavy duty body on frame truck, give the Honda a close look. If you do want a full size truck, a Ford has the best combination of ride, room, features, and decent reliability. Tundra has best reliability but lacking modern features. RAM has best ride by far but reliability is a ? mark. Chevy/GMC has great features but is plagued by transmission and electrical gremlins.

False. My 2020 Ram Laramie is waay more comfortable than my friend’s F-150. Coil springs on the rear axle instead of leaf springs makes for a much smoother ride. And the 2020 Ram was named “Luxury Vehicle of the Year” by Cars.com. First truck to ever win that award. They really hit it out of the park with the new redesign.

My previous truck before my Ram was a 2006 Ridgeline. It was as you described. Great handling, comfortable ride, and reliable. But the cabin is significantly smaller in a midsize truck than the modern full-size trucks. And the interior was Honda functionality, but in no way luxury. Depends on what you are looking for. But I do miss easy parking in parking lots, lol.

Loved my 2015 Taco. Ended up getting a 2020 F150 for my next one for a lot more space and similar mileage. Odds are the taco will be on the road years after my f150 is retired.

I have a 2019 ram 1500 Laramie, it has been decent but not as great as some brag about. I farm out of my truck and spend most of my days on the farm or on rough country roads the 15 miles between our two places.

Back right window was loose in the track when I got it, with window rolled down one can grab the glass and just slide it up and down. I’ve told dealer about it a few times but never taken it in just for that, no more than I roll that window it’s not worth the time in the shop. Tried to get my dealer to install factory trailer break controller a few times and every time the parts needed are not available. At 38k miles the passenger exhaust manifold cracked and had to be replaced, the drivers side is now leaking at ~51k. I noticed a new sound from the front passenger side, like lower a arm bushing, yesterday. It will get on the rack this week.

Ride quality was great at first but continually gets less. More squeaks and pops in the body than I’m used to out of other brands. The tailgate isn’t holding up, can be a pain to open at times and then opens itself at others.

We have 5 tundras and 2 Tacoma’s on the farm and hands down they are the toughest truck. One Tacoma is a 1998 model and I am seriously considering buying a few of them this winter to put labor in. Parts are cheap and they are easy to work on.

Not a truck but we had two Chevrolet Traverses and had problems with both, one was a 2011 and next was 2014. I say this because every time I had to google issues with them I saw people talking about the same issues with Chevy trucks. Because of the absurd market right now we got out from under the last one and sold it for well above what it was worth. I don’t need a truck, so unless I’m buying a Jeep for fun or win the lottery and buy a big *** boat that I need to pull, we’re done with American brand vehicles. Spare me with where they’re all made or put together or whatever. That was an easily made definitive decision after the second traverse.

Wuuuut

Honda Ridgeline is not a pickup truck at all.

I own a Ridgeline and I can assure you it’s a pickup truck. Will It be the best choice for off-roading or towing massive cargo? No. But to say it’s not a pickup truck?? If you just want to help people move, load lawn equipment to go cut your grandma’s grass or tow something 5K or less, it’s awesome.

And it’s outstanding for road trips…. Gets good gas mileage, has an eco option to make mileage even better and has plenty of room for the average person. We drove from DFW to College Station last weekend and our friends were blown away with how comfortable it is. And the assisted cruise control is amazing!

It is smooth as hell, too. I think OP should look into the. It’s sporty, got a nice engine, AWD/4WD, more storage capacity than I’ve ever seen and it drives like a damn dream! Plus it has all the modern bells and whistles. The neatest thing to me is how you can route the speakers through the truck bed…. Pretty cool when you’re outside and wanna listen to something.

Also, the “trunk” in the bed is ingenious!

GM transmissions aren’t very reliable.

Maybe I've just had good luck, but I've racked up nearly 600,000 miles combined on two Silverados (2001 and 2011 models) without any tranny issues. I made sure the maintenance was performed at the specified 100,000-mile intervals, and never had an issue.

Knock the proverbial wood down.

All Chevy/GMC trucks use oil. Never seen one that didn't once that got over 100,000 miles. They used to have gas cap issues too that would drive you crazy but that seems to be fixed now.

Chevy/GMC has great features but is plagued by transmission and electrical gremlins.

As I posted earlier, I've owned two Silverados over the past 20 years, drove them for a combined 600,000 miles and never had an issue with the transmissions. Electrical issues? Hell, yes. A $45 A/C sensor cost me $645 to replace because it was buried so deep beneath the dashboard. Tire sensors fail. Power window issues. Headlights. Lots of nagging electrical stuff, but the engines and transmissions have been rock-solid with steady maintenance.
