How much does it cost?
I have been waiting to see the cost for some time now. I use a cell tower service company through AT&T but it goes out 2 or 3 times a month.
$499 hardware
$50 shipping
$38.43 tax
$99/mo service
It's more cost prohibitive than I was hoping early on... No idea how it compares to others. Was hoping for a reasonable alternative for deer camp since my AT&T was sketchy there and CSPIRE has been worse, although they lie and claim 2 bars of LTE while ATT at least accurately projected their service situation. Guess it's on to Verizon next.
If that is just internet, thats insane costs....our power association just ran the lines to our neighborhood over the last 3 weeks....goes live in a month.....1Gig for $75 a month, no contracts, no rental on routers, etc...
this is first ive heard of starlink and the link doesn't tell me anything about it
Wth is it? I want to know what I am preordering
Changing the law to allow rural electric co-ops to do this is the best thing the MS legislature has done for rural folks in quite a while. They deserve to be applauded for this. The start up cost is steep but if you have no alternatives then it is what the market bears. I really like what the rural electric associations are doing in several areas of Mississippi. They are offering fiber internet to their customers. Tallahatchie Valley Electric is building out their system and said it would take about 5 years to complete: they are one year in. 300 mb is 59.99 and 1 Gig is 79.99. More than reasonable and several coops are doing this as well. Its good for rural residents to finally have options.
Starlink and its future competitors will be a game changer for rural internet service.
Not as much as the electric coops in Mississippi offering fiber. That basically kills Satellite internet in Mississippi. Good riddance.

If Elon's system ever become publicly traded, I am buying it. The amount of money he is going to make is going to be astronomical off of this system.
That sucks, but you are not powerless. It’s great if your power association does it. The one up here has no plans at the moment.

Sounds like you are between a rock and a hard place.Yes and I know most of them.

They’re great people and all their employees are great but things like that are just not on the radar right now.
I work for a co-op and the company that is handling our install gave us a guarantee that if at any time we didn't want it, they would buy it from us. Keep in mind our board tends to be a bit tight, but they approved phase two of our project six months before they were due to. We visited another power company in Missouri before we started that funds 80% of their electric operations cost from their internet subsidiary.
Curious as to why your folks won't pull the trigger.

Can the satellite receiver be moved around (or RVing, Deer Camp, etc), or does it have to remain in the original location it was set up in?
