In about 1963 baseball played in Columbus while Duty Noble was built in its current location. I was in the 4th grade and walked to Redbird Field after school and sat on the score board. I hung the number of runs up on the nails after each inning. Also attended football at Scott Field back to 1961 when we have the scoreboard with the circular clock with minute and second hand. Paul Davis was coach and then Charlie Shira after that.
All the food on campus went to hell when Aramark took over. I quit eating on campus at that point.
You're MSU OG if:
1. You camped out at the Hump before we beat LSU for the SEC Championship in 1991. Extra OG if you got one of the donuts that the newly hired Jackie Sherrill handed out to the students that morning.
5. The Landing and Allgoods were frequent destinations.
R.I.P., Jamie O'Hara. He wrote some great songs (including Grandpa) and passed away yesterday. Link.
You're a true OG if you ever sat close enough to Jack during b'ball games to smell the cigarette smoke and hear him cuss like a sailor about EVERYTHING during timeouts/commercial breaks. Good times, good times.
He would leave the broadcast area and walk out to the concourse that circles the Hump and go outside the Hump doors and smoke him a couple during the half.
1. You ever wore a Maroon is All That Matters tee
2. You remember when Rice was called 7 Floors of Whores
3. You went to Drinkin with Lincoln Penny Pitcher Night at Ricks on Wednesday, Cheer’s Dollar U Call It on Friday and Rick’s Dollar U Call it on Saturday (may have those backwards)
4. You remember when Cheers Dollar U call it was $5 cover and if you came between 5 & 6, you got 5 free drink tokens and you ate “supper” there off of the free appetizer bar, then stayed until the 12:30 “You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here” announcement.
5. Sonic had 33 cent burgers on Tuesdays(?). So you ordered 30 of them and ate them for all 3 meals for a few days.
6. The Great Wall was in the Union and she asked “ Youwantsauceonchicken?”
7. You camped out for SEC Championship Football tickets.
8. You screamed “Take Out ____, Put in _____. And those _____’s could be swapped from game to game with Morgan, Wyatt, Taite, Fant, etc.
9. You went to Brewski’s or Corky’s and didn’t buy enough whiskey to last you through the first half.
10. You had a hookup with Pedro at Mexico Tipico where $10 and one paid for pitcher of margaritas would wind up being a bottomless pitcher deal.
11. You skipped your afternoon classes because you got hammered at Tipico on their 99 cent lunch margaritas.
If you remember the baseball team taking the field to the theme from Top Gun (wish we still did that, actually).
You have an SEC championship ring with MSU on it.
Real OG's can complete this lyric and name this score...
"Well, they ran it and they threw it, and before anybody knew it. It was..."
You are OG if you never get disappointed with anything in life because pulling for MSU has taught you how to deal with disappointment.
You remember the song "Bulldog Blitz" being a radio favorite for a while Those were some dark days in radio.
I think it was actually “Let’s Win Something Today”You're MSU OG if:
1. You camped out at the Hump before we beat LSU for the SEC Championship in 1991. Extra OG if you got one of the donuts that the newly hired Jackie Sherrill handed out to the students that morning.
2. The names Al Rickey Edwards, Donald Ray King, and RJ McKenna ring a bell.
3. You heard Jack Cristil praise the offensive line for "performing yeoman duty along the forward wall."
4. You sat in the back row of a class in McCool Hall with Tony Watts, who wore sunglasses throughout each class.
5. The Landing and Allgoods were frequent destinations.
6. You voted for Daniel Boyd for student association president.
7. You can not only recite Hank Flick's pregame routine from the Hump in your best nasal twang, but you can also remember his post-game suggestion to "drive safely and defensively and without benefit of alcohol."
8. You know that Rickey Joe Redd is from Waxahachie, Texas.
9. You're still angry at the Jay Barker fumble that was ruled an incomplete pass in the 1994 Alabama game.
10. You or your dad has a "Win something today!" t-shirt.
Haven’t had a Danvers burger since it closed but it may have been one of the best burgers I’ve had. May be that it’s just because it’s been 23- 28 years since I’ve had one.Danvers
Or hear the crack of a wooden bat and think of Ted Milton !
Wasn’t that the first night game..If you remember the fight in the LFL the Ole Miss weekend of 1972.
