After he wins the NC this year I won't be surprised if he retires. A&M and Florida will probably be in the SEC championship next year. I see the winds of change coming to the SEC.

Whoever takes over for him whenever he retires will have a loaded roster. Think of Miami when Coker replaced Davis.

This thread is accurate, because I'm sure that the 17ing Ninja himself will not be able to hire a good coach at the top program in the country...

Saban isn’t retiring no time soon... when he had to quarantine when he had Covid, he said it made him realize how much he missed coaching.

Well, obviously he'll get a good coach. I don't think there is another saban out there though, so it will be a downgrade

When he does retire, our luck is Byrne is going to hire Chris Petersen, just to make sure we don't ever get too woolly about Leach's Air Raid taking out Bama.

Dabo and Urban Meyer probably are the list at this point. I don't think you can make much of an argument that both have not accomplished more at this point in their careers than Saban had by now. Saban was 55 when he was hired at Alabama. Dabo is 51 and Urban is 56. I'm not sure it would be much of a downgrade at this point... Especially if you plugged either into the machine that Saban built and gave them the cover Saban gets from the SEC office.

I guess Urban would be the bigger risk as he seems to keep torpedoing himself, but both have given Saban fits on the field and have built powerhouses themselves.

Doubt urban would come back. The only reason I think dabo would even consider it is bc he went to school there, but why jump off the gravy train path to the playoffs to a much more contested path? Oh, and following a legend is usually a bad career move

Dream on. People have been saying Saban’s leaving Alabama soon ever since his 2nd year there. It wasn’t happening then & it’s not happening now. I figure he’s got 5-8 more years in him. All at Alabama.

I think within the last month he said he would retire when he felt like he was a hindrance to Alabama. I don’t think he’ll go the paterno route and coach as a figurehead, but I think hell coach a good while longer barring a health issue. He doesn’t seem to be slowing down mentally or physically at this point.

Urban is not on the list. You must not realize the level of disdain that literally the entire Alabama fanbase has towards him. And even if that wasn’t the case, they’d be looking again in 3-4 years after hiring him and everybody knows that.

Disagree.

Saban will drop dead before he retires.

Coaching Alabama football is his life.

I don't see him retiring any time soon. He is so intense. He will coach until his 80s, get forced out when its obvious he doesn't have it anymore (his forced retirement will probably occur within days of Bama losing to State), and then he will be dead a few years later. An old and senile Nick Saban is still a better than 90% of the other coaches out there.

I wish Bama could be moved out of college football and forced to compete against the NFC East. That would make college football a lot more enjoyable.

A&M?

They're losing Mond & others. I think they'll be middle of the road.

I think Saban goes the Bear route. Coach until he basically can't physically do it anymore, retire, and die a few months later.

Well, doesn't seem that he has much of a life other than coarching, and maybe cutting back the trees and stuff in his yard and telling his daughter not to spend money on that damn dress, so wtf

Well, he might decide to do a full-time Aflac blue gig with the duck . . . . . .

Or LSU after Saban himself left.

I don’t envy the person who takes over after Saban. I wouldn’t do it, especially if he leaves on top, would never measure up. About the only hire they could make would be Dabo.

It won't matter who takes over. It will be like when he left LSU. His recruiting system is in place so the recruits will keep coming. Boosters will still be there.

Saban is a hell of a coach. He makes five and four stars better. He coaches them up, they get better or they are gone. What other coach does that? Look where Alabama was before Saban and where they are now. LsU is always top five in recruiting. See where they are now. Saban's coaching means something.
