not surprised but hate that Mitchell is leaving. I think he would have a shot if he were consistent, but I don’t think he’s good enough for anybody to put up with his inconsistency while he figures it out. I think another year with leach’s offense could have been a difference.

I think GE could eventually land on an NFL team as an O line backup. He has great size and wingspan but needs better technique and footwork. I really hoped he would return. He would have benefited and would have been a great leader for our team.

Only way Eiland is getting in an NFL stadium is if they need to use him as a turnstile at the entrance

I don’t understand these guys that go pro knowing that there chances are slim to none to make a team. Could come back but no. Insane

NEVER forget that Ovirus Mitchell single-handedly cost us a win against Florida in Merlinz first year, the first year of disastrous SloJo experiment. He will never be forgiven for that. I've never seen a receiver so incredibly inconsistent at the collegiate level. Never. I don't know whose roster he will ever make, but it will be shocking if he actually gets drafted.

I really do hope he is successful over the rest of his life, but I don't see it playing football.

We're often not dealing with the sharpest tools in the shed with these things. Both of those guys really need to come back and have a good season if they want a real shot at the NFL.

I just assume “going pro” is another way of saying I’m gonna give the NFL my best shot, but otherwise I’m done with football.

They’re both 5th year guys (I think) so I assume they have degrees. They’ve stuck with MSU through a lot in their careers so I can respect them for that.

I think it’s just a matter of not appreciating things u til they’re gone. When you’re twenty-three, spending an extra year in school to play football when you’re probably not going to go pro regardless and putting off making money for another year probably seems like a long time. And on top of that, a break from 5am workouts that they’ve been doing for five years now probably doesn’t Sound like the worst thing.

When they’re 35 and have been working for a while, they’ll probably look back and say one more year would have been great. Hell, they may decide another year of football would have been great after their first week at an entry level 9-5.

By year 5, I was ready to get out of college too. Many aren't, but I was broke and just ready for something different.

We do we have to tear down so many things MSU in public forums? Just wish them well in public and start a private text group to tear them down.

They aren’t making good decisions. If that hurts their feelings, they really need more time to learn some valuable life lessons.

How are they “not making good decisions”? They would each be in Year 6 of their college football careers if they came back next year. If they aren’t capable of making the pros now, they are better off to go ahead and try to make money some other way. They damn sure aren’t going to get any better than they are now after 5 damn years.

That’s complete BS.

First of all if they are in year 6, they could get a free masters degree (maybe they have one and I don’t know).

Second if they had really good years next year it could get them drafted higher which is probably worth more than a year of work at $35 to $55k.

They can get a “free Masters degree” in 5 years if that’s something either wants to do, especially if they started taking classes in Summer of 2016 (which pretty much every football signee does unless there are clearinghouse issues).

In terms of pro potential, non-QB’s (and most QB’s, even) top out as a player in year 2 or 3 of actually playing. Osirus isn’t going to come back in Year 6 and suddenly be 0.2 sec faster in the 40 and magically transform into Odell Beckham Jr. Eiland isn’t going to come back in Year 6 and all the sudden start pancaking first round DE’s from Alabama. That **** absolutely does not happen. They are both perhaps good enough to make an NFL scout team at worst, maybe even be late round picks if they put up some good numbers at the pro days. And that’s all they are ever going to be.

Nobody with a brain thinks they are going to be equivalent to OBJ. But they could go from undrafted free agents to 3rd rounders with good seasons next year.

And how many football players do you know? Graduating in 5 years with a bachelors is abt the norm for a lot of regular college students. Getting a masters in 5 years puts you way ahead of the curve and football players aren’t typically ahead of the curve REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU WANT TO BELIEVE.

Even making a practice squad pays 6 figures, fella with a level head could do that 5-6 years, give himself a little cushion then go out and put that degree and all the contacts you’ve made to work.

If you think either has a shot at being a 3rd rounder (or a 4th, 5th, or 6th rounder), I’m just going to agree to disagree. No chance. They are what they are. You don’t just have the light come on all the sudden in Year 6 (or even in Year 5 or Year 4). They are / were both occasionally decent but wildly inconsistent players without any outstanding measurables. They wouldn’t even still be here as 5th year guys if they were any better than that.

You are right that football players aren’t typically ahead of the curve academically, but that only works against your argument. If they are behind the curve, one more year isn’t going to be enough for that Masters anyway.

Regardless of all the above, these two guys know their own situation and aspirations. They are far more qualified to judge whether or not they made a “good decision” than you or I. They were at MSU for half a decade under 3 different head coaches, and both busted their asses the whole time when they each no doubt had both plenty of opportunity and plenty of excuses to either quit or go somewhere else. How about you just trust their judgment?
