Saban is a good coach. Saban is the best ever at building a roster.
Are you suggesting saban couldn’t beat Clemson, Ohio state, Notre Dame 4 to 5 times out of 10 in a given year?
Convince me since he couldn't win in the NFL.
If Saban has better talent, he would win 90% of time... if he has equal talent, less than 50%.... if he has less talent 10%.... he is not a great coach, he hires great coaches.... he is a great recruiter. Are you suggesting saban couldn’t beat Clemson, Ohio state, Notre Dame 4 to 5 times out of 10 in a given year?

He couldn’t win, at State, without his own Compliance Department.Convince me since he couldn't win in the NFL.
I believe that about Bear Bryant but not Saban. Bryant was another breed of coach. What he did at Texas A&M was legendary. What Saban has done is thanks to boosters. Not sayin' Bear didn't have help from boosters at bama though.
With our current talent, no. Could he recruit it, sure.
No, he couldn’t recruit it. If he could, he would have won a title (or...maybe even just done better than 7-5 / 8-4) at Michigan State.
No you aren’t suggesting that or no he couldn’t win 4/5 of 10?
I hate agreeing with nimrod but geez man. All it takes is a little common sense to see how this process works. You're clueless. All these players are not out there going to the highest bidder only. Maybe a few here or there, but for the most part they are still choosing schools based on winning, NFL, etc.And this is so overplayed. All SEC schools put players in the NFL making great money depending on ability. Most players with no ties whatsoever to a school will go to the highest bidder. Particularly ones coming from poverty level families.
This. I was hoping, at this point, we'd get this type of bump with Leach, and I guess we have in a way, we did just sign the best QB and WR class in a long damn time.To me the big difference is now he has the reputation of being a big game coach that can win Natty's. He didn't have that reputation yet at Michigan State. Now his name alone carries a certain weight that he did not have to his advantage at Michigan State, so I don't think his work there is a fair comparison to what he would do at a non-traditional power if he tried now. Having said that, Saban will be at Bama until he finally retires and goes home.
Some of you throw "boosters" around like cheating is some magic pill to win. That's too simplistic. It's about total buy-in to the program. This is what the big recruiters have - big stadiums, sell-out crowds, towns and fanbases that live/breathe it. Sure you get a Johnny-Come-Lately like SMU or Ole Miss who are dumb and throw stupid money around but they get slapped. The Clemsons, Alabamas, Auburns, LSUs, Georgias have built huge buy-in over the years. Oregon is probably the newest of the bunch, but they've got Nike and 20 years of winning behind them. So there's a little sliding scale in there, but in general a big, rabid fanbase is the answer.I believe that about Bear Bryant but not Saban. Bryant was another breed of coach. What he did at Texas A&M was legendary. What Saban has done is thanks to boosters. Not sayin' Bear didn't have help from boosters at bama though.
For the few players who do get paid, yeah, all things are generally equal. The money is there from all programs. They aren't signing with schools because they got 15K more.Didn't say that. But you guys can't believe MSU is on the same pay scale as Bama and a handful of other top programs? All things being equal well of course selling a winning program is going to win out.
He went 9-2. If he was there another 5, he'd have probably gone 9-2 again (or 10-2, once the 12 game schedules started). So yeah, he was EXACTLY like Mullen. Highly doubtful he would have truly competed for a national championship beyond that level. He'd have lost a lot of talent, then built up again. He may have gotten slightly closer, similarly to if Mullen had stayed in 2018. I personally feel like he'd have done better by a game or two than 2014.He was at Michigan state for 5 years.
If he was there another 5, he would have had a shot at competing for a national title.
Got it. Alabama pays top dollar for every player and MSU doesn’t pay at all.
Dantonio is a damn good coach, yes. How he compares with Saban, we'll never know, he never took one of the 'have' coaching jobs.So you think Mark Dantonio is better overall than Nick Saban?
Interesting take I guess.
