2nd vaccine dose scheduling question

So I was supposed to get my 2nd dose last Thursday in Tupelo and it was cancelled. They rescheduled me for this coming Sunday, which pisses me off because it puts me right on the edge of the 5 weeks. Anyway my mom is getting her second shot Thursday and I am the one taking her. I will be there in the car at the vaccine site a mere 3 days before my appointment.

I called the vaccine number and when they finally called me back I pointed out these facts. To say the woman was unhelpful would be an understatement. She would not engage with me at all and would only give a canned response of “There are no second dose appointments available Thursday in Lee County. I say I understand but I don’t see why I can’t just get it while I’m there. I live 70 miles away and it’s supposed to be raining Sunday and I’m worried it will be cancelled and then I will miss the 5 weeks. 15 solid seconds of silence and the same damn canned response which caused me to lose it.

So does anybody know if they are flexible at all at these sites? If I explain it to them would I have a chance of getting it or is it hopeless?

Check the CDC guidelines. It looks to be six weeks now.

I have been wondering about this, since my four week Moderna second dose was due on 2/15. Then with the weather, it was rescheduled first to 2/18, then to 2/20, and now it is 2/26. That is barely within the maximum 6 week period. Sure hope it doesn't get pushed back again.

In today's cell phone video cancel culture world, it's hard to find "flexible" interactions any more. One recorded deviation from protocol can cost someone their job. I don't blame the grunts for sticking absolutely by the book.

It's not like a grocery store where there may be a few extra boxes of Frosted Flakes in the back. Based on storage requirements, they likely have enough does for the appointments scheduled for each day. You rolling up three days early would likely take a dose away from someone else that day.

I think your best option is to ask when you show up with your mom (maybe someone missed an appointment earlier in the day or something) and be respectful if they tell you there isn't a dose available for you.

i think they are changing the policy and guidance as the go along to cover their butts. i got mine at 30 days. wasn't as potent as the one my wife got at 21. we both got the Pfizer. at first they said 21 days and 28 days and within few days of that. every time their is a supply issue, an appointment issue, or weather delay issue, their guidance starts saying, well it doesn't matter as long as you get it.

Which is why I tried calling in advance so they could have my dose ready. They didn’t give a single shot last week, I’m fairly confident my dose is on the premises. The problem is there is nobody to talk to. A robot would have helped me better than the girl I talked to and there is no way to talk to anybody at the site. When I got my first dose they stressed repeatedly I had to get my 2nd dose in 3 - 5 weeks but then when I try to make sure that happens you can’t even talk to anybody. Worse I had scheduled work commitments next week when I thought I would be fully vaccinated and was supposed to leave town.

Yeah, it's not like it is an exact science. There is not going to be a significant difference if you get the second dose a little past the recommended time period.

Have you considered they possibly gave her the second one first?

We were told early on that if you're at the vaccine site at the end of the day and IF (big if) they had some no-shows during the day that they would used the shots on someone who had waited. Of course it has to be the right type if you've had your first. We were told this by a guardsman in Philadelphia but I have no idea of it's validity at this point.

I don't know what the max time period is between doses, and I'm not sure "they" do either. I got my first one this morning, and my second one is scheduled for March 16. That's 3 weeks and they confirmed my appointment when I was there. I just slipped in - was called week befor last for today's appointment, and then last week they stopped taking new appointmens beause of shipping delays.

Question about the vaccine. Is the second vaccine the same as the first or is a part A and a part B?

They're the same, and the second dose is actually a "booster" (according to articles I've read).

He changes his mind a lot. Hard to say if he's being cautious or political.

Yeah he should really have more concrete knowledge on a virus that no one knew about 15 months ago & is capable of killing 500,000+ Americans.

Nevertheless - don't you admit that he's changed what he says many times?
How dare he change what he says about a brand new virus that new data is coming in on daily. He should have made up his mind long ago and stuck with it. **************************

I mean, thank goodness people can change what they think when they get new information. Otherwise, Joe Moorhead would have just finished his third season. Or Rick Ray would be in his ninth season here. Or Sylvester Croom would have just finished his 17th (?, I suck at math).

so what's the point of being vaccinated? since they are pushing it so much? at this point to date we have vacinated 2x as many people in the US as have actually had the virus. Basically in 2 months compared to a year of cases. What is the goal post? they seem to move every couple of months. i think this guy just likes the power and attention he has received from all of this. before this no one knew or cared who he was. i believe we need to be cautious. i also think people should get the vaccine if they want to, but the way they act, they want people to just live the same way we did in 2020 for the next few years which i believe is really unnecessary as more people become vaccinated. but what are realistic goalposts? not everyone gets a flue vaccine or other vaccines. at what point are they happy with the vaccine numbers and the case numbers that they say ok back to normal? i don't think they know and constantly move the goal posts. when the vaccine is readily available to the full public for a month or two? is that when they are happy enough to start opening open stadiums fully open schools and restaurants? you aren't going to eliminate the numbers completely. you aren't going to vaccinate everyone. just not realistic. by the end of next month we will probably have tripled or quadrupled the amount vaccinated to known total cases.
