Hell these folks in congress will never pass term limit legislation. Why in the world would they cut themselves out of controlling our wealth? They’ve got it made and want to keep it that way.
They are basically permanent division I football recruits. People constantly throwing money at them trying to sway their decisions.
What we need is a massive increase in the number of Congressmen. The House is supposed to be the voice of the People. We used to regularly increase its numbers after each census or territory expansion, but we have been stuck at 435 for over 100 years. In the 20s, the agricultural states feared losing their voice in the House and fought to cap the number of Representatives. The Senate is set up to address their concerns of having no voice. Let Congress expand.
Right now, the Congressman from Wyoming represents 600,000 people. A Congressman from LA represents over 1,000,000 people. This isn't fair at all. At the very least, we should have all Congressmen represent about 600,000 people, and increase the House to around 550.
But I don't think we should stop there. A congressman should not represent 600,000 people. That is too many. A Congressman should be a member of your community; someone accessible who has to directly answer to the common man. Many nations that are smaller than ours have well over 500 representatives in their equivalent to our Congress. The original intent was for a Congressman to represent 35,000 to 50,000 people.
I do not advocate for 10,000 Congressmen, but 1,000 should not be out of the question. I think around 1200 is the right number.
The expenses are manageable. Rather than construct a new meeting hall, they could all "work from home" and just rent a Convention Hall when they need to Congregate. They could even convene in various locations around the Country to even further bring the government back to the people.
