Alabama fans hate Freddie Kitchens...I still remember some calling him "Fat Freddie" during the 1997 game when we beat them in Tuscaloosa on their Senior Day. On the whole fans base their opion on players based on their results and not their intentions...just like many Red Sox fans still sneer when saying the name "Bill Buckner".

Sorry

At least we don't break the rules "classy" m17er

Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

We had a player bust his butt and fall just short of making a professional goal. Not the time or place for 5th grade juvenile comments directed at him.

I'm not much worried about the rules in this situation.

Your issues are with Moorhead, not Stevens. Yes he was injury prone and had some issues detecting pressure, but he wasn't nearly as bad of a player as some give him flack for. Dak Prescott would've struggled in whatever the heck offense we were running the last two years.

And making fun of one of our own players for getting cut is a total ******* move, especially when from all indications Tommy is a good dude and a good teammate who really enjoyed his time at MSU.

He followed his former coach here and had no real ties other than an opportunity to start. He also had a tendency of turning being hurt into being injured so I will stand by my classless comments.

This is a bit surprising because there was an article about a week ago talking about him doing well but that there was a roster crunch at TE.

Speculation was that if the Saints tried to put him on the practice squad that Carolina would claim him. Be interesting to see where he ends up

Wow. What a douche you are. Being hurt/injured makes you classless?

Did you play football in the SEC? It ain't a walk in the park.

So reading isn't your strong suit I see. I never called anyone classless. But yeah, I think I counted 4 "injuries" that he bounced back from.

Bingo! I respect your right to base judgement about me on my stupid posts and crappy photos - nothing else. Am I white or African American? Old or Young? Able bodied or wheelchair bound? Christian or Shaman at the Temple of Satan? In the sports world it doesn't matter.

The same goes for players. If the player only manages crappy results - I am going to say that they are a crappy player. That player can hop a fense and beat up high school kids at a High School Football game or build houses for refugees in Haiti during the off-season (Ole Miss style) - in the sports world doesn't matter.

Separate player performance from off field actions...just like all the old posts about Jeffery Simmons on here.

His reading comprehension may have been poor, but your comments suck. There are a lot of guys that played for State You can go after. I don’t see Tommy as one of them.

I wish Tommy well. Moorhead is the main reason he didn’t do well at State. He didn’t really have a chance. I detest it when people who call themselves State fans disrespect former players. If he wore our uniform, regardless of the result we should still support him. There are some really sorry-*** “fans” in our midst.

Looks like we need to be distributing a lot of Midol here today. Tommy was a major disappointment and not really a Miss State guy in my view. I don't wish anything bad on him tho. But I sure won't get my panties in a wad defending him either

Sat what you will in private but a message board is no place to insult a former player, especially one whose only crime was playing for an awful head coach. Tommy has never bad mouthed MSU and deserves the same respect that a 4 year player at State should get.

I wish him the best until the day he gets on a Monday Night Football broadcast and gives Penn State as his college then all bets are off.

Old Bear Bryant used to tell his players the story about him playing a whole game against Tennessee with a broken leg. The purpose of the story was to challenge their toughness so they would play through pain and even injuries.

At MSU we have examples of Football players who played through injuries just as bad as Bear Bryant.

1. NICKOE WHITLEY -
One of our hardest hitting Secondary players in recent memory. Nickoe played almost his entire Senior year with a torn ACL. The dude just put a big brace on his knee and went out and played - it only came out after the Egg Bowl (remember him stripping Bo Wallace, fumbling into the endzone, and being recovered by Jamerson Love).

2. FLYOD "PORKCHOP" WOMMACK-
Massive yet quick footed - Porkchop was a leader and anchor of our Offensive Line. He played the majority of his Senior year with a broken leg - doctors inserted a metal rod into his leg and screwed it to his bone.

3. OMARR CONNER -
Talented athlete...started at QB but was bumped to WR. In 2005 before the Egg Bowl, Conner tore his groin muscle - muscle tore way from the pubis / pubic bone(worst combination of words in the English language "torn" and "groin"), recovery time was supposed to be several weeks. However, Conner desperately wanted to play in the Egg Bowl - so he had multiple procedures where doctors drew blood from his arm, spun the blood in a centrifuge to separate the platelets, the platelet rich blood was then put into a syringe and injected into his groin to speed healing time. Omarr Conner played in the 2005 Egg Bowl catching 4 passes for 69 yards - granted the real hero of the game was RB Jerious Norwood.

Key Note: In 2005 a Bowl Game was not a possibility and it was not Conner's Senior year - and he was not going to he the starting QB that day.

Now let me address Tommy Stevens and his injury riddled 2019 Senior year at MSU. I honestly think that this new nation wide coach's policy on keeping injuries super secret may actually be detrimental to players. I don't know the magnitude of Tommy's injuries in 2019 and I am not going to speculate on them. Therefore, I can only work with the information that I do have access to . He had a big time arm and good mobility for a guy his size, however rough starts would sometimes end his day early (got pulled versus Kansas State and only played the 1st quarter against Auburn) and he missed 4 games in 2019 - Kentucky, LSU, Texas A&M, and the Egg Bowl versus Ole Miss.

And most of my negative view comes from missing that Egg Bowl. Going into that game a "winning season" 6th win was on the line, so was a chance at a Bowl Game, also it was his Senior Day his last time to play in front of a home crowd at Scott Field.

I can't help but to compare current and past players - and I know this might seem unfair to some. Football is different now - players transfer at the drop of a hat, players sit out a season to focus on the NFL Draft or for COVID-19 reasons, coaches leave before Bowl Games.

This is the "new normal" and it really makes me miss the original normal.

Tommy will always be an enigma to me. I had high hopes for him and still don't know exactly why he didn't work out better. I still wish him the best going forward.

Well I'm not the one labeling him Garrett Give it Away or anything. It was a poor attempt.

Also Stevens has been signed to the practice squad, so all of this was pointless.

Oh, I’m not a Stevens hater and I agree this was a dumbass thread to start. I just thought that comparison wasn’t fair.

Had to look it up, but practice squad players are paid $8400/week, or $142,800 for the normal 17 week NFL season. That's a lot more than any fresh-out graduate in any major, unless your name is Chelsea Clinton or equivalent. So he's doing OK.

How about something meaningful. Such as .... how many wins as a starter vs SEC or P5 or even overall wins did Tommy have in his college career? How many for Schader (in one year)? Or Keytoan, Fitz, ..... even Mike Henig?

Don't really hate on Tommy. He just want as good as many wanted him to be. He also didn't have the it factor to play through being hurt. Several of his injuries were self inflicted from not getting rid of the balm. Football and especially sec football is a tough mans sport and you have to play through a lot of injury. Dak came in with a screwed in shoulder to help us win the egg bowl. I didn't see Tommy doing that. He was brought in to be moorheads boy and he along with moorhead failed. Unfortunately he will always be tied to that disaster. Wished him the best in the nfl but he was not exactly tough nor that great of a qb. Neither of those things will get you far in the nfl, but at least he tried and adapted. Maybe he will make a practice squad elsewhere.
