Based on what Saban and Bryant JR are supposedly shelling out (per Rush Propst) why would anyone not go to Bama?
I think he’s referring to kids from Mississippi that go there never to be heard from again.
That’s what everyone has to shell out these days. It ain’t just Bama. But I’m sure they pay top dollar.
And it is a yearly contract
Now they can void easily with the new transfer rule if they don't work out! The rich get richer. BTW, you will have the Poly Annas on here that believe players go to Alabama because of their history and the desire to play for Saban. I guess it is nice to live in that fantasy land where everything is pure as the driven snow. The "pay for play" has been going on for years long before Saban arrived. Even Bear Bryant paid players through his boosters. Best thing to do when you get the response from someone that believes college football is still an amateur sport is to patronize them.

Those were never great players to begin with. Terry Grant wasn't an SEC RB. The DB guys were never that good either. Same with Lashley. Just because our State interweb guys say they're good means very little. I see Byron Young doing well. The OL did well. They just put a MS DL in the NFL. It's all over blown.
He can do the same thing here and actually be a part of something, rather than just being another in a long line. If you're good enough, the NFL will find you. There's nothing special about Alabama when it comes to the NFL.
Over blown is "Alabama will put me in the league". Players put themselves in the league. You're better off going where you can play. I guess if you're lazy and need to be pushed (but still talented), Saban is a good coach for you because he'll push you through that.
Yep, and apparently all payments funneled through Paul Bryant Jr.'s bank (per Propst). College sports is really disgusting at the high end when you actually know how the sausage gets made. Apparently Saban and Smart are really raising the price of poker in the SEC. This past signing class for Bama was the highest rated recruiting class for any school ever on record. If anyone thinks that a ton of 5 stars are all signing up to play behind a bunch of other previously signed 5 stars just for the love of all things Bama, think again.
I hate seeing MS kids go outside the state, but I've always felt like those kids in southwest part of the state probably have fewer ties to MSU and Ole Miss. So I can't really blame him for taking the best offer. I'd expect an LSU fan to be more disappointed than us - you'd think they would want Orgeron to lock down a top DL recruit that close to Baton Rouge.
Exactly. There’s also people that really think $180k is all it took to get Cam Newton to Auburn. That’s just what he got on the front end.
Some truth to that but AL has the best coaching, program, and facilities available. Go watch the draft and count the guys they'll have drafted. If you don't think that's a benefit, I can't help you. It's perfectly fine to be jealous and hate them.

HA HA HA HA! The Polly Anna speaks! A 4 or 5 star can play at Jackson State and make it to the NFL easy. You are discounting the ability of NFL scouts to find talent. It's ok to be a closet Alabama fan but if you post on this board, I can't help you!
He doesn't have a handler. AL offered him in the 8th grade. It' was AL or LSU no matter what. He wanted out of MS.
They get more guys drafted because they have better players from the beginning.
He wanted out of MS so bad that he was going 60 miles across the state line to the most similar states in the union. Good thinking there, Jaheim.
If I wanted out of MS I think I'd be looking at Florida, Texas or Oregon.
This got me thinking about how many guys we have in the NFL vs. our opponents. Let's ignore Alabama and LSU for now. I was surprised to realize the gap between State vs. Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Kentucky is greater than the gap between Texas A&M and Auburn vs. State. That was in 2020. Not sure how teams will stack up in 2021.
Exactly, and that doesn't even take into account a bunch of VERY talented guys that could have gotten the attention of NFL scouts at other places but can't get on the field to show anything at Alabama because of the talent glut.

You are right Russ. Those 5 star athletes would make it to the NFL if they played at Slippery Rock University. I always laugh when a bummer fan tells me, "We get more players into the NFL than the other schools in the SEC!" If they didn't then it would be a travesty with the talent they are racking in.
Or Hawaii! If it weren't for the bag men in college sports I always thought Miami, Hawaii, San Diego State, USC, and other great locales would mop up in sports.

NFL scouts can find them anywhere. That's true. However, I think players will get better coaching, nutrition, strength training, development, etc at any SEC school than they would at any SWAC school. For many, that is the difference in making an NFL roster as a rookie or getting cut in training camp.
Miami without money isn't that great. Plus the school itself is probably a culture shock for a lot of college athletes, just being a small private school. And beyond that, lots of 18 year olds want to be within driving distance of home. But it is somewhat surprising that there aren't more universities on the southeastern coasts like there are in California. Seems like there should be strong satellite campuses at least all over the gulf coast. It's a shame it's USM with a gulfcoast campus, because that's the most beautiful campus in Mississippi. Pensacola has a university, can't remember which one, but you'd think there'd be a UF or FSU satellite there.
I guess college reputation is important enough, and I guess the college as consumption and lifestyle new enough, that there really hasn't been time for colleges to adjust to it and the places that new campuses would kill it would be relatively expensive.
I think he's saying that he presumably didn't have a "handler" or "street agent" in 8th grade and since Bama was already on him then, it's unlikely one was able to insert himself later on. Not sure that's a good assumption on either part. If he was good enough for Bama to take notice in 8th grade, there would have been somebody already looking to make money off of him. And even if they hadn't already gotten claws into him, I'm not sure already getting interest from Bama would stop one from coming along. I suspect all that matters is whether a recruit has family to keep those types away.
