Right now is not an ideal time to be buying a new truck. If you have the patience, I’d wait a few months and let all these chips come in and the lots are going to be flooded with them then, and there will be insane rebates.

And don’t take my word for it, that’s coming from a friend who owns a Ford dealership. He said that in 5-6 months he figures they will have more trucks than they know what to do with. There’s literally tens of thousands assembled and just waiting on chips.

If you go to buy a new one today you may very well have to order it and wait a couple months anyways. And you’ll have to pay sticker. Just my two cents..

As far as which truck to get, I’m partial to the Ford’s. No one does a truck interior as well as Ford. They’re nice. I love mine. The GMC Sierra Denali’s are super nice, too, but they’re expensive. The Ram’s are sneaky good trucks, too. But I’ve always heard they have poor resale value. You really can’t go wrong with any of the newer model crew cabs. Chevy, GMC, Ford or Ram. Especially given what you said your uses will be. I’d just get the one that looked the best to me, and you won’t be disappointed. But, again, trucks are INSANE right now.

As I posted earlier, I've owned two Silverados over the past 20 years, drove them for a combined 600,000 miles and never had an issue with the transmissions. Electrical issues? Hell, yes. A $45 A/C sensor cost me $645 to replace because it was buried so deep beneath the dashboard. Tire sensors fail. Power window issues. Headlights. Lots of nagging electrical stuff, but the engines and transmissions have been rock-solid with steady maintenance.

We're basically driving computers today. Any manufacturer that can't build a reliable motor & transmission in 2021 shouldn't be building trucks. But getting the electrical gremlins to stay away for 300,000 is a lot harder, and they can make your 100% mechanically sound truck useless when something goes wrong.

Weird how some manufacturers can't fix pervasive issues. GM taillights not working has been a thing for decades. Saw a late model Yukon just yesterday with one taillight out. Seems like their SUVs are notorious for not being able to keep taillights lit, among other electrical things. Dodge it will be drive train (rear end/transmission). Ford window regulators have sucked for a while now and pre-2015 you needed to hang an oil catch can off the PCV valves to prevent valve problems on Ecoboost. Nissan full size, just don't. In nearly all cases, it is more likely that a sensor will fail than the actual mechanics of the engine. Engines just mostly last forever if you change oil/oil filter/air filter regularly.

I always buy a month-month subscription to Consumer Reports while I'm considering new vehicles to vet reliability on I'm considering, then cancel as soon as I buy.

I own a Ridgeline and I can assure you it’s a pickup truck. Will It be the best choice for off-roading or towing massive cargo? No. But to say it’s not a pickup truck?? If you just want to help people move, load lawn equipment to go cut your grandma’s grass or tow something 5K or less, it’s awesome.

And it’s outstanding for road trips…. Gets good gas mileage, has an eco option to make mileage even better and has plenty of room for the average person. We drove from DFW to College Station last weekend and our friends were blown away with how comfortable it is. And the assisted cruise control is amazing!

It is smooth as hell, too. I think OP should look into the. It’s sporty, got a nice engine, AWD/4WD, more storage capacity than I’ve ever seen and it drives like a damn dream! Plus it has all the modern bells and whistles. The neatest thing to me is how you can route the speakers through the truck bed…. Pretty cool when you’re outside and wanna listen to something.

Also, the “trunk” in the bed is ingenious!


Agree with all of that. Love my Ridgeline.

A few months ago there were 1000s of Ford F Series trucks parked at Kentucky Speedway waiting on chips. I drove by the speedway last weekend and the parking lots are empty.

Toyota Tundra Crew Max is where it is at. I have owned mine since 2008, still going strong.
Ram, they look fantastic. Their engine is good. The entire truck will fall apart in about 50k miles. I bet you can drive around all day today and not see a single Dodge on the road that is 10 years old, and it still look good.

Behind the Tundra, I would probably say look at the new Ford F150 Lightnings. I believe this is the next truck I buy early next year. The regular F150s will be pretty nice too and would also be in my second choice pile.

Toyota Tundra - Don't look as nice as Ford or Chevy and probably has the 3rd worst interior behind Chevy and then Ford, but the dang truck operates the absolute best.
Ford - Less comfortable than Chevy, but the all electric has peaked my interest
Chevy/GMC - More comfortable than Ford. Transmissions and AC suck.
Nissan
And then even further down the list Ram.

I will remind everyone to read the reddit post on buying vehicles and how to send out the specs you want for dealerships to bid on. You will get a better price, you will negotiate all options you want prior to even stepping foot in the building. It takes probably 10 minutes to pick it up.
You don't waste their time. They don't waste yours. I did this with my wife's SUV and the price difference between Jackson and Birmingham was 8k on a new vehicle in Dec 2018.

2021 version of El Camino. My boss drives one and gets non stop ****. But it is nice inside and rides good. The lesbos loves em too

Like mopeds and fat women... everyone wants to ride one but nobody wants to be SEEN on one!

Bought my 2015XLT in 2018 with 41K mi. Now got 86K and worth more than it was then.

NASCAR dropped Kentucky Speedway from the schedule. The only money the Speedway has been making is charging Ford to park trucks in the empty lots. Looked like all the F-Series trucks there came from the Louisville, KY plant and were all Super Duty F250-550

Got a buddy whose F250 came in last month, after waiting since May. So maybe they are starting to move those - but I'd guess they are all sold before they hit the dealership.

Yep, I bought mine 3 years ago with 32K miles on it, and could make $5K profit TODAY despite it nearing 90K miles. That’s how crazy the truck market is, currently. The problem is I want a nice truck and I would have to replace it in this same market.
